X3: Terran Conflict

Ah, that was mine too, it's pretty great. (Urge to play... rising...)

I preferred the "Final Stats 1.5" myself. That one is my modified version.

Thanks for sharing Quintin! I've been muddling my way around space and was happy when I cracked 2 million credits. Then I watched a set of walk though vids and realized how paltry of a sum that is (as if the prices for some ships wasn't enough of a clue)

Yeah, the spreadsheets are tremendous resources and it's a shame the original links went dead.

I'm doing a mission to deploy 3 laser towers. Problem is there is only one at the local station and I can't figure out how to deploy it. Do i have to go find the other 2 and can someone tell me how to deploy them?

You have to search for them in the systems you already know. It can be quite a PITA. They are sold in many stations though so depending on the type of satellite they should be relatively easy to find.

As for deploying, just eject them where you want them

PAR

I keep trying and trying to get into this game and it keeps kicking me in the nuts.

I tried a year or so ago and flew around aimlessly a bit before deciding that I utterly hated the way the game controlled. I vowed that this was a game I would play with a flightstick.

I ended up finding a good deal on a joystick awhile back and picked it up but hadn't tried this game with it yet until last weekend. After much wrangler of logitech drivers (seriously FU for not letting me calibrate my effin' joystick with your POS drivers Logitech) I finally get a cold beverage and settle in.

First off I simply love the way the game plays with the stick. Sooooo much better. I was rarin' to go! See, I've played a lot of Eve online and (yes I know there is a warning against this in theOP) this game seems as close to a single player Eve as you can get.

I go through the tutorial, fly around a bit basking in the glory of the slightly dated yet beautiful graphics and I'm ready to get my space career going!

Ah, the tutorial is guiding me to this starbase I can dock at!

*sets autopilot*

*ship flies to the base and....doesn't slow down. Or dock. Apparently "autopilot" means "cruise control" because my poor ship flew directly into the space station, bouncing off it once and blowing up in a fiery display of failure.*

Game Over

I sadly unplug my joystick and go back to playing Amalur. But one of these days......ONE of these days...I am going to play this game. This and Dwarf Fortress are the two games I refuse to give in to because of brutal learning curves.

My goal by the end of 2012 is to actually survive past the tutorial. (or what serves as one)

I honestly think that this game is so similar, yet so different from Eve that my experience of playing Eve has made it harder to learn X3 than it should be.

This is why I've continually recommended a joystick for this game.

Also, autopilot is terrible at the start. I think it actually improves when you get nav software upgrades. I remember it killing me a lot early on but a hundred hours later, not so much.

This has probably been said before, but after reading 86 pages of X3, I wish I would have found this game and forum two years ago.

I picked up the TC/AP steam bundle in January. Started with AP, but then realized I should have begun my addiction with TC. (IMO Stock Market is pretty much a cheat with SETA). Started over in TC as Terran Defender and have not looked back since.

My only question is how do you raise Pirate faction without ticking off other races? Specifically raising Yaki.
I'm on their KOS list since I pretty much leveled up combat and gained money by forcing bails and killing pirates.

It does not seem to follow the same process as the main races ala border sectors working for that race, until rank is high enough to turn blue.

I want need access to the sweet sweet IBL forges.

Cheers

I believe that the main (only?) way to raise your rep with pirates is to trade with them at their stations. Mainly space weed, alcohol, and slaves. Weapons are often for trade as well.

Building up Yaki reputation from the negative range is really hard. You can get reputation boosts from killing their enemies in their sectors, and they'll offer missions at their stations to people they don't hate too much, but if you've killed a lot of them you may not be able to get to that point.

Pirate rep is easier, because pirate bases will usually let you dock as long as you haven't attacked that particular base. Pirates and Yaki can show up in stations belonging to the main race, offering missions. (You can recognize them by their portraits or, sometimes, by what they want done.) Taxi missions are good; if you find somebody asking for a ride to a pirate base, take the job.

