TERA Online (Now Free to Play) - Catch All

I thought the "Head Start" began at 12 noon PST (3pm EST), but looks like the launch schedule on the Tera home page was just updated to reflect 8am PST (11am EST).

Launch Schedule

Nice catch. Looking forward to starting early tomorrow.

I am surprised after playing several hours of GW2 today, I think TERA is really a better game, and runs a heck of a lot better on my system too.

I am still going to buy GW2 for the community (and no sub fees), but my impression was the same as yours AcidCat. The combat in GW2 felt very sluggish to me after spending time with the Tera beta weekends. Can't wait for the gates to open up today.

Not sure if this time restricted, but beginning today you are allowed Free Server Transfers in case you have the need to swap servers. Read link for restrictions (all seem pretty reasonable).

We hate to say it but we're going to need to extend today's maintenance to 1:00 PM Pacific. We'll provide updates here as they happen.

Guessing I wont be running around with the new shiny this lunchtime then

I played up to like 21 (Warrior) soloed up to 16 and grouped with Zero to 21. I like the combat. It definitely has upped the ante on combat in MMOs. Positioning is important! Also, being able to set up combo chains should be interesting (I did not know you could do this till the end of the night, luckily the game auto sets some up while you level). In combat, there is good hit detection and I feel the visceral aspect of it when I'm smacking my 2 swords at it.

The world and graphics are very good. The monsters look different and menacing. I have not seen any BAMs yet hopefully I'll do that tonight. Crafting seemed pretty typical although I did not do much. The auction house is much better then normal. It really has some features that make it better then most. With gathering, as long as any party member starts gathering the same node before it is complete they will "gather" it which is cool.

I think overall (meta) it seems like a good addition to the MMO ranks but most stuff will feel familiar to a vet MMO player. I usually get 150-200 hours out of my MMOs minimum so this is definitely something to pick up sine TSW isn't out till June and who knows when GW2 will be out

2 quick things I didn't like: 1)Not a lot of variety in char creation (one tattoo and no scars pfth!) 2)When I read the description of the dye vendor, the dye lasted one day! I'm not sure if player made dye last longer but is also crazy expensive (think GW1)

Some pics, I'll try to take more tonight.

You fly a pegasus between long flight points. You fly for a min then hit a warp ring. These 2 pics are inside the warp ring.

Is there anything covering your backside? It looks like AoC used to when people realized they didn't need to wear clothes

The world of Tera apparently exists in a brutally tropical climate. While common sense seems to dictate that wearing more clothing would be wise when engaging in combat, the fact of the matter is that heat exhaustion is among the top three causes of death on this planet. As a result, the wise adventurer takes care to balance protection needs with the practicalities of avoiding heat stroke.

Also, the Castanic race has a particularly unique and interesting genetic condition whereby their bodies can only properly manage internal temperatures when half is covered and half is exposed. They may seem strange when you first see their fashion choices, but once you understand the biological imperative involved it becomes far more understandable that their clothing nearly always involves one leg fully clothed and one completely exposed.

What's that you are asking? Why don't the males of that race dress the same way? That's just silly. If you've played the game you would realize that males don't actually exist. What you see on the character customization screen is there only for informational purposes and is constructed based on historical records from before the males of the race went extinct (no doubt as a result of their foolish reticence to adapt their clothing to manage this tragic genetic condition). I can only assume that if you actually try to progress through character creation as a male Castanic you would encounter an error message and an explanation and apology from the development team, although I've never bothered to test the theory myself.

The 1st couple pics she is wearing the starter pants which are pretty light covered

In the last set I'm a warrior so I only seem to need skimpy shorts

I played the GWJ2 beta over the weekend and I've got the itch to play something new. Acting on impulse I just purchased this!

Is there a certain server or realm I need to pick to find Goodjers? I'm guessing there's a guild, right?

All info on first page of OP.

Oh, of course it is... duh, my bad!

I think this wins every current and future Tera related thread.

Here are some pics of a few BAMs that my mystic has seen along the way (through 38)

Here is the backside of another, it was tough running around and trying to take a screenshot. It was a giant spider like creature and when you first see him, he is all bundled up like a giant egg.

I completely missed the boat on this and the open beta. Are they doing any sort of 3 day/7 day or level capped free area demo trials or is this a buy only now that it's been released?

There were some buddy/friend codes that went out during the head start period (april 28 through May 1), not sure if those codes are valid logins now that the game has launched though. I tried to find information on that at the Tera forums, but didn't see it mentioned.

So on a whim I bought the game today. Talk about a ridiculous install time! I'm on disc 2 and it's been installing for 3 hours. I don't have THAT slow of a DVD drive. I hope I get to play tonight. Luckily I have the XBOX and Trials to keep me busy. I thought a retail install would be quicker than downloading 30gigs or whatever but I could be wrong.

So what's the consensus with playing the game via a game controller? I like it for movement and combat, but went back to the keyboard/mouse.

I tried a priest and an archer, but I think I'm going to setting on the mystic. Char name is Fufu if someone can send me an invite.

thanks!

I liked some aspects of the controller, but ultimately went back to kb/m. The controller seemed fun for a bit, but the controls navigating quest accept/turn ins and inventory annoyed me. I could swap between keyboard and controller for those parts, but if I was going to keep swapping, I just prefer to use the keyboard the whole time.

Actually, you apply to the guild in game and then we get you in!

Dethroned (an archer) has been created and I did send an app to the guild. What's concerning is I seem to see a ton of lancers and sorcerers around but really not another archer. He is fun so far but curious as to why there's not more of them around

Also, I have some weird subscription bug that says my sub ends today. I hope they fix it by the end of the day!

From the DPS side, I believe I have seen archers the least as well.
However, I haven't had your luck seeing Lancers. Right now in the 30 to 50 range, Lancers are a key commodity in short supply. With the dungeon finder not allowing warriors to queue as tanks yet, people are at the mercy of the Lancer population.

Hopefully the tons of Lancers you see are people realizing that and are rolling new toons.

The problem is your melee attacks are in a cone in front of you, and your front is aimed by the camera. That means for attacks like the slayer's whirlwind, you need to be 'aiming' with the left stick mid-attack. It 'feels' awesome but is not as effective as turning with the mouse.

This is all easily fixable with some modifications to how the camera works.

I also don't like how they've implemented interactions. Left trigger + mouse is an awkward way to get quests.

I really want to play my melee guys with the controller. Here's hoping I can someday.

This exactly.

Folks who have played these games with me will tell you I may be a bit biased in this regard, but I love the archer as far as I've played it (although uncharacteristically I've enjoyed the sorcerer just as much).
