League of Legends Game Nights/Season 2 League

Now let's discuss times for game nights. I'm thinking maybe Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday about 7 or 8 est.

I like saturday, dislike tuesday and would prefer friday over thursday but i can do a game or two thursday, just not stay up to late with work friday.

Well we could do Friday and Saturday, I was just trying to avoid having days in a row so it doesn't get saturated.

I'm down, FedoraMcOrganizer. Prepare to be fed.

T, Th, and F or Sa works for me, at least for now.

OK so let's go with Tuesday, Friday, Saturday 8est/5pst

The next 8est/5pst won't be until Nov 4... seems like a lot of prep time for this.

Im down for whatever night, but I'm usually only able to get on at 9pm EST or later.

Why not just have the captains selected this way instead of all 10?

I can envision someone who plays well, but doesn't often get placed on the better team, thus resulting in less wins but still good performance. Having everything be up to the captains will allow them to choose the best 8 instead of the 8 with the most wins.

Either that or have everyone post their K/D/A after every match.

Yeah, Tuesdays are out for me, but should be able to make it most Fridays and/or Saturdays.

I was trying to figure out a way to give stronger players more recognition even when they are on the loosing team, but most methods just make it more complicated. K/D/A might help, but I think we'll just have to learn to recognize who we know are strong players and who isn't as we play.

Because "best" is subjective.
The incentive behind winning the qualifying games is to play in the final games. It wouldn't be fair to somebody who won more games in the qualifiers than somebody else to not get picked because a captain decided they weren't worthy.

Making people post their KDAs after games is kind of silly I think; however, there is still the idea of bonus points. The problem with bonus points though is there are so many factors that can contribute to a team winning the game that it becomes too much to deal with and decide who gets what at the end of every game. Ultimately everybody's main concerns should be to have fun and try to win the games. When we start trying to compete to be the very best like noone ever was I think it hurts the spirit of these games.

My impression of this all is that most people like to relax and have silly/fun games with other GWJers. That's one of the big reasons most people like to be in one vent channel, so that we can all laugh and pick on each other. So what I've tried to do is put that spirit into the qualifying games while giving us a bit of a competitive feel too with the final games. I think making the whole thing competitive could be fun too; however, the skill level and level of understanding of the game is so varied within the community that it's hard to do that properly.

I'm only available Sunday-Tuesday but I can try to fit a game in other nights.

What if you have both teams vote on an mvp for the game? Blue chooses someone from purple, and vice versa. Give them a bonus point or even just a half point.

Also, if we manage to get 10 people together on other than scheduled nights, can that game count towards qualifying?

Sure we could give that a shot, if it gets to be a problem then we can just drop it.

No, it's probably better to just stick to preset nights. If a game gets going before the scheduled starting time on a qualifying day then that could count though.

Tuesday works great for me. Friday and Saturday I can play a couple of games, then have to go to work.

I can make all nights but I'm kind of terrible at these games.

You can't be any worse than me.

Challenge accepted?

Clearly, redoing all the rules was just so I don't get my 2 wins from Friday.

+1, as evidenced by my shameful display last night.

Are you able to play private matches in LoL? How do you balance game nights like these with people buying XP boosts or whatever? I mean, does the game give you power to restrict things to even out people's loadouts?

We were playing 5v5 GWJ private matches for several hours on Friday night. XP and IP (currency) gain is lessened in custom matches, and eventually you just stop earning it. I think Fedora zeroed out eventually that night. It's set up to restrict XP and IP farming from private games.

I'm not sure what you mean by "loadouts". I guess the loadout equivalent in this game would be rune pages, and those are set up by the player before the matches. There is variation, but not much difference in power. More farm doesn't get you better runes, just more of them.

supposedly we balance the teams before hand to ensure that one side doesn't smoke the other side. We would prefer to do draft mode so that team leaders can counter pick teams to give more balance, but that would require all players to have at least 14(? I think that is the number) characters (which some can be free for the week ones). We tried to do draft this past friday but were unable to do to that limit, so instead we had to do blind pick. As for XP Boosts? go for it, a good majority of us are already level 30 and would love to help you guys grind through the levels. (and maybe give helpful hints here or there to stop the forming of bad habits, like the bad habit of auto-attacking the minions so you push your wave to far and exposing yourself to the counter jungler)
Though I think those games of teaching will be on other nights or times since most GWJers will probably be playing to win rather than playing to teach when it comes to these battles XD

BTW, fedora did you decide on any rules for vent, like separate channels or requirement for people to use vent?

The minimum is 16 now since there are 3 bans per side. So you have to own at least 6 champs and likely more if the champs you own overlaps the free ones at all.

I'm not entirely sure what to think of this yet. I enjoy the inhouse games but I get frustrated when the teams aren't balanced, which seems to be fairly often. I think making the inhouses more competitive is just going to widen the already pretty large gap in players' skill levels and experience.

Thanks for the answers; I was more interested from a conceptual point of view than a practical one. (I tend to view buying XP boosts as poor design.)

Whatever people want to do. For the finals, separate channels will be used.

The idea behind the qualifying games is to get more structure behind inhouse games so that there are more and more frequent. Before things were pretty random and we only got 5v5s together when everybody happened to be on at the same time. Think of the "competitive" part like a side idea to just playing together. Game nights with a twist. I think this could help close the gap a bit. By everybody planning together a bunch people can pick up tips, game knowledge, ect from each other.

Tagged, old school style.

As for me, if I'm on and a tournament game is going down, let me know. I'm not exactly sure how everything works but it's fine. Just tell me when to play and I'll do my best.

haha, sorry, the Friday thing was suppose to be a test night. The points didn't count for anybody :p

I'll be on playing this Tuesday but I am pretty sucky.

I signed up... I am going to try and be on tonight to practice a bit. My fingers are no longer naturally resting on QWER...

don't forget to save the replays peeps!
