SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion

Yeah, that game was very much like a Three Stooges sketch.

Hrm, I can't help but notice that their 720p stream this time is a very noticeably lower bitrate than it was at IPL3. I'm glad they kept the higher framerate, but the bitrate is borderline GSL HQ VOD quality, which is to say more than clear enough to watch but not at all up to the standard they set with their previous event.

*Nestea looking waaaay better here than he ever has at a foreign tournament before.

*No HD/Painuser, that overlord will not see that Pylon. It's not even close. Shutup. Ugh. Can Doa/Apollo just take over now and cast the rest of the event?

*Woo, Wolf/Khaldor on the secondary stream Time to mute Painuser/HD.

Same for me as well. I've got the liveu and main stream muted and I'll bounce between those two if nothing is going on with wolf/khaldor.

Tricia Sugita (She goes by Megumixbear, runs her own monthly tournaments, etc) is giving a really solid interview to Nestea right now on the main stream. It's amazing to have an interviewer who actually follows the scene and has some real game knowledge to bring to the interviews. And Smix is a better Korean translator than everybody else they've ever had. She's smoother and more natural at the translation than anyone that's been at any other events. It showed at MLG Cbus and it shows here.

*A Top 10 NA GrandMasters player 2-1'd TeriousPrime in the open bracket. 18 year old girl that goes by Scarlet.

First game Stephano vs. WhiteRa is pretty good.

Poor kid is so nervous. Haha, TeamLiquid deleted her earlier fan club post. It's going to stick this time around.

Was that... a HotBid interview with no trolling? Are we still on earth? Am I dead?

Bumblebee looks pretty frustrated.

Edit: Apparently I can't embed worth crap.

Free 480p feed is pretty decent to watch.
Marineking vs White-Ra.... I want to be pro Ra...but think that Marine might win though

Don't kid yourself. There's no might there unless MarineKing doesn't play his best game. If he's even close to as good here as he has been over the last couple months he'll 2-0 WhiteRa without much problem.

Just use that letter/number code at the end that starts with J, delete the rest of it, should embed fine.

Incontrol doing a commercial, making me giggle.

Also; MKP doesn't seem to be taking the games entirely seriously.

Yeah, not sure what that last game was all about.

MKP is making some bizarre decisions in game 3. This is really weird. White-Ra may very well come out on top of this afterall.

*Nevermind. Battle micro plus the constant conga line of reinforcing units and an overconfident push outward from White-Ra and the game slants pretty heavily back toward MKP.

Yeah, White Ra kinda threw it away after that one big push. Too bad, he could have sat back and build up way quicker after he took out Marine's forces

Tricia asking the tough questions in an interview again

WHY IS THIS WOMAN NOT AT EVERY MLG? Or just tournaments in general. All the tournaments.

Seriously. It's almost like having a small cute female version of Artosis up there asking detailed questions about strategy and timings.

*Scarlett 2-0's Ddoro and moves on to Winner's round 3. I guess this has already become the underdog story of the tournament.

*Stephano goes "MarineKing who?" and smashes his way through game 1. Yikes.

HotBid was a total boss in that interview. Kind, self-deprecating, encouraging. Good stuff. He's not ruining eSports.

Agree about Tricia, and what's that you say? Stephano vs MKP game 2? I'm totally in. Switching back and forth between LoL and SC2 for the good games - this definitely qualifies.

MarineKing ties it up and they go to game 3, which I think is what we all wanted anyway

Yeah, after seeing game 3, I wanted a game 3.

Spoiler:

MKP just so solid.

he is on a roll for sure. Not sure why there are two ladies for an interview. Get rid of the one just speaking English...works for me. He is only looking at the other one anyway lol

I can see a point in that. Not that the interviews are all that high standing, but yeah, I've seen some that I thought 'omg...please stop already'.

For the same reason there's almost always two people there for interviews with Koreans. Tricia is the actual interviewer. Sue (red shirt) is just the translator. She doesn't have nearly as much game knowledge as Tricia, who is singlehandedly the reason the interviews at this event are way better than the usual repetitive "HOW DOES THAT WIN MAKE YOU FEEL" substance-devoid junk we get from interviewers at every other event.

I like DjWheat and JP and everybody else just fine, but none of them give a post game interview that typically has any real value or information to it. It's always the same two or three generic questions over and over again.

Also, do you want the person asking the questions to also be giving the answers? The translator makes the interview flow better.

It seemed relevant. As much as I tend to hate Destiny he does occasionally say something at least slightly funny.

Also: only 5 foreigners remaining in the open bracket. Hawk, the winner of Select/Sase, Huk, Illusion, and Scarlett.

Illusion spanked Zenio 2-0. Vile having a pretty good showing as a team so far.

Question from Forever Bronze - how good are you if you're top 10 Grand Master on the NA server? Good enough for "on any given Sunday" kind of play? Could knock anyone off if they're not playing their best? Or is the rest of the field now aware she has some skill, and they won't get surprised by her?

Typically the thought is that NA GM is not as good as European GM, which is in turn not as good as Korean GM. But that doesn't mean there won't eventually be one player that ends up being an exception to the rule.

But yeah, at that level all it will really take is just a few mistakes and a game could go either way no matter who's playing.

*Scarlett just stopped a huge gateway+colossus attack by Oz in game 1 of their match on the secondary stream. Awesome hold.

Cool, thanks for the Scarlett tip. Was watching Puma - MC game 1

Spoiler:

Puma forgot to get Stim, didn't start it until 20 minutes in when both sides were maxed. Oops.

And she takes game 1 against OZ.

If a team hasn't picked up Scarlett almost immediately following this event there's something wrong with the world.

Damn.

Spoiler:

Scarlett is going to walk out of here with an offer to play on a team.

*Edit* Haha, yeah, should read carefully before I post What Thin J said.

Hot damn, Scarlett. Hot damn.

Happy to see any new face perform this well. Taking a game from Oz? Solid.
