The articles also mentions that she ate very little and smoked 30 cigarettes a day. That had to have contributed to her heart attack; maybe moreso thay the coke.

I knew a kid like that in college, only there was also cocaine involved.

That's probably better...at least it would work off the sugar from the soda.

So if she had been drinking pre-1904 Coca-Cola, she might have been okay! As healthy as a celebrity, they say.

Why is this the first I've ever heard of this?

Data Harvesting at Google Not a Rogue Act, Report Finds

The Street View program used special cars outfitted with cameras. Google first said it was just photographing streets and did not disclose that it was collecting Internet communications called payload data, transmitted over Wi-Fi networks, until May 2010, when it was confronted by German regulators.

[...]according to the report, the engineer suggested in his proposal that it was entirely intentional: “We are logging user traffic along with sufficient data to precisely triangulate their position at a given time, along with information about what they were doing.”

So Google has been collecting Wifi data along with street view pictures? ?!

I mean, sure, anyone with unsecured Wifi doesn't care about their privacy anyway, but still, this is pretty sneaky.

Or is simply ignorant as to how wi-fi works and/or how to securely set it up, as was the case with many of my neighbors who simply assumed the connection was limited to the range of their house.

Regardless I'm likewise left wondering why this is the first we're hearing about it,

Could it be because you can't easily find it... on Google?

It was big news about a year ago, when Germany refused to allow the Google cars in for street mapping, IIRC.

Remember the "Dougherty gang" ? the 2 brothers and a sister that went on that crazy crime spree last year, starting in Florida, and ending finally in Colorado, in a shootout with cops.

They were sentenced today in Colorado. One brother got 18 years, the girl got 27 years, and the elder brother got 32 years. He pleaded for mercy from the court, and received none.

They still have to be tried in Florida, and could receive even more time there. It's possible they may never see the good side of a prison wall again. That reminds me... I think we need a good news thread, to offset this horrible news thread.

Drunk step-grandfather pulls 7 year old behind his SUV in a toy car (attached by two dog leashes). Grandma cheers from the backseat.

The child’s 47-year-old grandmother told the deputy she knew it was dangerous to tow the toy car, but she said that they were just having fun and that they had been doing this all day.

Yeah, I know it's dangerous to tow a child in a toy car behind an SUV ... but hey, it was fun! Especially when you're f*cking drunk!

And the trailer hitch did a great job of taking out his baby teeth when we hit the brakes!

It must be tough for grandparents to compete with Xboxes etc

Also, that photo is pretty amusing. How much more caught red-handed can you get! "But officer, we were just having fun. What part of that don't you understand?"

BMW Motorcycle Caused 20-Month Erection, Man's Lawsuit Claims

Henry Wolf blames the after-market "ridge-like seat" on his 1993 BMW motorcycle for causing his "severe case of priapism (a persistent lasting erection)," according to the lawsuit filed in state court in San Francisco and obtained by Courthouse News Service.

Polish Dentist Pulls Out All Of Ex-Boyfriend's Teeth

Beware a scorned woman with dental pliers. A  Polish man learned this lesson the hard way when his dentist ex-girlfriend pulled out all his teeth during  a surgery days after he'd dumped her for another woman.

"I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions,"  said Anna Machowiak, 34, who practices her trade in Wroclaw, Poland,  according to the U.K.'s   Daily Mail. "But when I saw him lying there, I just thought, 'What a bastard.'"

A local tv station in India invited popular skeptic Sanal Edamaruku to investigate a "miracle statue" in Mumbai, a crucifix which had reportedly been weeping water. Within minutes he discovered a nearby leaky sewage pipe was the true source of the water. Because of this, the catholic church has accused him of blasphemy and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Damn science & facts ... always getting in the way of religion!

That's why I prefer the burn first, second guess later approach.

Speaking of tragic infant deaths:

The Pet Turns Wild: 120-pound family dog kills 1-year-old Jeremiah Eshew-Shahan

A family dog kills one-year-old baby boy; Jeremiah Eshew-Shahan was killed by the mastiff dog while during his first-ever birthday party. Family said they visited Jeremiah’s grandmother’s Las Vegas home whereby the boy tried to pet the 120-pound-beast. The dog allegedly sank his sharp teeth into the poor boy’s head and started shaking him.

As if their child's death wasnt bad enough, the police are euthanizing the dog.

And people say Mitt Romney isn't influential!

Oh they loved it. He just hoses them off when they get sick.

Mitt Romney's dog torture from 30 years ago has no bearing on how he will run the country for the next eight years.

I disagree...how he handles it now as "no big deal" or that the dog "loved it" tell me an awful lot about how he will run the country. I respect a man more for making a mistake, owning up to it and correcting the behavior than I do someone who merely revises history in his head such that it wasn't so bad a thing.

Note that my comment was not meant to be taken at face value, because it was calling Mittens a dog torturer and defending him and assuming he will be president for two terms at the same time. Too subtle?

Heheh, yeah apparently it was too subtle for me. In all fairness I waded through yesterday without coffee after too much coffee on Wednesday.

And now, back to your gawdawful horrible nightmare of a civilization, already in progress: Police: Hackensack Man Stabbed Himself, Threw His Skin And Intestines At Officers

Lovely.

In reference to the Miami cannibal case in another thread, photos of the victim Ronald Poppo's face have been leaked to the internet, from a so-called health care worker. The pictures will haunt your nightmares, that poor guy.
