Guild Wars 2 and GWJ: Launch Date And Final Beta Weekend

Just want to point out that to those interested in WvW that going to a low pop server isnt the best idea. You want to have one busy so that you have quicker queues.

Right now we have no real understanding of what servers will be low pop. And again, they've stated that your choice of server for Beta weekends has nothing to do with live. Live is a clean slate, and we can assess before then.

I was just about to link that

I know I've already put something up on the OP and everything, but can I change my vote to Yak's Bend? I've now learned that several communities other-than-GWJ that are very GWJ-like are going to be there. That seems like a big win for us, rather than the sort of ambiguous hope of RP folks not being jerks.

Plus, Ranalin makes a good point about the strength of WvW.

I thought there was a cap to the number of people from one server that can be in a WvW instance at a time. If that is the case and we are on an overpopulated server compared to the ones we are up against in WvW, wouldn't that potentially put us at risk of having very long queue times?

I think Yak's Bend is going to be the "popular choice" and thus be overpopulated and I think we should avoid that one. I say just stick to Jade Quarry. Looks like we'll have PVP, Decisive Action (PvP), Lion's Arch Radio/Blue Isle for company there.

First off, don't use the redit list I can tell you that it isnt close to being accurate from what I see.
2nd this is a beta weekend we don't have to set sh*t in stone, just pick one and roll there.

I can tell you that I know Ran, Myself, Bean, Max, and a couple others will be rolling on Sea of Sorrows for this weekend.

My vote remains for Jade Quarry if Lion's Arch Radio/Blue Isle are picking that server. I love their podcast and find it to be one of the best GW-themed ones out there. But as WiredAsylum points out, it doesn't really matter as this is just a beta.

Um... It's a beta weekend so I don't really care. I just wanna play, so when you guys pick a server, let me know, and I'll show up.

Yep, agreed!

Unrelated to the ongoing server discussion, does anyone have any suggestions for a guild name? Do we want to stick with "Gamers With Jobs" or does someone with more wit then myself want to come up with something creative?

Here goes nothing -

Guildmates with Jobs
Guild Warriors With Jobs (a little long)
Paper Pushers of Destiny

I really like just keeping it as Gamers With Jobs, it's what our community is founded on and makes it more recognizable and thus welcoming to new members.

I seriously don't want to see the guild saddled with some lame joke name.

When is the actual release date?

Officially, "when it's done."

I'll +1 this.

+1 to both

I'd prefer either just "Gamers with Jobs" or "GWJ Alliance", which I think conveys a lot of the same stuff and is an honorable name people will recognize from our time on Blackhand.

I object to GWJ Alliance for the fact that choosing Alliance in WoW was the biggest gaming mistake in the history of GWJ.

I guess I'll be on Sea of Sorrows with you, then? I'm confused about why you guys didn't pipe up about this when we raised the issue of servers.

(No sarcasm or malign thought intended, honest curiosity.)

As opposed to GWJ Horde? Hmm, I wonder why nobody thought of that idea? ;P

I am intrigued by Sea of Sorrows. I like the regular availability of WvW on high pop servers as well as a full auction house with reasonable prices. I don't like over crowded questing regions where every monster sees less than 5 seconds of life. I also like random buffing and killing assistance from passersby. I don't like only getting 1-2 hits in before someone else kills the monster while I am trying to learn my class.

I really like just keeping it as Gamers With Jobs, it's what our community is founded on and makes it more recognizable and thus welcoming to new members.

I hope this guild thrives a bit more than the one for the first GW. Interest died off early from what I remember.

GWJ interest in MMOs always peters out over time.

Which is, in my mind, a plus to choosing a busy/active server. To avoid having to do a server transfer after the inevitable loss of interest from the usual suspects. Hence, my vote for Yak's Bend.

Regarding guild name, can anyone come up with a cool phrase that would have GWJ as an acronym?

This is also why I liked the original serverless solution of the first game. It was great.

By the way, are we talking about the server for this weekend? Or for launch? I want to make sure I'm in the right place.

We don't know what the full server list will look like for launch so right now we are discussing this up coming beta weekend.

I can understand this reasoning for choosing a high population server at launch. Making sure the server stays active over time is a good thing. However I am having trouble understanding the reasoning behind there being less of a wait for WvW on a high population sever. Maybe I miss understood how WvW works.

I thought it worded like this:

Every 2 weeks your server gets matched up against 2 other servers to fight in WvW. The WvW area has 4 zones that the 3 servers fight over. Each of the zones have a cap of the number of players that can actively be in it at a time. The cap is currently unknown but as an example let's say its 500 people per zone for a total of 2,000 people in WvW at a time divided by the three servers.

If that is the case and a high population server gets pitted against a lower population server the high population server would reach the player cap in WvW much faster than the lower one. That would be anyone over the cap for that server would have to wait in a queue to enter WvW where if you where playing on the lower population server you would not have to wait in a queue.

Correct me if I am misunderstanding it because I might be way off in my interpretation.
