The Witcher 2 Catch-All

Oh, that's totally the case. But it's also no fun that way.

What kind of crap can I safely throw away or sell? Is anything labeled "junk" ever worthwhile in any capacity?

Always sell junk. It's useless. Everything else might have a use, so be very careful when selling.

Junk is junk. I also regularly sell weapons that are obviously weak (although some non-witcher weapons do have other benefits such as reach) and armour, as well as reagents that I've got more than enough of.

They didn't have a "Junk" category initially. It was a royal pain to look through all items and determine if it was labeled as junk or not. Be happy they have that category now.

So I failed the blasphemer set quest, I had no idea it had to be made before the end of the chapter. I had serious problems getting enough silver ore for the blade :/

If something looks suspect, I would definitely give it a google. There is at least one item that is found in Chapter 1 that is only useful in Chapter 3.

You can find that again in Chapter 3, apparently, but I'd just hold on to it.

Meditate for 24 hours and a merchant's stock should replenish itself. That's how I got enough silver.

Yeah I had tried to meditate but had already started the assault on loredos keep, so no meditating... Going to get the next set though

That much-maligned console "accessibility", no doubt?

Selling junk sounds like a plan. Thanks, folks!

Haha... no, it was the 1.3 patch IIRC.

The Junk category in inventories is my favorite thing to happen to RPGs.

Eh, I'd rather they just give me some currency and save the step.

Fair enough. It's still progress though.

To further pick the nit, Too Human of all games allowed you to filter items by rarity. Anything you got below a certain parameter was automatically sold as it was picked up. That's the Canadian difference.

Except that that game was, by most accounts, f*cking horrible. We hereby reject it as Canadiana!

I haven't bought TW2 yet, so I don't quite understand how the game works. Isn't all this talk about a junk category or auto-converting junk to currency just begging the question? To wit: if junk is useless, why is it even in the game at all? If you can't use it, why does the game let you pick it up in the first place?

To convey a realistic world where not every item has an express purpose for the Witcher?

Nearly every Junk item I've accrued has been completely nonsensical. I swear one in three bandits carry a WOODEN RUNG ROPE LADDER.

All I'm hearing is the Witcher is not as good a hero as MacGuyver. I bet MacGuyver could make bombs out of whatever's in your junk category. PASS.

Haha. Methinks a MacGeralt mod is in order.

Geralt can already make bombs out of weeds and monster bits.

Ah, but Hyetal's wooden rung rope ladders would also be deadly weapons in MacGuyver's hands! Actually, they wouldn't be deadly, they would be cleverly incapacitating. But the larger point still stands.

I remain unimpressed until he can make monsters out of weeds and bombs.

I love this game so much. There's a definite learning curve, and very little hand holding, but it's great.

360 players - is there a way to turn off the little mini map in the corner?

After some time with the game, I can only describe it as a "luxurious" experience. Yes, coming out of Kingdom of Amalur, the cereal of all action RPGs, Witcher 2 feels like a slab of NY strip with a side of mashed potato topped with creamy gravy. I like it.

Nice.

I'm having a hard time explaining this but the Witcher 2 (and 1) has the best story of any video game I've ever played. But it's more than just a great story for a video game. It's a great story. The world is vibrant and feels real. The characters are unique and complicated. Geralt is a fascinating combination of backstory, badass, and ability for the player to shape him. I do wish the game had a little more monster slaying than political intrigue conspiring how much Geralt talks about not being a politician. Even the political aspects are fascinating. The way the story is presented, I'm not sure it would work for me in any context but as a game. There's a greater connection to Geralt after seeing him and the world around him.

This is all kind of funny since the games characters and backstory come from novels and have already been adapted into a movie, TV show, and comics.

I started my second playthrough over on dark mode and it's... pretty frustrating. I've died a lot in the intro. Nothing has been impossible by any means, but it takes a lot of saving and trial and error. Anyone find this mode is rewarding? I feel like every time I die, I have to game the system in an unrewarding way to get through it. Since Quen has been nerfed, parry takes a ton of damage, and I don't have riposte yet, I feel fairly helpless. I don't mind continuing with it if it gets better. I know the game gets easier as you level up (unless that changed).

Monsters continue to do a lot of damage throughout the game, so until you can upgrade parry - and even after that - you can't be taking a lot of hits, which means evasive maneuvers are necessary. I had an easier time of it once I learned the individual enemy's attack patterns. If you're still only fighting humans, remember that you should never hit a shielded guy head on. Always circle him once he strikes. Or just aard his ass a couple times.

If you're having trouble with a few specific encounters, I can probably give you some tips as to how I dealt with them.
