Walking Dead (No Comics! No Spoilers Beyond What's Aired)!

Pages

So the guide lines are pretty simple. If it hasn't aired as part of an episode, which does NOT include sneak peaks for next week, it's off limits, unless you spoiler tag it. Or you can talk about it freely in the Walking Dead Spoiler thread if you think it's going to start a rather long conversation.

Speculation on what might happen in the series is fine. Just keep in mind Comic book info, articles from interviews or any other information out there about the series is off limits.

I for one am looking forward to next season, even though this past season was a bit hit or miss for me. I can't wait to find out more about the character with the chained zombies, and I hope to hell Lori and her son die soon, (highly doubtful) I hate them so much! Stupid useless characters.

Subbing! Although I worry that too much fracturing means this thread will just starve and fade away.

Quick comment, I'm fairly sure that Gaald and I are alike in that even the [cursed] "coming next week..." exit montages are spoilerific. Usually they try to edit them to be misleading but usually the guy doing the edits isn't as clever as he thinks and it still sets up scene expectation. Our family stops the DVR as soon as the episode concludes so we don't get the sanctioned spoilers. If the show is good I really don't need a carrot to watch next week's.

I fixed the first post to make clear sneak peaks aren't part of the episode. I fully agree, I hate those as well.

Well I for one will be coming here to talk about the show from now on. So there will be at least two of us. Although I expect there will be several others.

I'm not a huge contributor in show threads but I love reading all opinions on the shows I like. Sure some people pick nits with a magnifying glass but I think we should be able to expect more out of quality entertainment when it just relies on prior success and flubs up.

They should take a cue from Mad Men. The nature of that show helps, I'm sure, but Next Times are comically vague, just characters saying individual lines that are almost utterly meaningless--Joan says "Well, we have to do something!" Pete says "I didn't realize." Betty sighs, Sally says "No thanks." Really, they're hilarious. The spoilers I culled from the last one included "Roger will pour a drink and be dismissive," "Bert Cooper will be out of the loop," and "Peggy will be on the phone, saying she's responsible."

I'll likely be here, assuming "Hatin'" on the show when it spins its wheels, is inconsistent with its characters, repeats stories for no real purpose, and generally being critical when it isn't very good is welcome. Looking at the other thread, anything less than effusive praise is hating.

You can add my name to the list of subscribers to this thread. I haven't been vocal in the spoiler vs. non-spoiler debate, but I do greatly appreciate the creation of total non-spoiler threads. So Gaald, thank you for creating this one.

A safe place to be a trailing edge-er, and non spoiler.

So having never read the comics, how do you think they're going to pull off the zombie keeper, without her being a cartoon? Seems like there'd be much more room for this the comic. The show has been fairly seated in [TV land]realism.

Yeah, I don't see how the zombies are supposed to be domesticated.

No arms, no jaw, maybe they just get bored and give up.

I have absolutely no idea how they are going to keep this from seeming unrealistic, but I am hoping it will be fun finding out.

RE chained zombies.
I would believe something like, she somehow overrides all base instincts. The explanation that the CDC doctor gives has something to do with only the most basic instincts are taken over when the brain is infected. Maybe she has a sack full of appetite supression diet pills that she stuffs them full of. Or maybe shoots them full of heroin. I feel so silly when the answer is in print. I just have to get the comics and read them. The reason I don't is it sounds like the comic fans in the other thread don't enjoy the show. I don't want to get there.

I'm not so much worried about the realism of it, but the tone of it; if that makes any sense. It's been mor or less cop drama so far. It just jumped genres from Dexter to Heroes. Or something like that.

So, what are you guys doing to get your post apocolypse fix until fall? 3 airs in the fall right?
I just love the, "how do I think I'd survive" kind of thinking this makes you do.

I'm a huge fan of the comics, and a huge fan of the show. The reasons other comic fans have a hard time enjoying the show are A: it's got some pretty bad writing in places and B: some people don't get that the show is an alternate version of the story in the comic, so it's not supposed to follow it exactly.

AMC has new web episodes up called Cold Storage that you can watch now. New episodes of the tv show start Oct 14th.

So yeah, crazy start to the season! I felt like that whole conversation between the Doc and Lori was one big apology for her sh*tty story line from last year.

Hoping I am not the only one following this thread. Another great episode! It's amazing how much better the show is with zombies in it.

All the discussion is in other threads. The show's great, but not quite so great to support 3 or 4 separate threads.

After having to put up with people posting spoilers from the comic book in the non comic book thread on more then one occasion, a few of us decided we had enough. I guess most of them forgot.

Not me! I just caught up on the last two episodes though. Damned Dish is driving me ashore in Tortuga. Although I guess they made nice and there was a marathon on Sunday.

Phew, ok, good. i like this thread.
Faved.

See you Monday.

Yay! People to discuss with. Excellent.

OK, so some predictability here. Not too bad. Sad to see how it ended but I kind of guessed it would go this way though the additional players I did not expect.

As the show just ended a few minutes ago I won't give anything away just yet.

Once it has aired, the stuff that happens in the episode is fair game, and people should know to avoid coming in until caught up so don't worry feel free to talk about the episode. Just as reminder though, the preview for next week is not part of the episode and must be spoiler tagged or better yet avoided.

Yeah once the mayhem started and the group was separated you sort of new what was going to happen. I didn't find her death all that tragic to be honest, I saw it as inevitable. Her character was poison to any story she touched after last year. Yeah they made some strides in repairing some of that damage but not enough for her death to hit hard. I am way more interested in how it affects the group.

Yeah,

Spoiler:

during the interminable morning after pill storyline last year, I said that given the circumstance and her body type, looking into that option seemed wise and necessary. I feel season 3 has been a pretty big improvement over 2, but Lori keeping the fetus really seemed like a choice that didn't come from character, but from the writing team saying "It'll be easier to write stories with a baby." And they finally get around to giving T-Dog his own perspective and attitude for an episode, I should have guessed he was marked for death.

It's pretty hilarious that it's Rick's fault, though.

Spoiler free Commentary:

I watched last night's show. It was more interesting than other shows before, after and at the same time.

I will watch again next week.

They traded Lori for someone not quite as useless (baby).

I wasn't moved at all. Thought it was more gruesome than emotional.

If they really wanted to hit hard, they would have had her die, and the baby would have come out dead as well. That would be have been crazy cakes!

Zombie baby, a la Dawn of the Dead remake.

...it would have been cool if there was some problem with the fetus, and they had to cut it out of her before it turned in utero...

I just can't believe the turn around this show has performed since last year. I am loving the season so far, Rick looks like he has totally cracked, and I hope it's an awesome crazy!

So, anyone want to take bets on how long the baby lives?
