No way. Pissing on people's heads is half the fun.

And what would you know of fun, Captain Hateseverythingpants?

The other half of the fun is hating the first half of the fun.

So I went back to the school I graduated from in December for the Mass Communications award banquet. A few friends from school were receiving scholarships, and they asked me to come support them. As it turns out, the reason they wanted me there was because I got selected as the 2011/2012 outstanding graduate, which came with a nice little plaque and some award money. I'm not sure how it happened, but it was a pretty awesome surprise.

My girlfriend and I finally got all our media from our awesome Iceland trip processed, tagged and uploaded. For anyone who wants to see more of this absolutely amazing country, my photos are here, my videos are here and my girlfriend's photos are here. She has two cameras that are far superior to my SX10 and frankly, she's a far better photographer than I am so her photos are definitely the highlight. I can't recommend Iceland highly enough as a travel place everyone should see.

I will check this tomorrow (oops, today) morning with a hot cup of joe.

PA: That is unbelievably awesome. Mucho congrats to you and your gf.

On an unrelated topic I suddenly really, really want to go to Iceland.

After 15 years of being a PC guy, I personally don't own one anymore, and my next laptop purchase will be a 13" Macbook of sorts. I'm on a 15" beast of a laptop at work, which is great, but with everything that's going on in my professional life, I feel like it won't be long before I migrate. Whether work makes the purchase or I do, it's definitely something I'm going to invest time in.

And I still like Bill Gates more than Steve Jobs.

Record store day!!!

Is that today? I can't handle it anymore after the absurd crowds last year.

What are you picking up?

I was going to say something but forgot. That's awesome, man! The photos are beautiful, and it sounds like you had an unforgettable time. I'm glad you got to take a break from all your woes because it sounds like you've had quite a few according to the loathe thread. Keep your chin up, and I hope the little problems in life get better for ya!

P.S. I'm extremely jealous.

Nice haul, especially Electric Warrior.

I'm about to sit down and listen to that now.

The not-so-long and hard apartment hunt may be coming to an end already! We found a great place, knocked $100 off the price, and just need to do the paperwork and get the co-op board's approval!

If everything works out, we'll be moving to a place that's in an equally nice neighborhood, with 1.5x the space, at about 1/2 the cost, with a shorter commute for both me and my wife.

Wow, that's a veritable cornucopia of winning elements for the "find a new place to live" game. Congrats!

Gotta be a compromise in here somewhere I'm not reading... Is it technically in Canada?

If I technically got Canadian health care, then that would be awesome

The compromise is that I'm leaving 'Manhattan' (Roosevelt Island is part of Manhattan borough, but not Manhattan Island), and instead I'll be in the nicest part of the Bronx. There's such a stigma attached to the Bronx because of the bad parts, that the nice parts are much cheaper to live in.

I tried to find that Chappelle Show clip of the fake Canadian ID cards, but it doesn't look like it's available.

Stuff's actually been going pretty well lately actually. What frustrations I have had have been very frustrating but overall, things are much better than they were a couple years back. Nonethelsss, the trip was very welcome and helped us both take a load off for a while which we really needed. I've already had several people from both here and my work ask about Iceland and I do really hope more people get to see it because it's really a gem. If CCP called up and offered me a job tomorrow, I would seriously end up thinking about it. And I'm a guy who has never lived outside my home town.

Man. I've moved across the country then back again and I am now living two hours from hometown. I like the distance because Sudbury, Ontario is a good place to visit (i.e. shop) but I wouldn't want to live there again.

My apartment is all packed up and in storage. Now, I just need to pack up what clothes I'm taking to Ft. Worth with me. Can't wait for Monday morning. I've been wanting to relocate for a long while now but, it was never in the cards financially. Now work is paying me to do it; plus I don't have to pay rent or utilities for possibly the rest of the year. *squee*

Well, since you ask...

Here's my haul. I didn't get anything rare. That was all gone because my roommate thought the store opened an hour later than it did. I wanted to pick up a Sigur Rós double colored vinyl and a Flaming Lips vinyl. Unfortunately, those were all snatched up at Everyday Music. We went over to Music Millennium, but that place was picked clean and the line to buy stuff was about 1 hour long. It was crazy. At least Everyday Music on the East side wasn't very crowded.

This is a pink vinyl of A Spoonful Weighs A Ton. The Flaming Lips do side A and Mastodon does Side B.

This is Blitzen Trapper covering Hey Joe.

This is Regina Spektor doing a couple Russian Ballads.

This was the most spendy purchase. T. Rex - Electric Warrior on 7" discs. It includes an extra song that wasn't on the original album.

I have an Esperanza Spalding - Radio Music Society download code up for grabs. It gives you a download of the album and the short films. Technically, that's illegal, but I already paid for the IP when I bought the Deluxe CD with the short films. I just bought the vinyl for the physical copy. I have no problems bending their rules just a little bit especially after I practically threw money at the record companies today. First person to PM me gets it! It's an incredible album.

Edit: Code claimed

You're near Sudbury? My employer has an office there. If I have to make an IT visit there at some point, we gotta' meet up.

Relocating would be an incredible leap outside my comfort zone for sure, obviously more so moving out of the country. I've never known anything outside of Ottawa and being the small city this is, it's amazing how freaked out I get even having to go to places like Toronto, forget when we spent 5 days in New York last year. That was like being in another dimension for me. The vibe in Iceland though (which is that nothing's a rush and the whole society just seems to take its time while still being productive), combined with how relatively high tech it is and the fact that everyone there is taught English in school so the whole place is fluently bilingual...yeah, I might think about it if the right offer came along. Other than my Mom, there isn't as much keeping me rooted to here as there used to be and once my girlfriend becomes an official Chartered Accountant in the Fall, she can get a good paying job basically anywhere. But yeah, I don't see CCP needing a relatively entry level IT guy any time soon.

Meet up? A mini-goodjer con? Definitely. My wife says yes yes.

Awww maaaan... I wanna go. That sounds fun. I'll only spend the money if it's in Iceland, however, and sigur rós is doing a surprise show.

BTW, I got a pre-sale ticket to see sigur rós in Portland. I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited. The super duper pre sale tickets sold out in 27 minutes or so and my roommate didn't get one. At any rate, it's gonna be epic even if it isn't at the Schnitz this time. They say third time is a charm (I've seen them twice and jónsi once).

My little nephew, ~18mos, was just released from hospital. He had a rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a pretty common childhood cancer. The pathology and results came back, and he's clear! He still has a year of chemo ahead of him, but things are really, really good.

I was there when the doctor came in to tell everyone. I'm not going to say there weren't tears of joy.

And then we had the most amazing dinner at Don Don Izakaya at Dundas and Bay, in Toronto.

Stuff really couldn't be better.

Congrats on the nephew's situation; I can imagine that's a load to have off your mind.

I've hear mixed reviews about this place, and I have to admit I'm curious - but my wife is allergic to soy, fish, and shellfish. Any chance we might actually be able to eat there? I'm not very knowledgeable about Japanese cuisine.

Glad to hear that, all things considered, your nephew is doing so well awhite, may he continue to be fortunate.

On a similar note:
Love being alive; as of today I've made it one year from the mri revealing my tumor and it almost feels like a second birthday.

I've been looking to change jobs for a while now, and now I have to decide between 2 offers! The first pays slightly less than what I'm making now, but it's much closer to my dream job of working in the games industry. The other is about a 30% raise for what is essentially the next step up the ladder from my current position. It's definitely more "corporate," though.
