Shadowrun Returns Catch-All

I'm so happy this is doing as well as it is. Can't wait for this to drop.

Also love the way my beloved pen and paper RPGs of years gone are coming back into the limelight - both this and CCP'S World Of Darkness sound awesome.

Speaking of which, the current developers of the PnP version of Shadowrun (Now in it's 4th Edition, 20th Anniversary rules) just announced the "Shadowrun 2050" sourcebook. This takes the Story setting from the 1st and 2nd Editions (also the same story setting for both SNES and Genesis games) and mashes it with the current, more streamlined, rule set.

Yeah, heard about that! Sounds like the perfect time to get back into the PnP Shadowrun. I only ran the original way back when.

Today, we’re announcing a new reward level for our Kickstarter. At the brand new $125 level, you’ll get a Shadowrun Returns Deluxe Box Edition including the game disc, soundtrack disc, a mini-poster, and—check this—a Shadowrun Returns USB Dog Tag set, containing DRM-free versions of the game (PC/Mac/Linux) and soundtrack (and maybe one or two other surprises, too). I've been grabbing up old 1st, 2nd and 3rd edition Shadowrun suppliments from the used pile of my FLGS mostly just for the setting fluff. For $15 its a no brainer!

Donated to this, and am (finally) playing the Genesis game, all these years later. I owned and loved the SNES version; thank goodness for great NTSC video plugins, an emulator box, and a USB Sega controller...

I am tempted to play the SNES version again. Last time I played it I did so in emu despite owning an original copy and used a few cheats to remove most of the grinding. Was sort of surprised at how fast you can make it through that game when you don't have to grind karma and nuyen.

I'm a little confused. Are they making a PC version, a Mac version, and tablet versions (and does tablet encompass iOS and Android)?

The $15 tier says PC, and a desktop picture for your Mac, pc, tablet or Mobile device.

I would want to play this primarily on my iPad, so I want to make sure it's covered. Anyone know for sure?

Yes, it's being done for PC, Mac, iOS and Android. However, they say in the FAQ at the bottom of their kickstarter page that the free copy people will get for backing it is the PC/Mac version. They say that the tablet stores make it difficult for developers to give away their game for free (I imagine the difficulty lies in making it free for backers, but normal priced for everyone else). From the sound of it, if someone can figure out a way to do it, they'd be happy to make the free copy include the tablet versions.

Just found this thread and bit for $15.

I'm sure they could send out redemption codes for the App store... Pity, may still bite for the price though.

Apple limits the number of promo codes a developer can give out to 50 for some stupid reason.

All the talk of the console games has in interested in checking them out. I'm not aware of any ports on the current consoles. Am I relegated to emulation for hassle-free access?

QFT, thanks for the insight though.

Because they want their slice of the Apple pie

otherwise people would circumvent the app store

For these older titles, that is probably your fastest route to playing them. Te best advice I can give you is to pick up a USB controller that looks and feels like that of the system you are emulating, and to use a program which can mimic some of the screen effects of playing on a CRT; combined, it makes for a very good experience, and you won't really notice that the game is 20+ years old.

Failing that, just blow the dust off your old cart, and plug into the CRT TV you keep in the corner, just so the SMS and NES light guns still work too.

Or better yet get a USB dongle that lets you use one of the original controllers (or a very good third party version which is what I do for SNES).

Well, I just decreased my pledge to Wasteland 2 because I wanted the 125$ tier for Shadowrun
At the amount I was going to pledge on Shadowrun, I just couldn't afford both.

Let's see... at that tier I get

- a DELUXE BOX EDITION including the game disc, soundtrack disc, a mini-poster
- a Shadowrun Returns USB Dog Tag set
- a HARDCOVER EDITION of the Shadowrun Returns Anthology
- a personalized GOLD Doc Wagon card
- a Shadowrun Returns "BACKER" T-SHIRT
- the IN-GAME DocWagon benefit
- a SPECIAL ABILITY only available to backers
- exclusive desktop WALLPAPER
- a Digital Downloadable copy of the game, DRM free on PC, Mac, or Linux

Beats 99% of collector's editions out there these days

If the project hits 1.5M, they're going to do a special backers-only mission that links the stories of the SNES and Genesis games in some way. Which is hilarious.

My favorite part of that announcement is that, in the comments, most of the backers just want them to make it available to everyone. Way to go, Runners.

I'm not sure if the is the most recent Shadowrun Returns thread, but they just put out an alpha gameplay video:

I'm really liking what I see there.

Same, this is the type of game I can play for a long time.

Considering that the mission they ran was made using the editor they're releasing with the game, I think it'll definitely have legs. Especially if it's easy for modders to create their own assets and import them into the editor.

That looks great. Not knowing much about Shadowrun, I find it impressive that they've integrated lore into gameplay features. That doesn't happen near as often as I'd like. Very glad I backed the project.

+1

Looking very good. I could potentially "lose" a lot of time to this game.

Must have this game!

Nice. May be a day one purchase for me, much like XCom was last year.

Makes me miss my tabletop Shadowrun days.

I wish I had the money to back it when it was up. Looks freaking sweet

I must've read that book cover to cover at least a dozen times... and I was never able to get a group together to play even once. I loved the SNES game, and keep looking for other games to scratch that magic+guns+hacking itch -- this game can't come soon enough for me.

Man, I have to say that I am impressed. Wishing I had backed the Kickstarter now.
