yup just got an email from them....

FYI

How do I get the beta client?

Please follow the instructions below to download the Guild Wars 2 Beta Client. Once you’ve obtained the client, we recommend that you allow it to update overnight, as there will still be a large number of files that will need to be downloaded before you can play the game. It is important to make sure that you have at least 18 to 20GB of space available on your PC, as the game currently takes up 17+GB and continues to grow every day.

Guild Wars 2 Download Instructions
The first thing you will need to obtain the game client which can be downloaded and updated by carefully following the instructions below. We recommend that you begin downloading the client as soon as possible so you are ready for the upcoming event.
1.Download the Guild Wars 2 executable here.
◦If you are recieving a 502 error when trying to access the forums, please try again later.
2.Create a folder on your computer labeled Guild Wars 2 Beta. ◦We recommend creating this folder on your desktop for now.

3.Move the file GW2.exe into to the folder you just created.
4.Double click GW2.exe to start the download.
5.Allow the game to patch the necessary information from our file servers. ◦If possible, please try to download after 6PM PST or on the weekends, as there will be less people accessing the server during those times.

6.Enjoy!

Nothing but the 502 error for me

Thanks for the link Arovin!

well the launcher sure is pretty - gorgeous visuals and music. Too bad it won't do anything for 3 more days...

ETA: oo just watched the video, Lion's Arch will be available for the first time! Sweet

Got my email too. I already had the beta client (from a friend), but apparently didn't have access to much before with respect to files. Over 187,000 files to download now.

New post by ArenaNet about server world transfers and a list of server names for the BWE.

Purely for the purposes of having a specific world to play on this weekend, we should pick a server. My suggestion?

Jade Quarry. Great zone.

Any other factors folks know about we should weigh?

All files downloaded and ready for Friday.

Dang Luxon pirates! Get off my Echovald lawn!

In all seriousness, Jade Quarry's cool with me. We'll probably want to avoid the "badass" sounding servers like Sea of Sorrows because those tend to attract all the leet kiddies. Do the servers have specific time zones?

Apparently Yak's Bend is being zerged by reddit, guild wars guru, somethingawful, penny arcade, etc.

Let's avoid Yak's Bend. I'm fine with Jade Quarry.

The GW2 role-playing community has chosen Tarnished Coast as their NA server. Always good to play with the RPers, generally it's a nicer population. Are we just going to pick one server for the NA goodjers? What about the European goodjers?

Aren't most of you US based, and that's a EU server.

Jade Quarry is a US server - think you might be confusing it with Jade Sea which is on the EU l;ist : )

So, I don't suppose there are about 20 Australians that hang out here? Haven't done an MMO since I quit WoW before Lich King and GW2 looks like just the thing for me right now. Unfortunately, my time schedule only really meshes well with Australia (well, and Asia, but they always had their own servers and communication would likely be a bit of a problem.) Oh well, I've bought it anyway; hopefully better luck finding a group matching my time difficulties than I had in WoW.

I'm in the (mostly) same timezone. We have a small, but powerful, Aussie contingent here in GWJ, but I'm not sure how many will be playing.

I just pre-ordered and I'm downloading the client now. I pretty much know zip about GW2, but I played the hell out of and loved the original.

See you guys in game this weekend I hope!

There is a blip about guesting to another server. You won't be allowed to WvW on that server but characters made on Jade Quarry can guest to Yak's bend or even EU servers to PvE with others from that server.

You can also change your "home" server once every 7 days for a fee of questionable difficulty in obtaining. (1700 gems)

I have all of the files installed. It came to around 16gb I believe.

My install is finished

Is it Friday yet?

12.7GB here. I hope they keep 'building up' the client now until release, rather than wholly invalidating it each BWE or for release.

12.7 GB here too.

Umm... where does the game install? I downloaded it, installed it and messed with the settings. Now I don't see any desktop icon and I'm not even finding where the install folder is.

It installs to where ever you launched the exe from.

I think you need to keep the tmp and exe files after install as they are needed to launch the game. If you delete the temp file and launch the exe, it will download again.

Given Repo's comment, I'm going to say we go with Tarnished Coast, at least for this weekend. If stuff changes before launch we can always re-orient. I'll update the OP to reflect this.

Please note that I'm not sure you can 'guest' from one region to another. They talk about setting your region being easy to do, but it's unclear to me from the stuff they've put out to date whether guesting across region is easy.

check your download history and you should find it. It installs in whatever directory you put the .exe in.

also everyone should check it every day. There was another update on it today.

I didn't, it auto started. I see the gw2.exe in the browser's download folder along with a 13GB GJW2.dat file, so I guess that's the install.

Just want to point out that to those interested in WvW that going to a low pop server isnt the best idea. You want to have one busy so that you have quicker queues.
