Fighting Game Catch-All

Oh sorry, I forgot to post here that I won't be around today.

I'll take this opportunity to remind everybody that the Saturday time is 3:00 PM PST. It is NOT 7:00 PM, that was a one-off. If 7:00 works better for you, then please say so and we can determine if a time change is needed.

EDIT: Bishop told me nobody showed up at 7 either, that's too bad. I figured MvC 3 would have a larger showing, given how many people say they own it. What happened?

Moving on, this week is Soul Calibur 5, and the final week of jumping around to various games. After this, I'll pick a few based on attendance, and we'll play those for 1 month each. This way we can really dig in and improve our skills.

Regarding an attendance sheet, I'll try to set something up so people aren't sitting around hoping others will show. I can also set up a Steam event, so folks on their PCs will get a reminder.

Sorry Bishop. Hopefully you saw my note in an earlier thread saying I wouldn't be there. I will be there for Soul Calibur V on Wednesday, but I'm going to miss Saturday again due to a bachelor party.

Saturday isn't working out, so I went back to the doodle and found that Thursday was the next-best day (after Wednesday). I've updated the OP so that the main days are now Wednesday and Thursday at 7PM PST, and Saturday is now an encore day, where we can show up if we're available and just play whatever we want. Does that work better for you all?

I've also scheduled the first few months of digging deep into games, picking based on how many people showed up each week. I decided to go with Super SF4 AE first in May, since it covers the fundamentals of pretty much every Capcom game and if you're going to master any game, this one will prepare you the best for mastering the others. Then in June we'll move onto SF x Tekken, which transitions nicely from SF4 adding only a few new systems to get used to. After that, we'll take a break from Capcom in July with Mortal Kombat.

You started with the three games I own

Also, new schedule sounds good to me, as I'm off work on Thursdays.

I like the new direction. Thanks for all your work in organizing this, Ahrez.

My pleasure.

You'll also notice the lack of some games from the list (Tekken 6, SF2HDR, SF3 Online). These got cut from the full month list simply due to too few people owning them, and to help keep the monthly list manageable (would anybody really want it to be 8 months before we return to SF4 AE?) Apologies to anybody who was looking forward to these, but they are prime candidates for the encore day, and I know I'll be down for some Tekken 6 (especially as Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is nearing release).

There was never even a tekken 6 week. Plus, you've made the list before SC5 week. Seems a bit premature to cut SC5 when it's week hasn't happened yet. I don't OWN SFxT but I rented it. How do you know who will show up if you haven't had the week for those games yet?

Attendance hasn't been very good since SF4 and SFxT. If 3 or 4 people show up for SC5 this week it should make the schedule.

I haven't cut SC5, I've just only planned the first 3 months out, the rest is still coming. If for some reason SC5 has crazy turnout (i.e. more than 5 people), then it will supplant one of the current 3 planned games, otherwise it'll come later on.

Only 3 people claimed to even have Tekken 6, those three being myself, you, and Bishop, and that's just not enough to schedule it. I still want to play it though, so I'll set it up for a Saturday (or some other day that's good for all of us), and we can throw down.

Thanks for the games, guys. My wireless headset died at the end but it was fun anyway. With the same game for a month I should be able to play a game at least once before fight night. When (if) SC5 comes around again I'll definitely be in. It's a much cleaner game than SFxT or Tekken 6.

Good games all around tonight, guys. Thursdays are bad for me so I won't make it tomorrow night, but I should be around Saturday.

+1, good games. I might be on a bit later tomorrow night, maybe 8PM instead of 7, but I'll still be on.

Given the turnout, SC5 will definitely be showing up for a month sooner than later. I'll update the schedule in the OP.

EDIT: Oh, I should have said earlier that the new schedule starts this week, so more SC5 tonight for those who are interested.

I'm out of town this weekend for a friends birthday, so the Saturday FFA is up to you guys. Next week we'll begin our month of Super SF4 AE.

I vote for more Soul Calibur 5. Anyone else in?

I'm fine with SC5. Didn't get a chance to play yesterday but my kids played it for a while.

Reminder: SC5 today at 6ET/3PT

Also, SC5 from MLG Spring Arena is on Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/mlgfighters

Later they have MK9.

Sorry. Couldn't make it today. I'm on call and we had an issue I had to take care of. I was looking forward to some SC5, too.

No prob. sirjoekcb and I played a few rounds then a couple of his buddies signed on and joined us. It was a fun time and they may join us for future games. Yay, more people!

Just a heads up ... I'm not sure I'll be around for fight night tonight. I've been fighting the flu for the past couple days so I might not be awake once 10pm rolls around.

Hope you feel better. I figure plenty of folks will show up tonight, it is Super SF4 month and everybody under the sun owns that.

Good games last night folks. I may look into picking up C Viper, give me a few more options against Homer and his brutal charge characters.

Remember, more games tonight at 7 Pacific for all of you who didn't make it last night.

The other night someone said they were wondering how people rapidly execute moves that involve full circle motions. Shoryuken has the answer:

Good games tonight. Bishop, here's a link to the latest page of the Rufus video thread on SRK:

Probably some solid play in there, though I didn't watch any of it. Definitely search for old EVO matches too, you'll see some great Rufus there.

EDIT: Salty Battles grand finals for Soul Calibur 5. Astaroth vs. Nightmare, some good Nightmare stuff here (also some NSFW language)-

I won't be around this afternoon.

SFIV: AE 2012 tonight!

Is it tonight or tomorrow or both? I'm a little confused on the scheduling.

The new schedule is Wednesday and Thursday. Saturday is unofficial.

I think I'll make it home in time for fights tonight.

I will be ready and raring to go! Gonna bust out my minty-fresh C. Viper and hopefully not embarrass myself.

EDIT: I'm running a bit late, should be on between 7:30 and 8:00.

EDIT 2: So I'm house-sitting for my family, and the router here really, really does not like Xbox Live. I'm going to try and fix it this weekend, I'll just have sit this week out. Have fun all!

I got a somewhat workable solution. I can play online, so long as nobody else is doing anything like streaming video or watching YouTube. I'll be playing tomorrow, hope to see lots of people there.

I'll be on for sure. Hopefully others can take an hour from Diablo-mania to join.
