Status: We have multiple level ranged groups and can work with whoever shows up

If you are looking to join up and need help leveling, there are plenty of us playing alts just about every night. Feel free to join the guild and ask in the thread.

Original Post:

There has been some discussion on the old DDO thread about forming up a static group and playing one day a week for a couple of hours. Since DDO is free to play anyone can jump in and have some fun.

Here is the plan:

Tuesday and Thursday nights starting at 8PM EST.
Server: Orien

Since we have two groups lets plan on using Ventrillo to communicate

For the 1st night lets have everyone plan on being through the tutorial and ready to start questing on Korthos Island by 9pm. (you are placed there right after the tutorial) If you need help choosing a class or starting off in the game in general please post below and we can help you out.

Groups are maxed out at 6 Characters but ideally I would like to get 12 of us involved so we can run two groups simultaneously through quests and be able to join the 2 groups together for raids. Raids are spread throughout the whole level scale and are not just end game content. The 1st raid is at level 6. If we get enough momentum going and want to dabble in some of the pay to play content I probably have enough Turbine points to get guest passes for the group.

Links and Tools for new or returning players:

Summary of the Classes
Overview of party roles - Has some basic builds listed at the bottom.
DDO Character Planner - I have spend more time playing with this planner than I have in game.
DDO item database - For all your loot needs.

So far the we have 12 people interested in playing:
Group one - Arovin (Artificer), Solemn(Bard), 4dSwissCheese(Barbarian), Blind Evil(Wizard) Toanstation (Cleric) Shoten (Rogue)
Group two - Karmajay(Rogue), AnimeJ(Cleric), Spynavy(Paladin), Atras(Monk), Zembonez(Fighter) Mousetrap (Artificer/Wizard)

DDO is one of my favorite MMO's of all time and has great content for static groups. If you have any interest in joining up please let us know.

Orien, huh? Any particular reason for not sticking around on Khyber?

Arovin's main characters are on Orien, I believe, so he has access to some resources there. And I think he's the only GWJer that's been active for quite some time.

karmajay is making me use steam and I don't like it one bit.

The participants should start thinking about and posting class preferences. Personally I'm most interested in a utility-type role (Rogue, Wizard) or a tank (Fighter, Paladin). I'll pick from that pool based on what others are looking to handle.

Also, I have "veteran status" meaning that I can start a character from level 4, so if we find the group needs tweaking after we get started I can accommodate.

Arovin, you should maybe post those links from the other thread here in the OP while people are in the preparation phase.

Ah, makes sense. Wasn't aware he'd moved to other servers.

Yeah I started playing on Orien after GWJ interest died down. I joined up with the DDOcast Build Guild on Orien then they kinda disbanded but my highest level characters where all on Orien so I just stayed there. If anyone has an attachment to their characters and loot on Khyber then I am OK with going back. My bloodstone and Ring of spell storing will miss me though.

I have veteran status 1 and 2 so I can start a character up at level 4 or 7 as well.

I am planning on playing a Bard or Artificer as support unless we need a main healer then I'll play a FvS or Cleric. If the party ends up being pretty well balanced then maybe I'll dig up one of my odd builds like melee palemaster or thrower bard.

Well I have a rogue and ranger ready but I think I'd like to try the rogue initially.

I have limited MMO experience, but fairly extensive P&P D&D experience, and I'd be interested in joining you guys if you've still got room.

I think I'd like to roll a barbarian, but I'm very flexible on that front.

I have a 5th level ranger on Khyber, but I can't say I'm terribly tied to it. It would probably be worthwhile to get a gauge of what folks are interested in rolling up.

So far stated interests are

4dSwisscheese - Barbarian, flexible
Arovin - Artificer, Bard, flexible
karmajay - Rogue
Blind_Evil - Wizard, Paladin, Fighter, flexible
AnimeJ - Ranger?

Spynavy hasn't checked in here, yet.

All we're really missing there is a main healer, I would be receptive to playing a cleric if Arovin doesn't want to/has one leveled already. I'd probably prefer a tanking Paladin with backup healing as the group is currently shaping up, but nothing's written in stone yet.

I actually rolled up a healer type cleric on Orien, so we're covered there. I'd say a tank-type and a bard-type and we should be pretty well set.

Excellent that is one full party. As we get more requests of people wanting to join we can divide up the parties pretty evenly. That will allow people to be more flexible with their build choices since their are two groups to divide the roles between.

I'm in with my Drow thrower bard for buffs, back up heals, CC and fun. Its a build I might not want to take into pugs for fear of ridicule, but with a group of GWJ'ers it should be fun.

Karmajay I can pass you some +5 thieves tools since they are not level restricted.

