Legend Of Grimrock

I kinda wish they left the runes of the previous spell and had a clear button.

I know what you mean but that would also make the spells way too easy to fire off in combat (although I suppose you could rebalance the monster's HP)

I want the runes hotkeyed to the numpad, to be able to fire them off by typing, Magicka-style. Man I'm spoilt.

Quintin_Stone wrote:

Yeah, unlike my fighters, I've been spreading points out on my mage and I should probably stop doing that so much. But I find all these nifty spells I want to try out!

I've been doing the same. I spread my points out between fire and ice, and am now wishing I would have just specialized in one - probably ice, given some of the monsters I've run into. I think in my next game I'll focus solely on lightning, though.

Also, screw the Checkered Room. Just screw it. =P

Man, f*ck level 6!

I fire up the game with hope in my heart. Rage quit. Sigh. Try again tomorrow.

The start by any chance?

Yeah,

Spoiler:

locked in, critters about and that friggin ogre! Finally killed him, but I've been killed quite a few times by the spiders in that side branch. Making progress, it's just easy to get cornered. Last night it was the fire ghosts that endcapped my session.

I hear you, man. Banged my head against the start of L6 for 45 minutes. Rage quit.

Haven't played it for a week.

If you don't have anything else roaming around, the ogre's actually pretty easy

Spoiler:

just dodge his charge, whack him in the back a few times while he's stunned, back off a bit then repeat until dead. just don't get yourself trapped in a tight corridor, if I remember rightly that area's pretty open.

I had completely forgotten about this title when it was in development but had been optimistic from the videos.

I must say the sense of nostalgia is overwhelming. I can't remember how much time I spent playing Dungeon Master, but man talk about a rush of memories.

Absolutely top notch so far. I am very surprised that this type of game hasn't been done on the Ipad. Seems to be perfect for it.

I did a system rebuild due to an upgrade, and sadly forgot to back up my Grimrock saves, so I restarted from level 1 this weekend. I was only at the end of level 5, so it's not that big a deal. Plus it gives me a chance to choose my characters' skillpoints a bit differently based on what I learned with my initial foray. Fun times!

I love this game.

Level 6 is down, though of course there are some pesky doors/gates I haven't figured out how to open yet.

Can't wait for this to come out on iOS.

There's a really neat / incredibly difficult challenge on level 6 too.

Spoiler:

Can't tell if I was supposed to come back to the fighter's challenge later, but that was incredibly difficult. I must have tried it a half a dozen times before I got through it by sitting in a corner and banking on evasion for my guy in the back line.

Spoiler:

On both my normal and hard runs I came back to that room once I'd got down to the boss. It was pretty easy on normal with 2 fighters but with only 1 fighter on hard it was still really hard. I got through it by getting to a corner, and chugging down the healing potions, with enough defence you have time to make more potions if you run out so I had the alchemy dialogue up at all points.

Spoiler:

My rogue and mage died every time. I fought to the corner with them as much as I could, then spammed melee attacks, potions, and my collection of bombs. Good thing I never used any of the bombs, so I had a lot saved up.

Wow, my exact thought playing today.

Fired up my last save, descended to level 6 for the first time ... wow, that was fast.

Three or four wipes later -- yeah, f*ck level 6.

Just beat the game.

Nice, man!

I'm at what I think is the end of floor 9, and I'm totally stuck.

Level 9 is rather mean.

Spoiler:

There's a spot where you won't be able to proceed at all unless you take a scroll out of a shelf and leave the shelf empty.

It's one of those hurdles that you either complete without realizing or you're stuck and can't figure out why.

If that's not it, you can tell us where you're stuck and we can try to offer non-spoilery hints.

That room right after, that's where I'm stuck.

Spoiler:

Where you have four empty shelves and apparently need to place the correct items on each. I have a bad feeling I've left some critical items behind...

you did keep a skull handy...right....? The other items shouldn't be too tough to track down

All objects should be found on that level, but it's such a long, twisty level that it might be a pain to go back and find em.

On the other hand, the secret after them requires an item from many levels ago!

At least you had the chance to pick up that item a few different times, so by blind luck you might have one with you.

Yeah, apparently I was just over-thinking what I needed. Once I broke that mental barrier, I blasted right through it and most of the next floor. I am, however, now looking for what I assume is...

Spoiler:

Toorum, or whatever there is left of him. My brother just beat it today, and told me not to continue on until I find him. One key-less door in the SE of the map left to open!

LilCodger wrote:

If you're stuck where I'm thinking of:

Spoiler:

Yeah, I had no hope in there either. What I ended up doing was sprinting in there, grabbing the key to unlock the entrance, and then retreating and healing. Then I could heal up between short expeditions to kill one or two things.

There is absolutely nothing mission critical about finding Toorum

It's honestly kind of a general annoyance with level 6. Crabs especially. One crab in a tight space can wipe the team easily. When they throw a second one in -- well, you know.

You get an achievement for it.

Spoiler:

And a new text file appears in your savegame folder! What's the significance? I do not know.