Thanks Yonder/misplacedbravado.

I broke down and had to see where I ranked with the Yaki. If it was -5 with the Yaki I was going to give up trying. However, after some browsing and peeking into the *cough* debugging. I found out I'm sitting at -3, which is doable (as I can finish this during hub gathering).

Looking into this more ...
1. Kill enemies in their sector without damaging rep with core races = lucky with Kha'ak or Xenon in their sectors.
2. Hire Pirate to hack Yaki station.

What is this hacking thing? don't think I've ever come across it.

Do pirates buy weed/booze from my factories if they are red? I wouldn't think so, but that's why I'm asking.

edit - yoda speak.

I watched Grubbers YT video ("I hate Borons and I start the game as a Boron killing racist pirate") and I pretty much agree with him. I have wife and kids and a job, I love X3, but the pure trading path is just toooo time consuming, I need to go the fighter path therefore. Hey, Grubber promoted GWJ and tadaaaa, now I'm here

As a side note, my basic interest (currently) why I'm here is the social aspect of gaming. We all know the problem of balancing real life, wife, kids, jobs and game... In a way it's impossible to balance...

OK, X3: Using keyboard and mouse for fighting (I use the mouse control mode) is a bit of a PITA. WASD for dodging, mouse for the direction - I have no hand left for looking around while keeping the direction, the numbers on the number block... They are too far away. Therefore I typically do not look to the sides. I wish it worked like in Arma II, where the character turns his head around with ALT-WASD while continuing to do, what he is doing... Not sure, but AFAIR in X3 you cannot use ALT in combination with another key.

I never played a trade sim or a space sim before. My last space game is one we typed into a C64 after a code listing in a magazine called "happy computer"? not sure..., that was in the 1980s. After a night of typing it didn't work I'm not gaming much and if I do, I'm playing role playing games, Risen, Skyrim, Grimrock, you name it... I was very surprised that I fell so much in love with X3.

Does anyone know about a printable PDF map for Albion Prelude? This one http://bit.ly/x3ap-karte-pdf is nice, but only useful if you have a colour printer...

Hey, welcome to the site (and for watching my video)!

I'm glad you're liking X3 so much. It definitely grabbed me in a way I wasn't expecting, especially since I had several "false starts" with the game as a trader. Once I let go and became a pirate, the game became a lot more exciting and easier for me to grasp.

I don't know about a printable map and I suspect this community at GWJ is biding its time until X:Rebirth comes out (saving up energy for a space sim marathon).

In the meantime, welcome to GWJ and here are some threads that might interest you:

Thanks for your kind words and well, this forum has many interesting threads. Oh I would like to play so many games, if there wasn't real life which now demands a lot from me... I'm playing X3 for calming down. If I had more energy and time, I'd try playing Dwarf Fortress...

Welcome to the site, tapio! Grubber's a good guy, unless you're a filthy Boron.

Now I haz a sad

He told me he loved me when I let him do those things for me. When I cry "for the Queen" I'm thinking of Grubber.

Oh you

So... Have you worked out which Goodjer has set up an Alt account to silently stalk you to fulfill their Grubber on Boron fantasies for over a year? Any guesses?

You do know that thing in his pocket actually IS a missile , don't you ?

This thread needs an adult.

Grubber, naturally.

I have a few guesses, but I love the sexual straight and manly tension we're developing here.

I do suspect that Boron lives in my timezone and I reckon he's south of me, but that's all I'll say for now.

Cancel all your weekend plans.

Start at page 1 and read the whole thread for all the info you need to play!

God's speed Sparhawk. For me, X3 is the best Post-Elite game available.

Didn't expect any replies lol But it is good to see these. I guess I will skim the thread a bit for info.

Yup. The tutorial blows. Play it twice and then follow the main story for a while, get some goodies and then do what you want.

And I'd suggest not rolling a Terran for your first run (unless you've played X,X2). For me, they are weird and set apart from the rest of the universe.
