Games Soundtrack Appreciation / Discussion Thread

So, am I the only one who uses flashblocker so that when viewing this thread I just get a bunch of blank boxes until I click the icon?

This also means that if someone posts a video and doesn't describe what it is, I'm clueless unless I click to show it.

Megaman 2 (SNES): Wiley's Stage

Actraiser (SNES): Birth of Humans

Because this version is not that well known, but it is one of the better remixes I've heard, I give you The Monkey Island Medley:

I, for one, am shocked at the breadth of content available on YouTube for this thread.

You can find all manner of music on YouTube. It's just a matter of most uploaders staying one step ahead of the RIAA takedown bots.

Has this been posted yet? If it hasn't then shame on us for making it to page 5 without Doom appearing:

I don't think this got mentioned - my favorite of the NES era:

Think of them as wrapped presents, or, if you like RPGs, unidentified magical items.

Here's a great rock/funk rendition:

What a funky night to have a curse!

Dreamfall - a game I hated to play and yet still loved because everything besides the "game" bit was so good. (Someone get the writers their own movie or something?) Here's some of my favorite bits from the soundtrack.

Dreamfall - Casablanca

Dreamfall - Kian's Theme

Dreamfall - The Hospital Room

Thanks for contributing all these, folks. I'm using that Firefox plugin to listen to all of these and two days in, I'm still on page two.

+1 for Actraiser. I submitted this one for the name that tune contest awhile back. I just may send in another. They are always fun.

Also, Magnet Man. Magaman 3 had the best music of the series

I still prefer Megaman 2´s OST, but 3´s is also spectacular. I love this rendition of Top Man´s Theme:

Top Mans music is tops! Wish it was better audio quality.

The full Mega Man 2 medley from Minibosses is by far my favorite:

Nice medley, though I think they botched Bubble Man´s theme. Still pretty awesome though!!

Now for some reckless driving music, I present you, Battletoads Turbo Tunnel theme!!!

Thanks for keeping me up till 2am with all these magical bits of music and fond memories!

But I'm still missing my favourite track from Machinarium.

Sticking to the indie theme, my pick of the Swords & Sworcery crop is definitely this.

Noob question: how exactly do you embed a Youtube video in your comment?

The Botanicula soundtrack just went up for preorder on minorityrecords.com (they released the Machinarium soundtrack). You can listen to the whole thing here. Unfortunately, I can't embed the soundcloud player. DVA is the Czech group that did the soundtrack. I think the first track, Juchu, is the best. If anyone likes Tomas Dvorak stuff, Little Big Planet, and Amanita Design, this should be right up your alley.

I was bad and ordered all three different colored vinyls. I might not keep them all, but I want to be able to have an extra copy or two for a gift just in case. The colored vinyls will sell out quickly if Machinarium's soundtrack is any indication.

The composer for Plants Vs Zombies playing a Super Meat Boy track is nice:

So many great and beautiful tracks have been posted already. So I think it's time for something hella badass. I don't know if it's actually good, but it was damn awesome when I was a teenager, and that hasn't changed.

And here's the full thing.

Ah, good old Frank Klepacki. I'm not sure how I failed to post that and a sample or two from the first C&C.

Friend and I used to play modem games on the first one and I always played with the music volume turned all the way up and the game sound at 50% or so

We have a Youtube button now, but you need to take the part of the video URL after the "=" and enclose it in the tags "

"

For example, if the URL is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjFer..., put the "MjFerxQeh2k" part in between the Youtube tags without the quotes.

Edit: In case you skimmed the thread, I posted some Machinarium vinyl pics earlier in the thread if you are curious what that looks like.

Machinarium is by far my favorite game soundtrack.

Here are some of the game soundtracks that are on my iPod:

Sins of a Solar Empire - one of the best sci fi themes I've heard (besides Mass Effect)

Jeremy Soule is best known for his work with Elder Scrolls, but his music for the Guild Wars series is also awesome. He also mixes things up with Asian and African influences for some of the expansions.

If you love Star Wars music, the Old Republic has awesome takes on the traditional movie score:

From one of the best unrated games of all time:

E.V.O. the Search for Eden Title Screen (original)

Orchestrated version so you can hear how beautiful it really is:

And because I think it is awesome, an full on opera hall arrangement of the opera in FF7:

I'll have to compile a list of which game I have music from on my iPod when I get home from work...

I didn't see this posted.

While I can't say I like the whole soundtrack to Demon's Souls, it has some tracks that I think are outstanding and unusual.

This one uses horns in a way that I've never heard for any kind of gothic fantasy setting:

And this one does some cool stuff with its timing (sorry for my lack of knowledge of official music terminology):

I know it's just Toccata and Fugue done in chiptunes, but I played so much Gyruss on the Coleco Vision the music for the opening level was burned into my brain. When I hear full orchestral versions of it now I still see that game in my head.

After playing hours and hours of Borderlands, a few songs tend to stick.

And my favorite remix of Castlevania's Monster Dance (not found on youtube :()
Edit: Also, Brynstar

Super Mario Galaxy has some of my favorite in-game music pieces.

Rosalina's Theme, which there are three versions of and all are beautiful.

Wind Garden, which is fantastic and such a happy song.

Fountain of Dreams from Melee, but is overall a fantastic song. One of my favorite levels from the game and one I wish they kept for Brawl.

EDIT: Changed my videos to links to make it a tad easier.

I always like the Valve's stuff from Half Life 2.

Like this:

I always liked this from Portal also.

This is my favorite song from a great soundtrack. Whenever I hear the intro, though, I always think of this great intro song:
