I grabbed one of those keys. And an Alpha Key for Raiderz.

I am now one of those awful beta-MMO guys. "Oh, I got in before the messed it up!" That's what I'm supposed to say, right?

I was sent some codes for free beta access. PM me if you can sully yourself enough to play this game.

Send them to Oily, ELewis, and Cheeto. Serve them right for peer pressuring us into playing TOR.

Only half joking, really. Specific questionable character art decisions aside, I agree wholeheartedly with Zenke that this game has great potential to be a fun group questing/leveling experience. However, group questing/leveling requires a group.

I spent time in the last closed beta and got into this upcoming one as well. The combat controls grew on me quickly and I liked the combo chains you could set up. I look forward to checking out some ranged classes to see how the lock on abilities work this weekend.

Story and quest wise, there is really nothing new here. I found myself enjoying the combat, animations and art designs enough that I am looking forward to seeing more this weekend.

Sharing some extra friend codes for Beta 5 - first come, first serve:

Bean old bean! You have any interest in doing a static group thing after launch? Not a lot of commitment, just a once a week thing.

Hey hack! What roles are needed in this static group?
My times in beta so far have me interested enough to give it a try for at least 1 month and I am sure a static group of people hanging out could easily keep my interest past that.

My bow will be available, should you need it.

I'm thinking of healing? And I'm guessing Zero is going to do an Archer.

Other than that I dunno if we've talked roles yet. We'll get more detailed as we get closer to launch at the end of the month.

Remember open beta starts on the 19th and if for those that preorder, open beta characters roll through early access and finally into live.

How have you found healing so far? I messed around with priest and mystic, but only solo endeavors. Did not get to try and heal anyone. Curious how challenging/fun/frustrating it is to heal by having to aim and have lock ons and what not.

I got a key during PAX, but sort of doubt my laptop can run this. I also won't have a very good connection until early May.

And I'm guessing Zero is going to do an Archer.

Yeah, probably. I did actually try the first couple levels of a warrior, a slayer, and a sorcerer just to see what the basic feel was there, but archer definitely was the one that felt right for me (warrior had some potential too, though).

I dabbled with the priest, mystic, lancer and slayer. Lancer definitely had some survivability, but solo'd slow. The slayer ripped through everything, it almost felt unfair at times.

I heard there are going to be some warrior and lancer changes, where their defensive moves (dodging and blocking respectively) are going to use stamina instead of mana. This should allow them to use more special attacks as defensive moves won't deplete mana, but they will now have to keep their eye on another resource bar.

Lancer is definitely the premiere 'sword' and board tank. Loved the way it felt when I played, even slow soloing. Massive and juggernautastic.

Priest healing is ... unique.

There's a lot of movement and catching people in circles on the ground. Plus, there's a weird aggro mechanic where attacking the mob (instead of pure healing) drops your hate. It's essentially to space out your heals, but for healers attacks actually drop hate instead of increase it. Madness.

I'm looking forward to the challenge, assuming nobody else wants to do it more.

Im in for Lancer, Mystic or Priest. Could grab a DPS if those three are not needed.
I'll likely level a pure DPS class on non group nights and prefer to take one of the classes more reliant on group play for our sessions.

I definitely can't make Wednesdays. Would prefer Mon, Tues, Thurs or Sunday, but could make do with Saturday if that worked best for everyone else.

As the time gets closer, let me know which night and which class the group is lacking.

No berserkers huh?

They definitely take some getting used to (more like struggling really) but can be just as powerful as the slayer and warrior when you get their narrower timing down. As a solo player I gravitated towards the slayer due to its agility over the berserker and its power and range over the warrior. But I bet in groups, the berserker will shine much more than the other two.

I didn't get to check out the beserker. I did get to run the first instance and had a beserker in the group who seemed to be doing very well.

I've heard that warrior DPS dips lower than slayer/beserker eventually, though I have not played either so I am just repeating what I've read off the forums (which can be dangerous!).

This is probably true even if only the weapon reach is much longer with the berserker and slayer.

And as I had mentioned in an earlier post, the berserker can apparently one shot kill enemies in PVP.

On top of weapon reach, I think part of the warrior DPS seeming light (when compared to beserker/slayer) is that the warrior can tank as well. Warrior sounds like the toughest class to fully learn, but seems like it could be pretty rewarding too.

The time has come to choose a GWJ server, as the schedule for name reservation has been released (Friday the 13th at 7 PM PST, for the click-lazy).

Assuming we're going with the GWJ standard of a PvE server, our options are:

PvE servers wrote:

Arachnaea
Blightwood
Dragonfall
Freeholds
Frost Reach
Serpentis Isle

Since it was the server mentioned for use in earlier betas, I'm going to suggest we use Serpentis Isle. Anyone have another preference?

Sounds good to me. If KT is still following the thread might be worth putting in the OP.

They're adding something that has no business being omitted from an mmo prior to launch to the game! Good stuff, this.

FIXED.

That is just a general statement and not a singling out of TERA. Why this and area loot isn't a standard and not a whizbang marketing bullet point going forward, I'll never understand.

I am going to try to get into open Beta. If anyone has like Bonus Keys to pass out with a pre-order I would appreciate one.

I don't think I am going to make this a main MMO of mine, but I do love Korean Style environmental graphics. Since this was programmed by a large group of individuals who worked on Lineage II I feel it's at least worth testing if I can get a week free.

The time for needing beta keys is over -- the open beta is just that, completely open. You can find the details on getting set up here.

Agreed! 100%.

Open beta runs from 4/20 through 4/23 (starts 4/19 for those that preordered).
Allowed only 1 character slot per server with a level cap of 32

Headstart (preorders only) run from 4/28 through 4/30
Allowed 8 characters per server with a level cap of 38

Launch is on May 1

Is the leveling group looking to start during the headstart phase or not until after launch?
With only 1 character per server during open beta, I think starting the leveling group then would be a mistake.
