TERA Online (Now Free to Play) - Catch All

I wasn't going to care til' my character won't get deleted.

If everyone has the headstart (I will), we could aim to do our first session before launch day.

Yeah, I'd be good with starting during the open beta or the head start, since I've placed my order already.

I guess another important question is which type of leveling group did you want to do, Zenke? Meet up at set levels each week for specific content, or run the entire game as a group?

Depending on when we start, which type of leveling group, and whether I can snag the name "Zero" in the name reservation (unlikely, though, since I'll almost certainly be out at dinner when it starts), I may end up spending some time playing a sorcerer instead of an archer with the group, but either way I'll be RDPS. (It's a very complex matrix of variables -- but I wouldn't be me if I didn't vastly overcomplicate things for myself. :P)

The statics I've run with successfully in the past were the former.

Each week we set a level goal and aim to run a dungeon or dungeons. If some of us lag (and possibly at higher levels as levels become more onerous to acquire) we can use our sessions to get everyone to the right level band. TERA has the benefit of having BAMs as well as dungeons for groups to play around with. If we find ourselves lacking sufficient levels one week, we can go farm some BAMs / do the less sucky quests until we're in the right neighborhood.

Cool.

Yeah, that's the way we've done our WoW groups, but we did the other way with TOR and it was fun (albeit slightly more limiting) as well.

The way you described does work quite a bit better given the fact that the open beta will only allow one character per server -- this way our reserved name character can easily be the character meant for the leveling group while still being able to play a bit during the open beta (even if we don't start the group during the open beta).

EDIT:

Are we going to make a GWJ guild for this one? (Half Naked Ladies With Jobs?)

More like "Half Naked Girls with Panties"

Since it was the server mentioned for use in earlier betas, I'm going to suggest we use Serpentis Isle. Anyone have another preference?

I was reading through the forums and it seems that Serpentis may become the unofficial Oceania Server. Not sure what impact that will have, if any. Just thought I'd mention it. I'm perfectly content with Serptentis, but if we're thinking of somewhere else, I'd vote for Dragonfall as I know a few people considering starting there.

Well, given that we were only sticking with Serpentis since that's what was randomly chosen for the beta, I'd say that's as good a reason as any to go elsewhere.

Is Dragonfall good for everyone else, or is there any other info to consider?

As long as the peeps thinking of doing the static group all roll on the same server we're good.

Pipe up if you want to do the static group and still plan to play at launch!

(Besides Zero and Bean. You guys are loud enough already.)

I've been out of town for 2 weeks now but I'll be back in time for Open Beta and Headstart.

As far as server selection, yeah, Serpentis Island is the unofficial Oceanic Server and I'd suggest rolling somewhere else. Dragonfall seems like it will be a very active server, but Goon Squad will run there too. I don't have a problem with that, but I wanted to warn you first. I'd rather roll on Dragonfall knowing it will have other big guilds and that it will be very active. Since it's a PVE server, we should not run into any problems.

EDIT: Updated OP with some Beta info.

Yeah, I'd rather be on a well populated server, goons or no goons (and playing on the Goon Squad server for TOR wasn't a problem, so I don't see why it would be here).

Dragonfall it is then?

Hey guys, I got my preorder in for the game and have access to the head start.

It's been awhile since I posted but if there's anyone I'd want to play Tera with it'd be goodjers.

Not 100% sure what the static group thing is all about but count me in.

Don't know anything about their servers either so you guys pick and I'll make a character there.

I think we'll be on Dragonfall, Shazam.

Word of warning to everyone planning to reserve a character name tomorrow: there is a huge (3 GB+) patch waiting when you open the launcher, so you might want to open it before 7 PM tomorrow.

Still planning on playing this a bit when it starts, so count me in.

I'll be logging onto Dragonfall this evening as well.

Got my character made on Dragonfall.

Name: Blade
Race: High Elf
Class: Warrior

Probably not the optimal race/class combo but I love the high elf leather armor styling.

FYI we can't actually play the game until next Thursday the 19th for early access pre-orders.

Reserved character name Bean
Don't even remember what race/class I chose, as that will probably change when open beta starts on the 19th

- Is Party size 5 or 6?
- How many are interested in the weekly grouping?

I know its early, I just want to make sure once open beta starts that Im not playing a class that we wind up needing for the group and then get too far ahead

I created a Castanic Slayer on Dragonfall, named Aleera.

Bah, I was too late to get Zero. Anyway, as previously indicated I'll be playing an archer... or a sorcerer. Probably an archer. Definitely RDPS.

I'm going to play, but mainly late nights or on the odd day off. Will there also be a GWJ guild beyond the static group Idea?

I'm sure we'll make a guild. Not sure who will do it since being a guild leader is for suckers, but ultimately it will probably mostly exist as a convenient way to have a GWJ chat channel (since I doubt we'll have enough players to really do the guild vs guild stuff or serious endgame raiding).

EDIT: Also, not sure there will exactly be an "official" GWJ guild, since the folks who run the site seem to have decided that the game is for perverts.

EDIT 2: Holy sh*t, new guild name idea: Welcome, Perverts!

I like it. But probably not a good idea if we don't want to get harassed in game.

Pfft, take all the fun out of it.

In CBT4 I may or may not have created a guild called "To Catch a Predator" with an image of Chris Hansen as the guild logo.

I've registered to hopefully try the open beta, although I'm not sure at the moment if there is segregation of the US and EU communities as there is for Warcraft or City of Heroes. I tend to play MMOs with a Canadian friend and this does present as a problem for some games. For CoH, I have a US account, and that seems to work fine mostly.

For an 'action' MMO I imagine latency will be more of an issue, however ...

I've heard latency can be a big deal, but I imagine it is more of a deal on PVP servers.
All servers are located in Chicago (or a surrounding city) I believe. Hopefully when you try the open beta you are able to connect to the US and the latency is good for you.

I've been seeing a lot of character polls and archer is low on the list. Seems like sorcerers have more AOE, better escape and better mobility. Apparently archers big DPS comes from charging up skills which reduces mobility.

I have not played archer or sorc, I am just repeating what I read on the internet (that's always a good thing right?). It is possible the people making those comments could just be bad players. If not, I am sure it is something the developers will address if the game launches in North America and the ranged DPS is like 85% sorc and 15% archer.

I'd guess thats the intended design, honestly -- sorcerers have stronger AOE and mobility, archers have stronger single target at the opportunity cost of having to charge up. Of course, I could easily see it being the case that the sorcerer's style might just mesh better with the flow of the game.

In any case, my open beta character is an archer, but I'll probably play both to at least 10 or 15 and then decide which to continue on with. (Not sure I'm going to get to pay much this weekend anyway, though -- I have a ridiculous amount of sh*t going on. :|)

Archers are a lot of fun. I am not positive but i believe they have longer range than sorcerers.

Sorcerers have simpler targeting for their aoe but I think archers aoe is a neat mechanic. You basically hold down the fire button and swipe across enemies to target them. Then release the fire button and arrows fly to their targets. Yes, it is true that archers skills require them to be in place longer than other classes which increases the likelyhood of them being hit. But I think a lot of the opinions are jumping to conclusions and will probably even out once the community matures.

They've announced a ton of changes to the game for launch, including what sounds like a new starting experience. Which is awesome, because damn the one that's in there now is pretty damned boring.

Love MMOs, is this worth a look?
