World of Tanks: Catch All

FYI...They're having a B-day special. Enter this code to get a free day of premium.

TANKSBDAY

In public matches 3 is the max in a platoon (it would suck to have a teamfull against your group of pubs). You can only get more than 3 in those "team vs team" style matches (no been in anything like that myself).

Its also 5x weekend, so mount up!

Been putting in some serious time with this; before I have to pack and move next week. Been going up the US TD line; absolutely LOVE the M8A1. Got a five kill round with it tonight (mostly stolen kills, don't tell anyone). Going to jump between it and the T49 till I have the XP/Creds for the Hellcat. Wasn't impressed with the T49 at first, but now that it's almost fully upgraded it can take a pounding.

Also started to work on the German TD line. Love the side to side angle of the gun on the Marder II.

I have some free gold codes if anyone wants to start a new account. I made the mistake of creating an account then I couldn't use the free gold codes. Didn't feel like going through the hassle of creating another account on a different email.

Don't worry about the shell with your name on it, worry about the one addressed to: Occupant.

Map: Prokhorovka
Tank: KV (soviet heavy), with the infamous 152mm 'Derp' gun, loaded with HE rounds.

I'm leading a push up the west side, in the trees along the road, when I see a pair of heavy tanks waiting in ambush for me. Slam on the brakes, wait a moment for the gun sight to stabilize on the T1 HT heavy tank on the left. I can normally do more damage to the T1, so the KV heavy tank on the right wouldn't have been as good a choice. Lined up, sight is tight, fire!

It misses.

The round goes right through the trees between the two tanks. Which normally would be a bad thing, given the horrible reload time on the 152. Except...

What I hadn't seen was the Panzer IV medium tank between the two heavies. They must have been damn near touching treads, traveling in a tight pack. The HE round is an area of effect munition, so it will hit friendlies too close to the target. Well, for the first time I got to see the HE round hit more than one target. The 152 round hit the medium tank and utterly destroyed it. It also did roughly half damage to the T1 HT and the KV.

One round, one kill, two half dead heavy tanks running away.

Glorious.

Awesome! One quick question, please explain 'derp gun to me. I see it all over the official forums and think I get the reference (herp a derp, stupidly simple to use?).

It generally refers to that 122 or whatever dumb gun is the KV big slow loading gun.

The derp gun on the tier 5 KV has terrible accuracy and a 25ish sec load time... but it deals 910 damage with the HE round. It is so much fun I highly recommend the non-zoomed view in replays because the round is quite visible in the air

Pop around a corner, slam a 152mm shell into the back of an untouched Churchill heavy tank and watch it explode while you duck back around the corner.

Then tell me its a 'dumb gun'

Its the AutoCannon/20 of World of Tanks. Massive damage in a relatively short range attack with significant drawbacks. But once you learn to work with those drawbacks, the potential to deal noteworthy damage to _any_ tank, any tier, is quite appealing. Tier VI and below, if I don't oneshot you, then you are suddenly missing almost all your health, and unless you kill me before I get a second shot off, the odds are you are dead. Its just the sort of weapon I tend to enjoy, not for the general public, decidedly not a simple weapon, but I get results from it.

Derp gun is probably going to refer to that KV 152mm gun, derp in general will probably be referring to a gun intended to fire HE (like the 75mm on the M4, for example) or the ammunition. Typically, they don't use it to refer to the same shells fired from a SPG.

I love my derpy KV, so much so that I'm keeping it around, its got a crew that just hit 100% skill and are working on their first new skill, and its a money maker - even with the expensive shells.

All you need is one hit and cha-ching you paid for your tank and all the ammunition you are going to spend.

Really, few things in this game are as satisfying as when you take someone out in one hit.

Just started this up. Name is RobearGWJ.

My name is Biacksheep if you're ever interested in a platoon.. I don't have many low tiers, but I can buy one or two to run with you

I play as DonDGT.

So is there a GWJ group to join? Should I go Premium or just grind it out? Is there a better time in the tech tree advance to get Premium, or is it "early as possible"?

I'm actually having a blast with an Elite light tank. I gather that's part of the fun? Or am I wasting time somehow?

Is that really an "i"?

You'll want premium once you get to tier 6. Until then you advance pretty quickly and its not really needed.

