Grim Dawn Catch-All

Just about $3,300 to go. Dig deep, people!

And it's over the top! Keep on pushing!

Maybe tomorrow.

Nope. It didn't happen yet. I really should back it. I want to back it. Maybe later.

Part of me wants to kick, but I already went in for the max version on the site.

I think you've totally done your part then. I wouldn't worry about it.

I feel like I should back this because a) it's an action RPG and b) it's a local team. However, I've never played TQ. Should I just wait and get this after release then?

If you plan on getting a locally-made ARPG, I think you can get it cheaper by paying for it now (or in however many days the Kickstarter closes). I completely understand people's general resistance to paying for the development of a game up front, and the perils of Kickstarter-funded games, but in this case the game is far enough along that it would be hard to image a way for it to fail to release.

So, if you fear sinking money, I don't think you need to feel that way. If you know you are getting it: pay now; otherwise, wait.

The one thing I fear is that they are playing loose with the alpha state. The nature of their circumstances supports this behavior but I don't want them to dick around with making us wait an extra 2 months for alpha access when they have been quoted several times as being like a alpha or refering to it as an alpha. The official status is re-alpha. If the game was currently in alpha I would kickstart in a heart beat.

I kicked in $18 towards this. I would pitch in more to get into the beta but then I recall beta periods in other games for me. I normally play always realizing that my hard work is going to get wiped and end up not playing much. I'm good on waiting for this to come out but did want to jump in now and pay less.

I would describe the state of the game, from what I have seen in videos, to be at alpha. It looks like the game is playable, with the major gameplay pieces in place. They seem to have at least a couple of classes, lots of enemies, and their engine working really well. I read the initial Kickstarter description as being funding to get more areas populated with terrain and quests, more art work, and game balance: all things that were intended, but having money lets them do those things faster. I don't have a lot of interest in getting in on beta testing, either; at least not paying for the privilege.

Anyone want to go in with me on a $32 bundle? I figure for $18 you get the game when it's released. For $16 each (2 people total) you get a $2 discount, a swashbuckler's coat and a Special vintage, black-label bottle of Enchanted Burrwitch Brew that never runs dry (in game item).

If someone wanted to go in for the $48 bundle, for $8 a piece each it means you get the first expansion for free for both people. I assume the game is gonna rock so would up my pledge for this as well. I guess I'll go with the first reply here. 55 hours to go until the project is funded.

Wasn't a fan their rewards tiers, but I won't say no to the $48 bundle. PM your paypal address and I'll get the $24 to you.

Now having played a few hours of Diablo III I can definitely see where this is pre-Alpha footage. Yes, the engine looks good, especially the environments, but there is polish missing from the spells and abilities. That's perfectly acceptable and pretty much expected at this point.

What I'm finding most interesting is that I am having an easier and harder time seeing things while in battle than I am in Diablo III. In DIII it's very easy to get lost in the chaos, especially if you are playing with other people. In the footage we've seen of Grim Dawn up to this point, your character and enemies in battle seem easier to see. Perhaps this is the lack of polish and full-blown effects or it's simple that DIII is a bit overdone (and may require more time to adjust).

However, there are times in the GD videos where I do get lost and this I believe has more to do with color palette as just about everything is gray or muted. I find it easier to pick out enemies and whatnot when the character is fighting on stone, but when it's on grass/leaves I struggle to differentiate things. Could just be me.

After watching the video, I hope GD's effects stay that way (a bit toned down) considering that the game has a more realistic aesthetic, at least compared to a game like Torchlight.

Eight hours left on the Kickstarter. If you haven't gotten in, now's the time.

Wow, they're up to $484K now! I have to admit, I had my doubts in the beginning because of the lack of coverage and the perceived ARPG weariness due to the D3 release. But I'm glad they're funded and I look forward to playing this next fall.

Dang! Missed the kickstarter deadline because I was busy. Ah, well. I'll just buy it at full price.

If you're interested I went in on a co-op digital deluxe package. PM me if you want to split part of the cost.

Is there still any buzz around this game? I have only just now heard about this and am getting excited with what I am seeing. You can apparently buy in now much like you could with kick starter through their site. Anyone have any updates on the game?

They're active on their forums. I think they just recently put up a poll asking what last bit of content they should make for the game. Forgot about posting that here.

Alpha Build goes live tomorrow. They're using Steam for handling Alpha (and presumably Beta) access.

Cool! Good to see this moving along!!

I was able to associate my key but I didn't get the alpha access. Maybe because I got the fancy Pioneer edition. I sent an e-mail to Humble Bundle about it but I can't check to see if there's been any movement on that because suddenly every time I go to the Humble Bundle page it locks up Firefox.

Agreed! No alpha access for me though, as I backed at the lowest level, just enough to get the finished game.

I still don't have my key showing up at HumbleBundle. Is there anything else I need to do to link my Kickstarter account with Humble? I used the same email address.

Finally figured out to hit the little plus in the upper right hand corner; only to find out I didn't pledge at the level that got Alpha access.

Really enjoying the Alpha. Easily the most stable alpha have played. I would call it early beta. Very enjoyable - really looking forward to finished product. You can definitely see the influences of Titan Quest. Really impressed by his efforts to date.

Oh blah, screw you and your dirty alphas!

I did spring for the game but don't think I have alpha or beta access. Glad to see that the game is awesome though!

Where they are: A great in-depth look at their road bumps, personal and professional, and current situation.
