I kept a slice of bread and water down.

Yikes. If you ever want to talk about it, you know, to a sympathetic ear, visit me at 90.0000° S, 139.2667° W.

Dress warmly.

Spoiler:

Keep yer contagious ass away from me

One of my dearest friends just texted and informed me she's changed her mind about which school she'll be attending for her PhD program and will as such be staying local. Her decision is largely rooted in already having mentors at the institution in question, as well as how just generally being happy with one's living environment and extant social relationships tends to make the rigors of academic exertion more palatable. The former choice, though being a bit more prestigious, has also lost some funding in recent years, while the latter has been growing in reputation and she's thus potentially in a good spot in that sense.

So: happy friend is happy. And also not moving.

I sense possible romance...

Home repair/maintenance projects that get done with a minimum of fuss and delay.

Changing the oil in the mower and the belt on the vacuum cleaner aren't exactly building a new deck or re-roofing the house, but I got 'er done.

Time for steaks on the grill.

It isn't that kind of relationship. We checked a while ago, trust me.

The smell, flavor and texture of freshly baked bread. I suck as a baker and the bread I made today is still better than anything I can get off the shelf at the grocery store.

Mmmm, food.

Low-sodium turkey bacon, whole wheat bread, and 2 eggs fried in extra virgin olive oil. Breakfast: it rules.

New Orbital album, new Squarepusher album ... it's like my university days all over again. I just need a new Ninja Tune compilation album for completeness.

Cheers, Jonman, I had no idea that was on the way.

New Orbital album, right, WTF? I thought those dudes officially retired years ago. Let's get some new Prodigy, some new Shamen, and party like it's 1992. I'll get my comically enormous raver pants down from the loft.

The only Orbital song I know is that one from the Mortal Kombat film soundtrack.

Hiking; over the last few weeks I've finally gotten back into it with the help of meetup group which also has the benefit of helping me continue breaking out of my shell. Clocked in a 29km trail today <3

I had to make an unexpected trip to Wisconsin today, which annoyed me. But, while I was there, I bought upwards of a case of various New Glarus beers. So that makes me happy.

Hellz yeah!

Dear dubstep: Squarepusher was dropping the bass harder than you ever could since the late 90's. Suck it!

Oh oh oh. Things are happening. Scary things in Fallen London.

I have to say, even though it is totally the same skinner box as Mafia Wars, I really dig Fallen London. The focus on telling little stories rather than just gathering things for the sake of gathering them sells it really well.

Getting my sh*t together on the diet for more than a few days at a time.

You lie. We all know those pants are still in your dresser.

You don't understand. Nathanial was looking for a sugar mama.

What sort of PhD program is this that actually has potential for "sugar spouse" levels of income?

The honest truth is that I bought them at Goodwill about a year ago, specifically as ludicrous clothing to wear at Burning Man. I sewed EL-wire into them and everything. They are, in fact, in my loft, in the "Burner Box."

Less of a hole to start from in my case - I'm 5'10, and about 180 lbs. I just need to control my eating for a few months, long enough to get my fitness levels up to where they should be.

Beating Ranger Rick at chess (in Fallen London). I totally kinged that game.

Do you mean checkers? There is kinging in checkers.

Checkers? I was playing chess. You know the game with the edible board covered in pink and purple circles. Oh man, you should have been there. You would have been the third person not knowing what was going on. The other two clueless would have been myself and that guy standing behind you.

You know, Chess...

S'not a bad album, that. Little whimsical for my tastes, but what do you expect from a cover with chess on it?

We'll have to have a beer when I come out to Seattle, sometime, Man of Jon.

I'll bring the chessboard and bleepy music.

FTFY.

Love: Found out today that my car was built last week, and is currently on a ship heading to the USA. Hurrah! I will be anxiously watching the iceberg reports for the next couple of weeks.
