From the makers of Flower comes Journey

Just grabbed it. Firing it up.

I would encourage everyone that plays this for the first time to explore the multiplayer interaction. It's entirely optional, but I know my experience would have been much less impactful if I hadn't gone through it with a companion or 3.

Ooh, the store updated? Finally.

It's still listed in the PS+ section, but doesn't requite PS+

Well, I went into that thinking I was getting exploration, but in the end I went through a journey.

Thank you to whoever it was traveling with me, that made it much more enjoyable. I ran into two people, apparently, but only one of them went with me through it almost the entire way. Going it alone wouldn't have been the same experience.

If you haven't finished the game don't read this spoiler:

Does anyone know if you can make it up the mountain successfully with a co-op partner, or do you always end up falling unconscious in the snow? Seems like it'd be a cool touch if you can make it through together and not succumb to the cold. I lost my partner back trying to dodge the flying monster thing, so I went up the mountain alone.

Spoiler:

Nope. You get to do all the end stuff together, which was wonderfully fun.

Can't stress this enough. It's pretty awesome, and there's a small gameplay benefit for it as well. My only regret so far is that my companion solved all of Area 2 while I was wandering around the area looking for things. Once I caught up to them in the 3rd area (or it was someone different) we stuck together for a good while.

Lovely game. So far it's my Portal for 2012.

This is one of the very few games that make me wish I had a PS3. Seems like such a neat idea and apparently the actual experience is a good one.

Or, we're 100% insane.

Can be both.

What a solid, beautiful little game. thatgamecompany sure knows how to edit, ho boy. I had the best experience with it tonight.

Spoiler:

During the ascent at the end my mystery partner was amazing. They'd chirp little songs of encouragement and made space behind the wind blocks for me, and when a snake-monster knocked me out of place they would run across the mountain to find me again. Seeing the two little dudes huddled up for warmth and singing sad, small songs was such a lovely little detail, and when we finally reached the summit it was an awesome moment, made all the better by the fact that it was a complete stranger.

At the end of my Journey

Spoiler:

My companion and I both fell on the mountain, but when I revived, I was on my own. I finished the game by myself and at the time I thought the end was a solo experience. For me it renewed the idea that I had died and reached an afterlife.

just finished and it is awesome. if you have a ps3 and have not played it, you need to stop reading this thread and go play. that is all.

I've only played about 10min before going to work... but I'll second that notion!

I only dropped in for a sec to check it out, now I'm trying to slate time to play in one sitting, which I gather is not only preferred, but practically a must (and, I don't think, a bad thing).

Yeah, I highly recommend it. I also recommend not combing over everything your first time through. I clocked in at just under two hours, but there were nooks and crannies I could've explored more, but me and my anonymous buddy just kept going. The game sort of begs for you to keep going, really.

I didn't play through in one sitting because I wasn't really sure how long it would be. I guess since I played for about two hours I'm not far from the end though?

I also feel pretty dense because I didn't realize the other Wayward Vagabond was an actual person. I thought it was just an AI that randomly dropped in and out. One of those people must've thought I was pretty silly because I kept trying to take this one jump the wrong way and missing!

Seriously beautiful game though, holy crap.

I fully believe this game is a Turing test in disguise.

Are you saying I'm a robot? I'll have you know I feel human emotions pretty much every day, mister.

I had an idea along those lines like "I wonder if they slapped in some ghost recording/replaying" just in case someone wants to play the game months after it initially comes out and there's nobody else online.

It would be kind of neat to replay it with your own ghost.

This was really great. The multiplayer component worked wonderfully.

Edit: Wow, five companions? I could have sworn it was just two.

Well I've purchased and downloaded it but either my controller battery isn't charged or it's dead. Suppose I can play it tomorrow.

I haven't really ever populated my PS3 friends list. Will that be a problem?

No, you cannot play with your friends anyways. You'll be matched with strangers, but I guarantee this is for the best. Play online and meet new companions.

Well ho-ly crap, Journey was an experience. Won't rehash what's been said before-- I think what really hit it home for me is making the player's actions really sync with the avatar's actions on screen. When I'm trying to move forward and the avatar is just plain struggling to move forward, it really made me empathize.

The coop experience was excellent as well..

Spoiler:

In the underground I was attacked and knocked to the ground by those robotic dragonflies. My ally appeared immediately by my side, chirping madly to help me up. In another instance, getting past the blowing snow part near the end, my ally was in the safe zone ahead of me, chirping encouragement as I struggled to meet him.

I cannot wait to play this game. Also, I cannot wait to send PSN FRs to ALL of you (mwahaha!), as I've been waiting on an ideal thread to come along.

Well, you can play with your friends, you just have no choice in it.

Wordy, in-game you have no idea who the people populating the game are as they're anonymous. All you get is their symbol.

Hey, for those who have finished the game, I have an inquiry metaphysical in nature..

Spoiler:

Does anyone get the feeling that by reviving and repeating the exact same experience over and over means that the vagabond is in a limbo or hell? He endlessly relives the story of a dead civilization, and from one of the tablets, that he's done it before too.

Spoiler:

Well, I looked at it more as reincarnation, that it was a metaphor of our lives. Perhaps I wanted to see it that way instead of seeing it as being stuck in limbo. You're reliving things until you get it right and then you can move on. Instead you're revived and sent back to try again.

Frankly, I think I need to play it again as I think the story would make more sense with the knowledge I have now.

Loved this so much... The way they have done seamless multiplayer is really masterful.

Spoiler:

I didn't realize until they show the names at the end that I had actually been travelling with a few different people.

I had an interesting reaction - a couple of times I found myself grabbing my iPhone and snapping photos of what was happening. It is something I have never done before. I was so invested in the game, I was reacting like I do in the real world when I want to capture a moment..

Anyway, it is a must play, IMO. And I think it is best if you can set aside 2-3 hours to do it in a single sitting.
