Non-game Android Apps Recommendations Catch-All

@ilduce620
I've been using Tweetcaster. I have it linked to my Facebook account and 2 of my twitter accounts but for some reason when I go to accounts now I dont see a way to add another facebook account. Must have been then taken away.

I tried it awhile back and it seems like they now have "Tweetcaster" and "Friendcaster," as separate apps. Perhaps I'll try again, though. That's one of the few alternatives to Seesmic and Hootsuite I can find.

Woot @FBB.
@LM I took advantage ot that too.
Shortly afterwards Dropbox came out with an update where you get auto photo uploads (like Google +) but it uploads the full size image.
They also give you an additional 500mb storage when you upload the first pic.

I can see that filling up fast so Dropbox better come up with more space for thier free users, or Box better expand on thier usefulness and integrate with disktop/phone as easily as Dropbox.

Actually you can get 5GB from Dropbox by uploading 4.5 GB of photos and 500 MB of video. That's on top of the 2GB free account.

um, upload 4.5 gb of photos? That's crazytalk!

I just took a couple folders of photos and copied them to my phone in to the camera folder and then plugged it in while on wifi... 1 free gig so far and uploading. My guess is it will be done by tomorrow morning and I will have over doubled my space.

I found RingDimmer in a list of recommended apps on Android Police. It claims to adjust ring tone for ambient sound level, so it's always loud enough to hear but never loud enough to alarm you or others nearby.

I only put it on yesterday, so too early to tell if it makes a big difference to my life, but I like the concept anyway.

That sounds interesting. What's the verdict?

sorry if you already posted and I missed it.

No, I haven't posted a report.

I wasn't impressed. It did tend to reduce ring volume when things were quiet, but it didn't seem to increase it when there was ambient noise, or at least not enough that I never missed a call. It also reset some of the notification settings in ways I didn't like, and didn't seem to have a way to override them (I like to have vibrate always on, and it liked to turn it off).

My tablet has been uploading to dropbox for the last day and a half and I am up to 3.5 gigs more.

Here's another one that might come in handy for you overseas people and Fire users: APK Downloader.

If you delete the 4.5GB of photos, do you lose the space?

edit: No. Works from the computer too if you install a beta build. http://lifehacker.com/5881692/get-up...

FYI it was changed from 5gb to 3gb as of feb 23... bummer.

Instagram is now available on Google Play.

Understatement of this phone generation ... so like, the last past two minutes.

First thing I did when I got a second handed 3GS, installing instagram. Just love it
Will install it on my HTC now as well.

So Instagram is...what exactly? A nice set of filters with some social sharing? I've got it now, but I'm not getting the big deal, honestly.

I think it's more about the social sharing than the filters (at least once the filter novelty wears off). It's basically Facebook with just picture updates.

That's it?!?! Yeesh, not getting the hype at all.

Anyone know of a good way to back up my Galaxy S II automatically? I recently replaced mine because the other one was lost, but now I am thinking I want to back up my texts (well the photos more specifically) and my stored photos and videos I shot with the phone. Any recommendations?

MyBackup Pro is what I used for backing up before rooting my Nexus. It worked well for me.

I also do not fully understand the hoopla around Instagram.

It's a big deal for people that used it a bunch with their Iphones. Android already had a few good photo/sharing apps like camera zoom fx, etc.

I tried it out... it's a nice quick way to dress up a photo and socialize it. It's certainly not the awesome and essential app that it's hype suggested though.

Yes, this.

That's what I thought after playing Angry Birds for the first time.

I read on Calcalist (local economic news site) that the Master iPhone race is complaining about the invasion of Android peasants.

Whoah.

This quote was particularly telling:

ew android users can have instagram, I don't feel special anymore

Lady, handing someone money for a product does not make you special, no matter what what the maker claims. It makes you a customer, not a Special Enlightened Being.

The people creating the products? They might qualify. But not you.

Wow just wow!

Not that it was weakening but, that just renewed my hatred of most things Apple due purely to there customers.

iSnobs are a special breed.
