Games Soundtrack Appreciation / Discussion Thread

M.U.L.E. Theme

Haha nice! I remember sitting just listening to that on the C64, which had pretty good sound quality compared to comparable platforms of the day.

In the same vein:

Oh and hey, you all forgot World of Goo:

One of my favourite soundtracks in recent years, up there with Bastion. According to the Youtube commentary (and thus taken with a grain of salt) the second track was a joke, made to sound like a cheap 90s dance song, and of course everyone loves it.

Noob question: how exactly do you embed a Youtube video in your comment?

We have a Youtube button now, but you need to take the part of the video URL after the "=" and enclose it in the tags "

"

Swish! Thanks, tuff.

This is a great thread. BTW there is a Chrome addon that is the same as the Firefox one. Also I think it would be great if we used the GWJ turntable channel to play/share these songs.

Lastly if the OP could update to include the addon links that would save listening to the whole couple pages the good old fashion way before finding the addon link.

OH MAN! How did I forget the Planetside theme! This theme music is amazing!!
Probably my favorite menu music. I really hope they use this in PS2.

This sounds like a great idea, is Turntable still invite only?

Nope, just need a twitter/facebook account, and to be in the us... sorry... Tempast and I are in it now.

Ah. I'd join but something with that site isn't jiving with my Firefox config at work

Oh man, how hasn't this been posted yet? Still amazing:

It's from Civilization IV since the video title isn't exactly clear about it. I still get chills listening to it.

Seems like it doesn't like my popup blocker in Chrome. And flashblock of course. Works fine otherwise.

Just wanted to thank Redwing for the World of Goo recommendation. I found that Kyle Gabler makes it freely available here. Wow, some of those tracks give me a definite Danny Elfman vibe. Great stuff, thanks.

I would like to add the following:

Don't think I saw this one yet:

Ah Brinstar. Always loved that music. Super Metroid is such a chillout game.

Since we've broken out into the realm of bands/musicians playing music on their instrument of choice, I give you an amazing violinist who showed up in the Skyrim thread a while back, but this time with a Chrono Trigger medley:

Frog & Lucca Themes - ViolinTay:

and this one was linked to in the Skyrim thread:

She has a *ton* of stuff, some of it great some of it so-so, but her full channel is worth combing through:

EDIT: Man, this thread makes me want to get back to learning the Howl's Moving Castle theme on piano, and then go on to some other greats like Morrowind, Monkey Island, and more Final Fantasy (so far I only know To Zanarkand and a bit of the FF4 Theme of Love).

My daughter plays a lot of this stuff on the piano. She transcribed and rearranged Lugia's song from Pokemon. I don't have a recording of that, though (plus I think she'd come unglued if I posted it).

This just came up in my coding playlist:

I recall first hearing this (and actually most of the FFVII OST) and realizing it was a much different style of Uematsu's music than the SNES games.

Speaking of FF7, the Crisis Core soundtrack is fantastic, and contains one of the best FF7 medleys I've heard:

another consistent favorite of mine is the Distant Worlds Final Fantasy Concert (someone already mentioned it, I think), and my #1 from that is Vamo' Alla Flamenco from FF9:

Game wasn't great, but still one of my favorite soundtracks...

I love a lot of the silent hill stuff, but these two are my favorites...

This plus "that ending" = most heartbreaking ending of any vidja game EVER.

SH4 was a bit rubbish, but this isn't

***

Is this cheating? I DON'T CARE!

:3

My daughter used both of these in her wedding. They're from FFVIII.

Fragments of Memories (always makes me remember how bad Squall is at dancing)

Love Grows (this is one of the few I prefer the original version; the orchestral is a bit much)

Haven't seen a lot of Kingdom Hearts in here.

March Caprice for Piano and Orchestra (Kaoru Wada and the New Japan Philharmonic)

As a massive Uematsu fan, thank you for this. I've never heard it.

Tonight I will be jarred from blissful rest, in a cold sweat, tortured by the memory of "99 of 100 Nobles were impressed."

Thanks a lot pal.

Great idea, I can't seem to find the links for the Firefox one, and is there one for IE as well?

I have to say, I enjoyed being in there this morning. Was cool listening to what everyone brought along.

Actraiser has already been posted, but not the wonderful Actraiser Symphonic Suite:

Also amazing is Brent Kennedy's piano arrangement of Danny Baranowsky's Super Meat Boy score. http://dbsoundworks.bandcamp.com/alb...

I was yearning to hear "A Walk In The Woods" and in my search I discovered that each game in the Halo trilogy has its own interpretation of the original motif. I must say they really nailed it by Halo 3.

A Walk In The Woods - Halo: Combat Evolved

Heretic, Hero - Halo 2

Another Walk - Halo 3

Let's not forget the entire 7th Guest / 11th Hour soundtrack
