Wait a second...is that entire forum a parody or is that...real..?

I'm going to assume it is, because that is the only way that it will make any sense. I mean the initial post is lol worthy on so many different levels, then the replies compound it like lols within lols, and finally it all collapses upon itself when you start looking at the "medal" captions next to peoples names. My mind is blown.

In other news, the game has been good and getting better. The demon hunter has been okay to start with, though could be tough to play in harder difficulty. Looking forward to monk and wizard.

Hrm, was in long enough to create one character and accept a few friend requests and then a time out error.

this is what I get for making up an excuse to leave work early

The internet. It scares me.

I wanna say a parody but that's a lot of like minded people and a lot of posts all complete and utter crazy.

Sigh... if this is a real forum then there are even more crazies than I thought possible. Inbreeding is my only possible explanation for these people.

IPv6 will demand a familial sacrifice.

Landover Baptist is a religious zealot parody site. It often gets mistaken for the real thing, though, due to poe's law.

What do you guys think about a Witch Doctor build based around dots instead of pets? Kinda like an affliction lock. The pets all seem underwhelming to me.

That one made me giggle.

That's awesome! Diablo 2 had a creeping feature in it, which told me that somewhere there was a developer with a sense of humor about his job.

I have to say that I like this alot.

That's pretty sweet

This CE is everything I had hoped it would be. Great artbook, I'm ripping the soundtrack to iTunes now, and I can't wait to watch the behind the scenes disc later this week. I just wish I could sell the WoW pet to someone who actually wants it.

My minor gripe is lack of controller support. I use the mouse/keyboard setup all day at work, so coming home and having to do the same to play a game is a bit of a bummer. I am not overly concerned with leaderboards these days, but a little break from the ole' carpel tunnel is nice.

Now I am really starting to sound old. Someone pass the Advil.

1:55 p.m. PDT - Starting at approximately 2:15 p.m. PDT, we will be bringing Diablo III servers in the Americas offline for urgent maintenance to address several issues that are impacting the game. We anticipate that maintenance will last for about an hour and that servers will be available at approximately 3:30 p.m. PDT. We will provide further updates as they are necessary. Thank you for your patience.

I like how they keep adding in hours as their time limit comes up.

To be fair as someone who does IT related work, sometimes it can't be helped and I'd imagine everyone is breathing down their necks. =P I mean it's been 12 years, what's another 4-5 hours?

I pity the fools who thought it was worth using a vacation day to try to play this today.

Yay for unemployment!

While I personally can't imagine Diablo being enjoyable with a controller, there are third party programs to do just what you want with just about any game. Check out Joystix Pro for one example.

Boo character limit of hero names. I wanted to name my Witch Doctor billywitchdoctor.com but that's apparently way too long.

I'm having trouble coming up with good names for my monk and wizard. Probably because I like to use mundane male names for my characters and I want to play both of those classes as female. That said my go-to name is Frank and I'm using that for my female demon hunter.

As IT support I have conflicting feelings about Blizzard right now. I'm mad that they screwed this up and at the same time I know exactly what they're feeling right now trying to make this work.

I've added myself to the doc:

Battle.net: MacBrave#1193

Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/id/MacBrave

Can I please get an invite to the GWJ Group?

I almost named my barbarian Bain Capital.

They just did another server restart...attempting to connect again brings up the message "the servers are full, you are being added to a queue." There is no suggestion of a size of the queue or your position in it.

Is there a problem with achievements unlocking? I'm pretty sure I should at least have the "kill the skeleton king on normal" one
...on account of killing the skeleton king. on normal. 0_o

Not that I'm overly concerned about achievements, but would be nice.

Other than that and a little hiccup trying to login at 6pm (took a few attempts - well, more than a few) it's been suspiciously painless.

Recent IM conversation I had w/ a buddy of mine

(3:19:19 PM) Gut-gmail: tearin sh*t up on my wizard
(3:19:24 PM) Gut-gmail: got a 35 mob deathblow
(3:19:31 PM) par.002: im f*cking UP this login screen
(3:19:34 PM) Gut-gmail: killed 35 mobs in one hit
(3:20:08 PM) par.002: as soon as I get a f*cking "Cant Connect" button, I toast it and it disintegrates in ONE click!... f*cking awesome!

I feel vastly superior.

PAR

As one of the lucky ones who logged on early and stayed on, I got to play uninterrupted until the sudden server downtime at 2:20. The game is indeed great fun so far!

On the rage side, sudded server downtime interrupting a checkpoint save style game is an absolutely fabulous example of why this kind of constant connection DRM is a ^#$!ing abomination. I'm perhaps 25% into one of the largest single dungeon levels I've yet encountered and they start a countdown to imminent shutdown. Seriously not cool.

So I've run into an issue (other than the queuing). It looks like since I installed before I had a key it installed as a "starter edition". I've since upgraded to standard and it shows as such on battle.net. In game however it still has the "upgrade now!" button and all that does is take me to a page where it shows me I have the standard edition. Anyone else run into this/have a fix?

Well, I certainly hope you've been one of the lucky ones who's gotten to actually play it today instead of playing the Login Screen subgame then!

I can imagine how Blizzard is between a rock and a hard place right now.

Imagine, if you will...

So you plan for release with an estimate of peak demand during that most important first day/week. You size, configure and stage enough servers to meet that demand. Maybe even add in extra for unbridled optimism. Then demand outstrips available resource. It's not like you have spare servers ready to go. If you did, you might as well have put them online to begin with. So now you scramble.

Having said that, the fact that servers are being taken down implies software changes are being applied. Wonder what limit the true stress test found...

Not sure I'll be getting to this before Wednesday evening.

That's likely just a huge lag monster, related to the tinkering they're doing on the servers...I got 3 achievements at one time related to combat while I was in town earlier.