Elite tanks allow you to earn credits and get "free xp." Free xp can be converted for gold allowing you to level even faster since you can apply it to any tank/mod you want. I mainly use it to automatically upgrade any tanks I buy so I don't have to play them stock.

Yes, Blacksheep was taken. BIacksheep in the interface looks like Blacksheep.

double post somehow.

The 107 is the true gun to fear on the KV. that thing is brutal @ tier 5.

If you see a Derper just keep moving till he shoots and misses you then go and kill him during his long reload.
do NOT play hide n go seek that will just give them a second chance to shoot you.

I play most evenings US time, Name there is Gegil

Oh, I don't know if anyone answered, but there is no GWJ clan. We do have enough people between this and all of my RL friends that play, but haven't been motivated enough up to put it all together.

Decent advice, except, as a KV you can't dodge worth crap, you are a big slow moving target. So, as a KV Derper, I aim for your tracks, and waddle around a corner to reload while you repair and try to give chase. Do return the favor, though, if you track him, the Derp can't duck and cover, and with your higher rate of fire the odds tip back in the 107's favor. Learning to reliably track is a good skill for any tank, really, not just the KVs.

Obviously, a KV Derp caught out in the open should bet that he's going to die to a KV 107. Not much hope there. Still, I mount a 152 by choice, tried the 107, wasn't impressed and happily went back to the derp.

How do you reliably Track someone? I try to aim for the front or rear drive wheel(s).

Tigerbill wrote:

you got it.

If you're using HE rounds, it is much easier to do though.

I'm trying to figure out when it's better to run AP rounds versus HE rounds. I wind up running HE rounds most of the time.

HE is ok for hitting thin-skinned tanks for massive damage (typically lower-tier-than-you), or really thick-skinned ones that you have no hope of damaging (you'll get critical "chings" for 0 damage).

I've just "elite-d" my PzerJg IV. I think I'll train the crew up higher before grabbing the JgPanther. I piss away enough silver in my matches using the T-43 . I'm liking the AMX 12t... mostly, but still find it too dang slow.

Wink, keep on plugging away at the 12T. I loved my 13-75 and 13-90

So I bit on this a couple of days ago. Working on my level 3 German TK for the tutorial mission. Just need the moneys. Pretty fun game. Would someone explain to me though, why on earth am I always joined into a game where I'm among the lowest 4 people? If I join with my level 1 tank(s) I'm stuck in a game with like 2 other level 1s and 10 level 2s. But if I join as level 2, then I'm stuck in a game with 12 level 3s and level 4s. WTF? Why can't I be the level 2 in a game with level 1s?

Next question: how do I buy more crew? Do I have to wait until my tutorial missions are done? One of my tanks lost its commander and I see no way to manipulate crew. They are darkened out for all my tanks.

Also, how do you bring up the message log that pops up in bottom right? Clicking on the flashing button indicating messages does not seem to have any effect.

If you look on the forums, you can see what tier tanks have a chance of getting into what tier battles.. TDs and SPGs will get thrown into much higher battles than your run of the mill tanks. Sometimes you will get put into games where you'll be the top tank as a Tier2, but most of the time, you should be somewhere in the middle of the pack.

For your crew, you can go to the barracks tab and recruit more crew if you like. The game doesn't 'permakill' your crew, so even if it says in battle you lost someone, they'll be available next game for you. If you want to save them in game and they die, you can purchase a first aid kit for 3k silver that you can use when someone dies. I didn't bother to do this until I got in to Tier 6 or so because it is prohibitively expensive on the early tanks.

The message button you're talking about I am assuming is in your garage... Clicking on it should just bring up game results and automated messages. Any messages from real people will add another tab at the bottom for you to click on and converse with. The speech bubble will be used to invite you into platoons, clan battles, or training battles.

Interesting. I did not see Barracks option anywhere. Maybe it's disabled until I finish tutorial. But my commander is definitely missing. The game said he got killed, and now that tank only has 2 people in it, in the garage. I suppose a new one will show up if I start a new game with that tank.

And yes, the message button is in the garage. Bottom right of the screen. I can't click on it. It's blinking, but clicking on it produces no results. Same as clicking on my crew.
