Stacking - new Double Fine game

I mainlined the story with my girlfriend 'helping' today. Such a fantastic game in almost every shape and form.

I really didn't notice the shortness of the game as I was having a blast the entire time!

Really amusing (rather than laugh out loud funny), beautifully designed and a great sense of pace.

Easily one of the best XBLA games I've played.

I just picked up the 100%, anyone else see the Space Station Silicon Valley resemblance? I absolutely loved that game, so I was freaking stoked as hell when they pretty much brought it over for Stacking. It's handled really well, and the game is a total blast. Everyone should go download this game right now, it's super fun.

I'm finding the style absolutely charming.

Great stuff here.

I'm inordinately proud of this game as a former student of mine hand painted most of the dolls in there, and a former coworker of mine was lead artist. AND it's SUPER FUN!

They did an awesome job. It's a fantastic looking game.

Space Station Silicon Valley was my favorite N64 game, but it sold poorly. Then Rockstar realized they can make a lot more money if a game lets you kill prostitutes. Sigh.

Stacking is now, um, stacked on my pile. I've really been going nuts with all the Arcade purchases lately...

(Edit: Rockstar used to be called DMA Designs, and that was their name when they made Space Station.)

I loved SSSV too, but ugh at the R* dig.

I'm pretty sure they actually put out GTA3 under the DMA Design name as well if I remember correctly. They also did Body harvest which was supposed to be awesome, but I never played it.

I'm in the 3rd area and am frankly blown away by the creative vision of this game.

Sephirotic mentioned being proud of the artists who contributed and I couldn't agree more. The texture art for the dolls is not only vastly diverse but also incredibly authentic. They capture the feel for turn of the century culture/aesthetics with a confident accuracy.

Extra props go out to the fantastic sound design. Everything from the sounds of character stacking, moving & "dialogue", to the refreshing ambient classical soundtrack...the mood is incredibly coherent and attractive.

Not new news or anything, bud damn if Tim Schafer isn't the Tim Burton of the gaming industry!

Credit where credit is due: the director for this one was Lee Perry, the art director for Brütal Legend. Tim Schafer helped to write the story and designed some of the puzzles, but this is Perry's game.

I also got headaches playing this game. It was a combination of the narrow field of vision on the camera and the really fast movement of the camera. I feel like they could have had one or the other but not both. It's a charming game, but I don't know that I'll be able to play it.

No problems with the camera on my side.

Sorry to hear that it's giving you trouble, ClockworkHouse.

We did a stacking episode of my show! You know you wanna check it out! =)

Shameless self promotion aside, I got all of my friends to play this. This game is just as fun to watch as it is to play imo. It's interesting to see what other people try and how their minds work in solving some of these puzzles.

I'm loving the game so far, despite a slow start. Took me two hours of looking around the train station trying to find the keymaster, trying everything I could, until I gave up and looked at a FAQ, which said he was right in front of the guard who wants you to find him. Nope, he wasn't there.

Turned out I had a glitch that required restarting, and thankfully it was right at the beginning. Next time, he was there, and I fell in love with the game about 2 minutes later when I farted in an air vent to clear out the lounge.

The style is giving me some great Grim Fandango vibes.

Glad people are still playing this, it's an amazing game all the way through.

Holy sh*t! I had no idea there was new Stacking DLC! Bought and downloading now. Probably going to be incredibly short but I really don't care, I want more Stacking.

It's about 2 hours long, or at least it was for me. Worth every penny, though, I thought.

Just finished it and completely agree. It is exactly what I thought it would be, and that's a good thing. Judging by the size of this thread, I don't think too many people played this game. It's really unfortunate.

PLAY STACKING, ASSHOLES WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THIS THREAD!

I double post for science.

If we haven't seen the thread, how are we supposed to know to play it?

If they'd released it on my platform of choice (the PC), I'd already own it.

That's why I used all caps. Now you know.

I don't know why Schafer's not having them develop for the PC anymore, but I'd buy it again if he did. Also, if I ever win the lottery, I'm buying the rights to Grim Fandango and getting him to re-release it in HD.

I played this game, but just never posted about it. I saw it in the recent threads, so I figured I'd check and see what was going on in here! I didn't know there was a DLC level either. I'm gonna have to check that out.

I played about a level and a half on the bus today. It's ridiculously awesome. I love all aspects of the game so far. The ship's 10 or so smokestacks in level 2 made me bust out laughing.

Yeah, it's pretty great.

My only problem with it now is I went back to the game after a few months to get 100%, and I'm lost in the train and can't find my way back to the station hub.

Anyone remember how to get back to the station from the train? I feel like I've explored the whole thing several times now.

How big a deal is the restricted view angle on the pc version, the devs have said they are going to sort it but just wonder how big a deal breaker it is at the moment?

I didn't notice anything wrong. That's not an issue for me. Just buy it!

I just finished the main part of the game! It was incredible! Definitely my favorite game of this year so far.

Also, there is a Top Score interview with the audio director and the game composer (who does some filler music). The classical music selection was just awesome, awesome, awesome. There are lots of my favorite composers in there. I had listened to the interview a long time ago, but it's fun to listen to now after finishing the game.

I'm so glad I donated a bit to the new Double Fine project after playing this!

It's too bad not to many people on here picked it up on Steam.

Tim Schafer seems to have the same effect as Joss Whedon on the internet at large.

I remember pretty clearly how it went with Brutal Legend. Everyone was really excited, until they weren't. Then a year or so after the game came out people tried it at the lower price point and fell in love with it.

That didn't seem to happen here. The lack of enthusiasm seemed to be caused primarily by the platform choice. So maybe the Schafer curse is broken?
