Guild Wars 2 and GWJ: Launch Date And Final Beta Weekend

I can understand this reasoning for choosing a high population server at launch. Making sure the server stays active over time is a good thing. However I am having trouble understanding the reasoning behind there being less of a wait for WvW on a high population sever. Maybe I miss understood how WvW works.

Sorry, to clarify, I'm purely talking in terms of 'general server activeness'. The WoW guild has been successful on Blackhand; it's not the busiest of busy servers, but it's certainly not a low-pop realm either.

Depending on interest after launch it might just be a matter of maintaining presence in a high pop server for WvW, and a med-pop server for PvE to avoid the zerg fests. The WvW core group should be able to "guest" on the other server without too many issues from what I understand. As long as we avoid the servers that the more odious internet groups will call home (you know who they are) I have no issue one way or the other.

I'm super excited for this weekend. That's all I got.

I'll also toss my vote in the "normal" guild name basket.

5 years in the making and tomorrow the great unwashed get their hands on it. It's not too often something like that happens.

I believe that Sea of Sorrows is becoming the hot spot for Oceanic players and guilds, so it'll be active around the clock.

Meh, I entered my beta code back on April 10th but they never sent me an email regarding getting in. Oh well.

Sorry if anyone else I gave codes to had a similar issue.

Ooooh, fancy login screen. And this is fairly neat:

Digitally sold out.

ArenaNet have run out of bits to sell (or server capacity).

Damn. I'm glad I bought my copy yesterday.

Uh, wow.

Wow, I was planning to buy the digital edition this evening. Serves me right for procrastinating.

Same here.

I believe I've read that this has been happening periodically over the past few days, they cap it as they add capacity. Keep checking and you may get lucky.

As a quick summary I believe this is the particulars for this weekend's participation:

Server: Sea of Sorrows
Guild name for the long term: Gamers with Jobs
Voice comms: GWJs Vent server

Mike - can you update the OP to reflect this info.

Guilds can be created right after opening cinematic. Need to establish core leadership. I know Mike Zenke, Arovin, Gdawg, and I have all expressed interest. I am sure there are others. Suggest meeting up on Vent to get guild rolling and update OP so folks know who to get an invite from etc.... Lots of folks excited, but instituted blackout (like me) to get full experience. Want to make sure guild supports the spectrum of GWJ gamer from the dedicated hardcore to the dabbler which I believe is one of the reason our guilds tend to disperse after a couple of months.

I am leaving work at noon and should be ready to play when it goes live at 3EST. I will be on vent once I get home.

I'm still going through the mass info thread, but I hope to have some plan when servers go live.

Oh, and what're the bets on whether the time it starts gets pushed significantly back? Or, catastrophe?!

Considering that ANet have been cutting off the availability of digital pre-purchases, I would expect that they have an idea of what their servers can currently handle. So hopefully no catastrophe.

I've always been impressed with ArenaNet's technology and infrastructure. That's not to say that things can't go wrong, but I believe they will probably be the most prepared out of any developer.

The game is available for purchase again, just for anyone that didn't notice: https://buy.guildwars2.com/

DOUBLE POOOOOST

Can't wait to login to see how well the "wait list" or "holding pattern" servers work. It is a brilliant idea and will be awesome if they are able to get it working right.

That sucks. Still shows available for me. I guess they like Norwegians.

Beta is live.

Yep, I was just able to log into the beta over an hour early, so Sea of Sorrows?

That can't be right? I wonder what happened.

I'm on Sea of Sorrows, as a Mesmer. Character name Sara Sofia.

Also on Sea of Sorrow, warrior named Illicit Awakening.

I think this game is going to like good CPUs. My dual 3GHz is getting used a lot, but my graphics card not a lot. Ignoring optimisations that will come, I think a quad core might be a good upgrade for me.