Excellent. I'm downloading the client now.

How much time should I expect to set aside to go through the tutorial? And is there anything else I should install or any other things I should know about before getting started?

It is about 15-20 minutes for the tutorial.

The character planner posted in the OP is a wise download if you really want o get into the nitty-gritty of character creation.

Checking in :). Havent settled in on a class but thinking Paladin/Fighter/Thief type. Any thoughts on a gap filler - I am open to playing most any class.

Ok Paladin it is. We are doing this Thursday 9-11PM EST correct?

I think if I roll a wizard you could do fighter or paladin and we'd be pretty well balanced.

Correct.

Paladins have a ton of short duration buffs and click attacks. If built right they can be a beast for DPS. They also need the least amount of gear to be useful in high end raids.

Here is a great paladin guild: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...
It is a few years old now and some things have changed but most of the info is good the it's a well written guide.

Arovin, thoughts on Wizard vs. Sorcerer?

Wizard for survivability, CC and later on instant kills. If you go Elf and Pale Master you will have really high spell DC and spell penetration for Finger of Death and Wail of the Banshee. Pale Master will also give you awesome undead forms and self healing.

Sorcerer is more about nukes and dots. They can get some good abilities from the Savant lines. Water or Air are the best choices for Savant. If you go this route Warforged or Human is recommended. Warforged will be more survivable than human but humans will have a higher spell DC.

I like Wizard over Sorcerer, but both are good and depend on how you want to play.

I was leaning wizard, so that works out.

You have to pick one prestige enhancement or the other, right? All the SP from archmage was really attractive but I have 0 experience with a caster so I don't know how things end in practical use.

Edit: Looking at it closer now I see the drawbacks to archmage and strengths of PM.

Right now you can only choose one Prestige enhancement line per class. That will probably be changing, there is a huge overhaul of the enchantment system coming. Its not going to be part of the expansion, they had to push it back but I hope if makes it out by the end of the year.

Details here and here

I wouldn't mind going Bard or Monk, if there is a spot open. I will make both and take them through the tutorial on Orien in case I can get in.

I have a friend from work that is interested in playing as well. He made a forum account and should be posting today. That puts us at 8 players so we can do 2 groups of 4. We should not have any trouble with most of the free to play content with 4 player parties.

We will need a 2nd player that can disable traps. I can roll an Artificer instead of my Bard as they are good and take care of being the 2nd trapper. Artificers can also be off healers so It should work out.

I will be playing as well! Not sure what character yet but my name will most likely be Solemn.

I started playing ddo a week or two ago. joining you guys seems like a fun idea, if you've got some more room. I'm new to ddo but not D&D.

Excellent, Solemn was the friend I mentioned before. With Zembonez, that puts us at 9. Three more and we have enough for full raids!

Are there any content packs that would be more beneficial to grab than others?

Ugh, I hate waiting hehe

For low level Delara's Tomb OR Tangleroot Gorge.

Here is a good review of the packs. This does not include some of the newest high level packs from the past year:

My original reaction to their FTP brand is that if you're going to pay for anything at all, you may as well just get a subscription for a couple months instead, which gives access to all of them. The price for adventure packs gets higher than a month of subscription really fast if you buy more than a couple adventure packs. For example, Delara's Tomb is 750 points, which comes out around $10, and since points are only available in bunches of 600 or 1600, you get stuck for $20 to get that 750.

I think until people get more experienced we should hold off on trying pay content. It may not be for everyone.

I'm probably going to start a separate character to scratch the itch between sessions.

Here is the line up so far. I divided them into roles, as long as we have a melee, some kind of healing support and a trapper in each group we should be ok.

Melees: SpyNavy (Paladin), 4dSwissCheese (Barbarian)
Casters: Blind Evil (Wizard)
Trappers: Karmajay (Rogue), Arovin (Artificer)
Support: Solemn (Bard), AnimeJ (Cleric)

Still unknown are Atras (Bard or Monk) and Zembonez

With what we currently know I would split the groups this way:
Group one - Arovin, Solemn, 4dSwissCheese, Blind Evil
Group two - Karmajay, AnimeJ, Spynavy, Atras

That gives us 2 classes in each group with some form of healing. One primary melee class and one person who can do traps. Zembones can be placed with whatever group needs more help.

If you were married to rolling a Bard I'm open to going Rogue, Arovin. I just figured we'd want a caster along, but if it's not needed I'm fine with either.

Actually, thinking on it I'm kinda into the idea of playing a Wizard now. Either is fine, really.

I like my Artificer plan right now. I am just debating if I want to go Pew Pew with a Crossbow or hit stuff with a Bastard Sword.
