The Witcher 2 Catch-All

Did they say what's in that 10GB? I don't want to read any press releases and such for fear of spoilers.

There's an extra 3/4h in chapter3, and apparently they've reworked some of the existing assets.

The GoG site says:

What's New in the Enhanced Edition:

Additional hours of gameplay: New major adventures set in previously unseen locations, expanding the story and introducing new characters, mysteries and monsters.

New Game Introduction and Cinematics: All new animations and cut scenes, including a new, three and a half minute pre-rendered cinematic depicting (... redacted for the extreme spoiler-phobe.)

Was this the video that took place on a boat? I think they released that months ago... Best CGI work I've ever seen.

My original Witcher 2 download was just under 10 gig, so wtf

Yeah, that's why I asked. They must have worked on a lot of original assets as well.

With the size of these updates it will be 1/10th of the price to rebuy the EE on disc rather than just downloading.

Start your pre-downloading of the EE patch: http://en.thewitcher.com/community/e...

edit: If you've got them, it seems you can shorten the download by moving the de0.* and fr0.* German/French language files out of the CookedPC folder so that the downloader doesn't detect them. I guess you might as well delete them as they'll be out of date without patching them.

On one hand it's awesome that they support their game so much. On the other hand it's kind of frustrating. I didn't finish my playthrough of this game until 6 months after it's initial release, and the chances of me completing another playthrough to tap the additional content is zero. The same could be said about the branching storyline as well I guess, as I'm unlikely to see the story from the other point of view.

I guess I just have really awkward buyer's remorse.

For this exact reason I'm somewhat glad I haven't gone past the tutorial yet. Now I'll just wait for this, and play it with all the additional content.

Thanks for the tip on the French and German audio assets, Scratched. I wish there was an easy option to say "I only want the English sound files", but this is good enough.

You don't have to see the other path. If you're happy with your one playthrough then so be it.

The other way of looking at it is there's something to come back to when you do want to later on. I strongly suspect there's a TW3 in the works a few years out, and I'm sure lots of people are going to do another playthrough then.

eBook (Nook/Kindle/etc.) versions of The Witcher: Blood of Elves is on sale for 3 bucks today at http://www.orbitebooks.com/ if anyone was interested (link takes you directly to Amazon/B&N, etc.).

I'm thinking of giving it a shot at that price.

Reading the first Witcher book, The Last Wish, right now. Having only played The Witcher 1, I enjoy it a lot for all the back story and the "aha!" moments complementing the games lore and the quirkiness. You can tell the books were translated differently than the games. Vizima for example is called Wyzim in the books. I also like Sapkowski's style of writing. Feel enabled, people!

The second book is about half as good, unfortunately.

I'll be reading paper books until my mom's+grandparent's bookstore closes. I'll consider putting The Last Wish on my list of things to read, but..meh.

The Witcher games did a great job of immersing me in the world, and I'm not feeling particularly drawn to jumping in again off a different diving board.

I am about halfway through The Last Wish. It nicely rounds out the backstory of Geralt and the world that Sapkowski created. The obvious example being the Adda story, it also explains why Geralt is called "the butcher of Blaviken" for example.
If you are expecting a literary revelation though, you'll probably be disappointed. The Last Wish is "only" a number of Geralt-focused short stories.

I figured something like that. I'll continue enjoying my way through my book pile. The video games were a great showcase of the fiction, and that's good enough for me.

And if you have a quiet 5-10 minutes, the Wikipedia article on The Last Wish summarizes the plots as well IIRC.

Really looking forward to the 360 version.

I need something new to take over the Dark Souls space.

I think you might be disappointed if you're going in expecting Dark Souls. Maybe you could say it's to Dark Souls what Mass Effect is to Gears.

I'm not expecting DS at all. I'm expecting a good dark fantasy, something good.

I'm expecting The Witcher 2.

I played the first Witcher for a bit, and liked it. However, I don't have a gaming PC and so I couldn't really enjoy it - it ran at like 15 FPS.

Be aware that it's not just more TW1, it's changed a fair bit, but still has the same roots.

It's funny how TW2 runs better than TW1 for me.
TW1 just runs like absolute crap.

The Aurora engine was pretty much beaten up behind a shed to get it running for TW1.

Scratched wrote:

My guess is that TW1 is more CPU dependent/bottlenecked than TW2. On my laptop with an ultra low voltage CPU, TW1 was not playable, but TW2 was just barely playable.

So this trailer for The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition got linked on a few sites, I assume to hype up its release on the 360.

I have to admit that makes me want to buy it.

Having just finished the first Witcher game and being right at the beginning of the second one I have two observations to make. One - the game is abso-f*cking ploughing-lutely beautiful. It's like reality got amped up to 11, everything is more vibrant and colorful. Two - Geralt is such a badass I swoon every time he does something. Anything at all. I feel like a schoolgirl having her first crush. I'm not entirely sure it's healthy for a grown, married man to feel this way.

Hurray! I uninstalled and tried a reinstall after my previous attempts failed on a rebuilt system and it worked. Downloading the patch pre-download now. Can't wait, and I'll probably just start my 2nd playthrough over since they added a bunch of new stuff.

Scratched wrote:

:D

Reinstalling TW2, can't wait for my second playthrough next week.

Anyone heard anything about the steam version (overlay) being fixed?
