SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion

Genius vs. Naniwa

Spoiler:

The in-base proxy pylon really scared me.
Great decision making by Naniwa though.

It's strange that he doesn't scout much now when he was known for scouting like a madman back in TSL3

Group A

Spoiler:

o_O Naniwa is looking pretty sick now, he's on an 8 map win streak. I think he could actually make Ro4 depending on who he draws for the next match. Either way, Ro8 is quite impressive given this new GSL format. For comparison's sake, HuK's Ro8 run was:
Killer 1-0
Bomber 0-1
Killer 1-0
NaDa 2-1.

Not a tournament result, but Bomber started a new NA account today. He's been streaming while shredding people on the ladder. Just got promoted out of Diamond, into 10th spot in his Masters league.

Just to remind you guys that tomorrow is the begining of MLG Spring Arena 1! Makes me sad that I'll be working this weekend.

Sitting here, waiting on Spring Arena to start, occasionally trying to login to the Diablo 3 Beta.

Oh Moss, you never fail to make me smile.

Man, MLG is really knocking it out of the park with the presentation and production at this one. I really like that there's a different atmosphere for these events than at the Championships with the big crowds.

Also, earlier on when all the casters/analysts were available and they were tossing to other pro players between games, it was awesome. Like, QXC and Grubby were just systematically picking out all the important details of the early PvT matches and it just kept going from there. Excellent event so far.

*Significantly less smooth experience today. Lots of stream stutters regardless of resolution, etc. Funky.

Also, Huk is getting destroyed today. 0-3 against Violet. Until that he was within one win of moving up a couple positions. Now I'm not sure what chance he has at moving on from the round robin, if any chance at all.

*Guys, seriously, if you didn't watch the little 2v2 tournament with all the players at the end of the night, you missed out. It was hysterical.

I missed the 2v2's when it was being aired live and the vods aren't working for me.

Edit: I guess they were still in the process of being uploaded last night because now it works.

Dammit, I should've travelled to Stockholm for that

Stephano got invited to Code S.

And accepted.

Also, TSL4 announced.
I admit that I'm pretty excited!

Yeah, this can only be good.

Also, Blizzard, KESPA, OGN, and Gom are announcing something together on May 2nd.

*And various notes on twitter from MLG staff have more or less confirmed Brood War pros at MLG Anaheim. No context for in what fashion they'll be competing though.

Man. It would be awesome to have a show-match between a couple of BW pros starting with a set in BW and then ending with a set in SC2. Unlikely, but awesome.

Another big news byte is that Heart of the Swarm multiplayer will be on a bunch of demo stations for visitors to play at MLG Anaheim.

*Hah! I'm finally bitten by the site causing a double post bug thing. Interesting.

I'm looking forward to losing terribly to someone while playing the HotS beta at Anaheim.

I think I'd be looking forward to the now basically confirmed list of BW pros coming to the event. Flash, Bisu, Stork, Jaedong, Hydra, Fantasy, Jangbi, Leta, Zero, etc have all been name dropped on twitter by MLG employees now.

Gonna be a heck of an interesting weekend.

If we're posting memes I have to post this one

I am interested in seeing how the BW players do with so little practice, but since I don't follow the BW scene much there's very little hype in it for me.

Watching a little bit of the ESL Iron Lady tournament today. Scarlett/Flo just ended. Was like watching a lion use its jaws to toss a field mouse into the air a bunch of times before finally crunching its neck and swallowing it whole. Flo needs some serious work on the macro side of things. Never had a chance.

There was a time when I wouldn't have been nearly as excited by the idea of those guys switching over as I actually am now. Watching the last couple of Proleague finals has been a fairly eye-opening experience.

Naniwa v MVP:

Spoiler:

Oh, the cheese. It was smart, but... oh... the cheese. *sigh* Ahh, well. Good run for Naniwa.

Yeah. It ended and I was like well... ok. That happened.

I'm excited to see the other two matches tonight though. Team Liquid could end up with a player in the finals

On the other hand, the finals could be PvP

*Wow, what a disappointing round of 8. Three really quick 3-0's and a 3-1. Also now super heavy odds toward a PvP final.

I don't think MVP can deal with Parting. There was a time when he could have, but I really don't think he can right now.

They were talking about his wrists hurting which might explain the cheese and why he's not going to be a great contender at this Ro4... Yeah, PvP would be a weird final unless we get a couple of these guys that like to play the long game. But I would prefer PvT... I really wish we could have MVP vs. Parting final, but I predict Parting/Hero

We will see soon.

Even if I stay up for a PvP final it'll be over in 15 minutes so no big loss in terms of sleep

He's been having trouble with his wrists since late last year sometime. That's not why he cheesed. He cheesed because Naniwa gets super, super predictable at times. There's a reason people started the "Fast expand or die trying" Naniwa meme a while back.

It's the same thing that cost him all those games at MLG Providence against Leenock. He plays greedy and gets slapped down for it, and it seems like the farther he gets into a tournament the more likely he is to keep doing it.

Also: the funny.
