Spartacus War of the Damned

I just blew through the entire season in the past week. Gah, this show is like crack.

Yeah I know who you meant, I'm just saying that just because the character is dead doesn't mean they won't get a fair amount of screen time.

I know what you're getting at, but don't think it's relevant to what I said at all. Characters have so far appeared pretty much only when necessary. If we get a second season I'd guess we'll see some of Lucy Lawless and thedudefromthemummy in the first episode or two in flashbacks or whatever and after that we'll be done with them.

I'm guessing half to two thirds of the episodes.

Finished the finale.

Spoiler:

Huge. Carnage. They just offed half the leads and a chunk of the supporting cast. However, it was wickedly entertaining. The final scene with Spartacus and the gladiators coated with gore, standing over Batiatus' body with blood pooling up to their ankles was very, very cool. Kind of reminded me of Dragon Age, come to think of it.

Here's hoping the actor being Spartacus has a full recovery, and I can't wait for the second season.

Just watched the episode where the boy is molested and Spartacus has to kill his friend. Hmmm I'm not sure if that situation repeats because I'm a little behind. But this would be the first time it happens. Anyway I love this show.

Just passing along some news I saw. Since it's likely the 2nd season will be delayed because of Spartacus' cancer treatment, Starz has decided to make a 6 episode mini-series prequel. It's going to focus on the ludus and the rise of House Batiatus. It's filming over the summer so will likely air sometime in January. I'm just looking forward to more of Batiatus' exclamations and insults. Jupiter's c*ck!

That's awesome. I thought Batiatus really helped to make this show fun. I welcome more of him!

Just finished off this season. Thought the ending was fitting for this show. Glad the brat got off by a girl. The mini series sounds cool but I really hope the main actor is able to come back for another season. Of coarse I hope he gets better just to get better.

I just finished this. It starts out sorta cheesy, especially watching Sparatacus act like a dumb butt for 3 episodes or so, but I felt it improved quite a lot throughout the season.

Crixus started out as a schoolyard bully, but he turned out to be honorable, in the gladiator sort of way. Varro was an interesting character, and honestly more interesting than Spartacus' wife (although inferior bewbs). And I loved how Spartacus just man-handled those Roman soldiers with only practice swords in Ep12.

Just an update I saw, but they have re-cast the lead since Andy Whitfield withdrew, the new guy's name is Liam McIntyre. Should start production on season 2 by the spring.

That's a real bummer about Andy. Never heard of this guy but he looks the part well enough.

Oh, and the 6 episode prequel starts this Friday!

Really sorry about Andy Whitfield. I heard he's having a tough fight against cancer.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena is now on and you can get it on netflix also. I haven't watched the first episode yet.

I watched it, and it was pretty good. If you liked Blood and Sand, then you should like this one.

I've watch the first 2. Really liking the Batiatus character in this.

I went to nbc.com tonight to stream the NFL game and saw this headline: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/44480481

After being diagnosed with lymphoma 18 months ago, Andy Whitfield died today

To quote XKCD, "Man. F*ck cancer."

Well that is sad news.

Well the second season or is this the third season, hmmm whatever didn't start off so well. I don't really care for the new guy and kept thinking who the hell is that. Plus they changed some other characters so it took me a moment to figure out who they were playing. Also the special effects looked kind of bad and way to much slow mo. I don't need to see guy jerking off in slow mo. The second half was a lot better. The effects were better for some reason and the acting was better. I wonder if different people directed the first and second half.

Still lots of blood and nudity so if you like that sort of thing you'll probably enjoy the show. Oh yeah incest also. If you like incest I'm sure there will be some down the road. And who doesn't like incest. Communist that's who.

Yeah, I'll give it time to grow on me, but at the moment Krixus is the main character I'm watching. I think I may see a seed of the setup for how they can follow the history of Spartacus' army being free and clear until Krixus decided to head back south.

This has gotten a lot better. I'm still not completely sold on the new guy playing Spartacus (Andy Whitfield's absence is felt in pretty much every episode) but he's gotten a lot better, or at the very least I've just gotten more used to him.

But regardless, the writers do that thing that I often wish writers of other shows would do. You know the thing where the plot actually moves forward on a regular basis. I still insist that with any of the big network TV writers behind this the story arc of that first season would have taken four times as many episodes and I would have stalled out watching it.

Just like season one and that shorter prequel season they did, I find myself really looking forward to new episodes because they consistently move things forward.

And of course it's still just delightfully trashy and completely proud of it.

Involves latest episode

Spoiler:

Oenomaus should have smashed Egyptian dude. Comon, he trained three arena champions and was destroying Spartacus and Crixius simultaneously during training for Theocoles.

Spartacus thread arise!

Well the final season is just a couple weeks away but not sure I'm up to paying for Starz to get it. I'm just starting to catch up on Gods of the Arena and like how they've toned down the 300 style over the top slow mo fights.

Anyone still into this series?

I'm caught up on it and awaiting S4. I didn't realize it would be the final until I was poking around their site this weekend wondering when the season starts (1/25).

Well, the story of Spartacus has a set beginning, middle, and end so there's not really much more they can squeeze out of it. I'm surprised they managed to get 3 seasons out of it and keep it entertaining (4 counting the prequel season, but that really didn't have anything to do with him). That said, of course they don't want to let a good thing go, so apparently this season will be introducing a young Julius Ceasar which they are hoping to spin off into it's own series after this is done.

New Spartacus tonight. They wage war on zombies this season.

Oh boy if you like watching sons rape their mothers this episode the latest episode is for you. If that isn't your thing this episode is going to suck. Oh if like boardgames and don't like mother rape there were more boardgames than rape, so there's that.
