Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

Pages

I post this, terrified that I didn't see an already-created thread about this title, but I searched really, really hard and didn't find anything, so if there already is one for GR:FS, shut up, I didn't see it.

So, there's a new Ghost Recon game slated for release in May. Here's the Game Trailers page with the relevant media. They're pimping new features like the Ghost Recon Network and tons of weapon customization.

On the whole, the gameplay doesn't look vastly different from the previous titles in the "Advanced Warfighter" part of the series. And lord does it ever feel like they're imitating CoD's "tone" (or I may have just been unable to keep from rolling my eyes when the dude from "Future Weapons" popped up but I'm a cynic). I know I've lamented what GR and R6 have become before, but that's a meaningless argument at this point, since what they were isn't what they are now, or will ever be again in the near future.

Still, if it does what the last one does, with some fun customization and a few new bells and whistles, it oughtta be worth a few spins.

A note on the co-op though:

There's the new "Guerilla" mode, which, as you can tell, is basically the Survival mode thing everyone's doing. My only fear with this is that I remember playing Advanced Warfighter 2 with a few Goodjers to score the "Ultimate Defender" achievement, which meant winning a 60-minute co-op defend match. And I remember that being one of the saddest, most disappointing, boring gaming experiences I've had in ages. The AI ran headlong into a wall of gunfire, and the only way they ever "threatened" us was if they managed to snap off one of those insanely accurate from-the-hip shots that bad guys in the Tom Clancy's games have been capable of on higher difficulty levels for years now. I distinctly remember training my crosshairs near a spawn point, at what was roughly chest-height, and intermittently, almost absent-mindedly firing. For 60 minutes. Noone died, and the only real concern was running out of ammunition.

Basically, i'm hoping survival mode in this isn't as bad as that was.

Yeah the AI has always been pretty terrible. However, I still always managed to have a great time in the Ghost Recon co-op. I have this one pre-ordered.

Unfortunately it looks like they have dropped the 4-player split screen but still have 2-player. They haven't clarified if you will be able to bring the second player into an online game or LAN. This is a big feature for me since this series has always been a staple in my group of friends.

I'm surprised so little info has come out about this game with it being so close to release. I could care less about the videos, I wan't more data on the modes and features.

I have really good memories of both GRAW 1 and 2, mostly in coop and multiplayer, so I'm really looking forward to this game, though I haven't been following it too closely. GRAW1 is why my gamerscore has a value not divisible by 5. I never really got into the newer Rainbow 6 and Splinter Cell games, so Ghost Recon is my Tom Clancy flavor of choice, and i'm looking forward to squadding up with people.

I'm wary of this one. It's been shown and then disappeared so many times only to reappear again slightly different that I have a hard time believing it's going to be a complete and cohesive game.

On the other hand the idea of GWJ co-op in a Ghost Recon game again definitely has more than a little allure.

The other ding is that it comes out a week after Diablo 3. I suspect there won't be a ton of variety in my gaming schedule at that point...

Very hopeful for this one - My wife and I were huge fans of GRAW 1 & 2 and I'm hoping the split screen is available online and there are more co-op modes than just Guerilla mode.

Also, if you pre-order thru GameStop, you'll get a key for the beta immediately after placing your order - may not be a bad way to try it out. If you don't like the beta, just don't pick up your pre-order.

I still have that last Splinter Cell game that gives access to the beta

Pretty interested in this. I've loved all the Ghost Recon games I've played, though yeah, the GRAW subseries plays way differently from the early stuff. I would like to play a modern game that plays like the original game, but it is still a ton of fun either way.

It might depend on the state of my pile when it comes out, but I'll probably pick this up, especially if there are other Goodjers playing the co-op.

Thanks! I grabbed the first one.

Thanks! I grabbed the second. I'd like to give this a shakedown to see if I'm interested.

All of this again...

I don't know if I'll actually play this, but the footage I've seen looks cool. The high-tech toys remind me of Metal Gear Online, a game I actually loved.

The first E3 video they showed had interested me, but I haven't kept up with it since then. I actually wasn't much a fan of the demo I played for GRAW, and was hoping this would be slightly different.

I'll have to check out some videos after work.

Grabbed the.... awwww nuts!

Well the whole campaign is co-op although not confirmed if it will be playable split-screen yet. 4-player split screen is gone on all modes though.

Go, go, go!

Its been used, someone must have grabbed it.

I have my Conviction disk still.. guess I'll try it out.

[Edit]Code: ninja'ed

I cant wait for this to be on PC!

The gameplay is your standard GRAW, but the new system they have for modding your guns reminds me of the mods available around the old GR Thunder Island times.

I managed to snag a code for this on twitter. Playing the 360 version makes me more interested in the PC version but is actively putting me off the full 360 version. Aiming is just so very clunky.

If I remember, GRAW 1 and 2 have the same issue of slightly clunky aiming, but I always just chalked it up to being a tactical shooter where you plan your shots. Is this worse than that?

Downloading the Beta on 360 via SC:Conviction. I have zero interest from what I've seen (loved the original GR games) but you never know.

Not for me... it reminds me of GRAW 1/2 gameplay wise.

It definitely feels clunkier than those did to me. I never had any real issues with the controls in those games, but in this beta there's something weird with the stick deadzone or something.

I had my first few games with friends where our squad really clicked. It was a lot of fun. To succeed, you've got to communicate with your team. I had my first turn as a HVT and it was pretty cool trying to get people to back me up and escort me to the hacking station. We failed, but the planning and sneaking was lots of fun.

I was enjoying the beta prior to that, but now I really look forward to playing.

If this is for XBL its missing the first digit. I tried it.

Assuming a truncated copy and paste it's only 36 combinations. If you want the code you have to work a little, son!

I'm definitely picking this up for the PC. I'm hoping they keep the xp levels at the current level come launch. If not it's going to take awhile to make just to 20 let alone 50.

Cool, thanks. I grabbed "9CDX9-27Q4J-CMF92-9PJYF-6H93Z"

Does the multiplayer beta have co-op stuff too or is it all versus?
