Polytron/Kokoromi's FEZ

I looked at Phil Fish's twitter and I was convinced it was one of those impersonation accounts, like EvilGarnett. If the game comes out and people won't shut up about it I'll probably check it out, but when the developer makes himself look like a giant asshole that immediately makes me less likely to buy his game.

Cautiously optimistic. The price is right at least.

I dig the aesthetic (both visually and musically) and the limited gameplay I've seen seems all right. However, I'm hoping it leans more towards Braid or Limbo than Super Meat Boy/VVVVVV in terms of controller-breakage.

Putting aside the silliness of judging a person's personality by their Twitter account, you folks realize this game was made by a whole team of people and not just Phil Fish, right?

Maybe it's not fair to judge him by his twitter, but you can't help but form an opinion of someone based on what you see / read / hear. I don't want to derail the thread so I'll not say anything more about it after this, but maybe he shouldn't be tweeting stuff like this (NSFW)

Also saying at IGDF/GDC. That was bad.

soundtrack up for preorder
edit: on listening to the samples, strikes a kind of Vangelis/Blade Runner soundtrack vibe.

You can listen to the whole track on spotify. It's pretty awesome. I can't wait till Friday.

Crap, double post.

Thanks for this - my indie soundtrack collection on Spotify has increased by one. For those interested, Swords and Sworcery, Minecraft and Braid also have their soundtracks up on Spotify.

Hey, Giant Bomb quick-looked it:

Reviews are popping up, too. Got to the end of the Edge one and was mildly surprised it didn't get a perfect 10. Gush central.

Yeah, I've made the decision that I'm not going to support Phil Fish in any way. Too bad for Fez.

Guess you can tell I'm kind of overly excited, but Phil Fish just tweeted that it'll release tomorrow morning about 9 AM Pacific time:

Which is of course right when I start work. Ah well.

As much as I agree about Phil Fish... there's quite a few other people that worked on Fez that you're punishing too.

The reviews are coming in pretty much glowing, I am getting excited about playing this tomorrow after work.

Sounds good, looks like I'll have a charming game to help wind me down from work tomorrow.

So I was lucky enough to not have work today, which is to say that I've been working at home. I've got to play Fez for a short bit, and I see the potential, and most of the polish. It's a shame they (he) couldn't get a stable framerate for release, but it's only when lots of things are happening, or when the camera is moving too much. Before I was able to play more, I actually got stuck on the first task you're asked to do. I've been all over the starting area, but can't for the life of me figure out where to look next. Hope a nice break will give me clarity.

An hour in and it's been mostly an adventure, with a few puzzles. I was just being careless before, missing a room I didn't explore. The scope seems to be vast, and reminds me of Castlevania. But instead of collecting specific items to see more of the area, you're on the same quest of collection.

The only thing I don't like are the constant beeps and boops in the map. Drives me crazy, and I don't understand the reason for leaving in something so repetitive to be annoying.

Why is that? If your referring to "Japanese games suck" comment, it was blown out of context by the games media. He apologize to the developer he said it to.

Bought it and played for about 3 hours with my sons. We had a BLAST with it. My oldest said it was "cooler than Portal". Seriously, a lot of fun!

He's just been kind of a dick in general for quite some time, in addition to that incident.

Generally I strive to separate the product from the people who made it. I'm buying it twice in protest to Tannhauser's protest.

Loving it so far. My only complaint is I tend to go down a rabbit hole of doors without completing an area and I get lost. I've got a ton of cubes now if I ever find my way back to that central door hub.

Right? So far the game hasn't been a challenge. I've really been enjoying the exploration and objective puzzles, which has been the meat of the game so far. Too much typing, not enough playing.

*grabs my Fez*

It is the culmination of every appearance or interaction I've seen featuring Phil Fish, he seems to be a completely unpleasant person. I don't want anything to do with him, much less supporting him financially or otherwise by buying his game.

Don't forget to buy two tickets for Indie Game: The Movie as well.

If anyone from NorthEast Ohio is interested, I know of a showing of Indie Game The Movie in Akron on May 24th. PM me for info.

Ok, more Fez time.

I'm only 20 minutes or so in, but it has sunk it's colorful claws into me deep. Playing this makes me feel like I'm wrapped in my favorite blanket, watching the snow fall outside with a warm cup of cocoa while tripping on acid.

It's awesome.

It is utterly amazing. I sat down with it a little before 9 and it is now 12:10 my time.

A tip to help out with exploration: a doorway with a door is generally one you haven't gone through yet (although the inverse is not necessarily true, i.e. not having a door doesn't mean you've visited it).

If I had one gripe, it'd be along the lines of what Switchbreak said: I wish the map let you fast travel to locations you've already been.

edit:
oh man, the rabbit hole goes deep:

Spoiler:

I came across a room that teaches you some of the numbers in the weird glyph language, and in another area there's a back wall texture on a room that's a QR code with the solution to some puzzle I haven't found yet. edit2: oh right. of course. (found a use for the QR code solution)

Played it for a couple hours so far. The exploration and environment are nice, but the game opens up drastically after the first area and I got lost pretty quick. Also the game seems buggy at times, with multiple crashes so far.

But man is it a beautiful game! I remember hearing Phil Fish say during Indie Game: The Movie that he wanted the game to feel like a pleasant walk outside. If that was his goal, then he absolutely nailed it.

Loved the

Spoiler:

3D tetris-shaped puzzle

that was at the end of one branch. Probably took me 20 mintues to figure that out. Half the time to even decypher what I was suppose to do, and the other half thinking, and then acting on my plan. If you gave me the summary for Fez, that puzzle would've been one of the first to come to mind. But as a player, I had to solve what the designer gave me.

Spend some time on it yesterday. Got about 10 cubes, some anti cubes and some other stuff.

Gotta say I would enjoy the game far more if it was more linear and there were not like 5 doors on every level leading to another level with another 5 doors...

At some point I just got lost and didn't even find my way back out so I just quit :/

Not sure if I'm even going to pick it up again.

All in all I'd say its a very good game with some minor technical flaws in the engine. Seeing that its very good but - at least in my opinion - nothing outstanding its even more unsettling how Mr. Fish obviously lost his mind over this game.
