Borderlands 2 Catch-All

You haven't needed two cards for PhysX for a long time. You can offload it to another GPU if you have one installed though.

Oh? That's cool and good to know

It looks like they are using the same engine and just adding some extra eye candy stuff. I just hope they take the time to optimize it properly because Borderlands performance was always terrible in certain areas.

I was planning on getting a couple GTX 680s when they are readily available and they have 3 or 4 GB versions, so hopefully that happens before this game comes out.

Want, want sooo much.

7 minutes of gameplay.

Woohoo!

I want this game so bad I'm barely restraining myself from frantically humping my monitor right now.

Me likey!

September seems so far away, now.

Ah, go for it. Nobody's watching!

One thing I noticed from that video right off the bat: dude reloaded his gun. IIRC in the past they've said that there was one brand of guns that you'd just throw away and regenerate, but then at one point they implied you'd do that with all guns, and they seemed to be disposing of guns left and right in all the trailers, and it was just kind of... weird. So, good to know that's only on some weapons.

I am gonna play this game so hard.

"So what we wanted to do for Borderlands 2 is... we really wanted to reward the role-playing guys much more for digging into those skill trees, and finding out all those nuances and different tricks ... you can get much more efficient better ways to kill enemies."

Um. I do not think this man understands what "role-playing" is.

Not super important to this game (I do not expect people to grab BL2 hoping for deep characterization), but still amusing.

Gearbox is going to be at PAX East, and I plan to grab a developer and demand playable Patricia Tannis with an attack Claptrap as her special ability. I'll let you know if they acquiesce to my unreasonable demands!

Also, I'm looking forward to playing the demo. That too.

I don't remember seeing anything that implied that all guns would be one-time use (non-reloadable). I've always understood it to just be one certain gun manufacturer. I'm curious to see how that plays and what they'll do to those "throw-away" guns to make me want to use them at all.

All of the guns are generated by some sort of matter-fabricator for which you acquire blueprints.

The disposable ones, the "reload" is replaced by "throw away and fabricate a new one". The one you throw away explodes, dealing damage based on how much ammo it had left.

So it's not really as different as it sounds. It's more or less just a different reload animation, with a built-in grenade.

Why would you not want to use one? The way they've been described so far, they're basically the same as any other gun except with a different reload animation and the fact that the thrown gun will explode if there's any ammo left in it.

Totally wrong move. Some guys don't even want to play all the classes. Releasing content as DLC is better.

According to the rumour, it's pre-order DLC as well, exclusive for 60 days. But then according to GT, it's not pre-order, it's just going to be late because it's only a concept now, and it's going to be free.

I read the Kotaku article and watched the video from PAX, and the impression I got was that if you preorder, you'll get the Mechromancer for free when it's released 2-3 months after BL2's release. Otherwise it will be available for purchase.

That's why DLC is optional, Larry. I thought that their previous strategy of releasing nothing but new areas was totally the wrong move, whereas releasing new classes (or loot mods) would have been the right move.

But, uh... here's to hoping they move away from the pigtails. Never been a fan.

EDIT: One of the articles I read said you can get new custom heads for your characters, so... just give me one without pigtails? I guess? But how is that going to work for ZER0, whose main character trait is a holographic projector on his/her head?

So after joking about demanding an attack Claptrap basically since this game was announced, they announce a new class that apparently has an attack Claptrap. And she's a female class with robot parts.

I don't think this news could please me more, honestly. I don't care if it's free or not, I WILL play as this character.

Borderlands 2 had a sweet setup at PAX East with a giant statue of the four classes. We didn't bother demoing it because the line was long and we figure it'll play about the same as the original, but thankfully it wasn't a closed setup so you could actually watch other people play. It looks pretty much as you'd expect Borderlands to look, but thankfully they are switching up the environments a bit.

Borderlands 2 gets collectors edition treatment:

kotaku wrote:

There will be two tiers of special editions. The "Deluxe Vault Hunters Edition" at $99, gets a Marcus Kincaid bobble head. He's the weapons supplier with the lothario accent who narrates the first game. The second, an "Ultimate Loot Chest Edition" (pictured above) delivers you a stylized Borderlands loot chest with all the goodies packed inside. It doesn't open up with hydraulics—it's more like a jewelry box, but it matches a community suggestion as best it could. More goodies and premiums in both editions will be announced later.

BAZILLIONS OF SKINS

Depending on quality, which collector's editions aren't usually known for, I have to say that Loot Chest is awfully tempting.

As big a Borderlands fan as I am, considering that the bobble head edition is $100, which is the cheaper of the CEs, I bet the loot chest CE will be $130–$150. I can easily resist both of those. I just want a new Borderlands, and I want the Mechromancer to be a free pre-order bonus, regardless of where you purchase your pre-order.

So true, just let me geek out a little in ignorance! Geez!

I just noticed that Gamestop got some exclusive pre-order content. Grrr...

Hrm... yeah, I really don't like pre-order exclusives. But it is going to be a Steamworks game, right? So that's ok, right?

As much as the game looks like... more Borderlands, I really hate the notion of how they're handling the pre-order exclusive stuff. It's essentially getting people to confirm to something, and make you feel like you're missing out if wait and see and get it after launch. It reminds me of the DA2 'signature edition' preorder, but at least 2K/Gearbox aren't doing the 2 months in advance thing. You can buy it day one and be 'behind' someone else.

New video from PAX. It shows trading.

I've failed at enbedding. Too many forward slashes, etc!!

If the pre-order bonus is for GameStop is just going to be arena battles then awesome, awesome, awesome. This part of the Mad Moxxi DLC was absolutely the least enjoyable/engaging of the first game's full life cycle. It would be surprising if anyone would actually find that to be an incentive at all. That it could be a pre-order exclusive is an anti-incentive, so great. I can easily be happy to ignore that.
