Diablo III Catch-All

The closer we get to release the more I feel the urge to buy the game digitally and then hold on to my collector's edition for a few months before hocking it on eBay.

No other sources?

None that I'm aware of. I checked Amazon and a few other sources and don't see anything. Blizzard doesn't really have an incentive to make it available for release digitally by means other than battle.net anyway.

I don't think any Blizzard games are downloadable from anywhere other than battle.net.

I turned a hefty profit with some CE's of Star Craft 2 this way.

Be wary of scams through Ebay though, I had a guy buy it launch day for my buy it now price of 3x the retail paid instantly, then asked me to open it and send him the key.

2 weeks later PayPal informed me of a dispute, long string of calls and emails, the accounts used to purchase from me turned out to be hacked, luckily PayPal protected me and the account holder, I still got my money and the account holder was reimbursed from paypal.

Are you kidding me? That's why I stopped playing. The damned thing looks like a map of the Internet -- ON IPV6.

Wait, there are only 3 Diablo III skills? Linked to each other through a Diablo II proxy?

Oh, wait, Path of Exile. I read that wrong.

Still, I like my joke, so I won't delete it.

You know, I'm thankful for Blizzard's streamlining of skill trees.

It's full of stars!

I feel like we should make a sacrifice to the Skill Spider.

Holy crap, it is like a skill tree version of a Neal Stephenson novel. Get an editor stat!

Awwww, but I like the Path of Exile skill web!

...Maybe I need a psychiatrist.

And those are just POE passives.

The active skills are contained in skill gems. They can be leveled up (though I don't know how yet) and there are special linked slots on items that do things like the diablo 3 runes do. So you can take a fireball and give it a multishot gem, an ice damage gem and a trap gem to turn the skill into a laid trap that shoots multiple fire/ice projectiles.

POE seems to be developed by statistical savants. So far the gameplay is stock pick up a weapon and hack things down akin to the first 20 levels of diablo 2. The movement and combat is ever so slightly clumsier. I hope that the combat grows as you do. I am only a level 5 witch (intelligence caster).

I've got a level 12 Templar and a level 5 Witch in PoE so far, and the only issue for me is that I want to level up faster and keep putting points into that big awesome skill web.

MUST PUT POINTS IN WEB. CLICKY THE LITTLE CIRCLES AND LIGHT THEM UP! *DROOOOOOOOOL*

Y'know Farscry, if you're that big on checking off little circles you can buy 1200 square feet of bubblewrap for under $20.

Gems get 1 xp for every 10 xp worth of monsters killed while it's equipped (whether or not you're actively using it.) When they fill up their XP, you'll get a chime and it'll show the option to level them up in the lower right corner, or you can go to inventory and see them at the bottom. The new level will have higher requirements in terms of level, stats, etc., so you might not be able to level the gem up right away.

It won't let you level a gem unless you have the requirements for the new level (and therefore you won't get XP for it.)

if you do have a gem you don't meet the requirements for (you took off gear that gave you stats or got it from another character), then you won't be able to equip it (and if it's already equipped, the item it's in while be "disabled").

You might also choose not to upgrade a gem to avoid increasing costs. Higher level gems frequently have higher mana costs, etc. (I kind of hate this mechanism.)

And on the "must get further into skill web!" thing... Yeah, that's both the best and the worst thing about it. The best in that there's always something you want. The worst in that the thing you *really* want always seems to be at least 10 levels away.

What will be the digital purchasing options for this?

You can buy it right now via battle.net and download the install files immediately. The installation package becomes active on release day.

If I remember right I have the files downloaded & installed, but the game launcher is locked until release. Keeps me from wasting valuable *click*click*click* time.

Don't give the Path of Exile devs any ideas!

This is starting to remind of the Steam sale thread.

Well after nearly 4 years in a thread about a game that isn't even available, it's inevitable.

HOLY CRAP!!!

Previews of Diablo 3 stats and more!

Aranchnid Horror (appears in Act I)
Normal: lv.11, 72-120hp damage per hit: 38
Nightmare: lv.34, 1781k-2968k hp damage per hit: 496
Hell: lv.52, 12k-21k HP damage per hit: 4097
Inferno: lv.61, 49-81k HP damage per hit: 18k (!)

Armaddon (appears in Act IV)
Normal: lv.29, 1200-1700hp damage per hit: 443
Nightmare: lv.49, 12k-17k hp damage per hit: 3445
Hell: lv.60, 54k-76k HP damage per hit: 14k
Inferno: lv.63, 306-428k HP damage per hit: 170k (!)

Uhhhh... I don't think Inferno is going to be done in 1 month. Going from Act 4 hell to Act 1 Inferno seems like a slight progression. But from Act 1 inferno to Act 4 Inferno its a HUGE jump.

Also, Champion and Rare packs in hell & Inferno? CRAZY!!!! Its going to take forever to kill them. That Nelpham buff had better be worth it.

I refuse to admit just how much my OCD can kick in when it comes to bubble wrap...

D3 time killer

Is it May 15 yet? Huh? Is it? Is it May 15?

No. No it's not.

Playing TERA until D3 release. Actually, I'm enjoying TERA a lot more than I thought I would (even upgraded to the CE last night) which has lowered my excitement for D3. Probably still gonna preorder it.

It's looking like May 15th is not only Diablo Day, but likely also around the time I'll be getting my new car. Talk about staring at the calendar!

So what classes are you guys looking at for your primary character? I am somewhat undecided between everything but the WD with the DH slightly ahead due to a perceived higher mobility.

On that note, The WD was the only disappointing class in the open beta for me. While I played all others to 13 at least twice, I was bored by the time I reached 13. Frogs, spiders, bats and whatnot... it all felt so samey. Quite disappointing, since he was my fav before I had a chance to play the beta.

Also, pro-tip: regardless of class, invest you first 6k-ish gold in two Keen Ring of Wounding at the vendor close to the north town gate.

I'm still undecided too. I'll probably end up with a caster class for my first run, either wizard or WD.

Why?
