LOTRO Goings On

Good morning GWJ Lotro fans.

New to the boards here - what is your kin on Landroval? I have a 75 mini and an army of alts on Silverlode (I love housing :P) and wouldn't mind rolling a new toon on another server.

Most of us are in Eldain a Firimon(more info in the sticky up top), although a couple folks are in other Kins there, but you'd have to hit up Robear and/or Kiri for that info.

Update 6 goes live this morning, quite a large content patch.

Official Patch Notes

Yep, they're making a lot of changes to the Rune-Keeper and Warden. The Warden now has an all-ranged stance, which is neat but sounds totally useless solo.

Just been finishing off the content in Isengard with my 75 Capt, and I have a few observations which I would like to put down.

1. I think the mission content in Nan Curunir is awful. The environment is as bad - I can go through man-high spiky bushes but not over 2-foot high fallen trees, apparently. The 'seek and kill' quests within the precincts of Isengard itself are particularly excruciating.

2. I really wish there was some consistency with the objectives while missioning in groups. In some missions one kill or collect counts for all of you, in others you each need to collect something but it is still there for the others to collect it, and in yet other missions when one person collects the item it disappears, leaving the rest to continue searching. It's quite annoying and I wish Turbine would pick one model and stick to it.

I'm still playing this after nearly 5 years, but I won't be rushing to do Isengard again. It's a shame really, as I very much liked Dunland and Enedwaith.

Playing Isengard destroyed my desire to log in. A lot of the same reasons, but really it just felt...lacking. Especially after the previous areas and revamps.

Well, there's new content now, I'll give that a blast tomorrow.

See, I'm kind of different on that; I think that it'd work for dealing with ranged enemies or for pulling, then switching it up a bit. Granted, I say that even though I'll be soloing almost completely in the tank stance since that's how I've always rolled.

I read through the Warden changes tonight, and I really like what I saw. I will be checking them out as soon as possible.

Well, I took the plunge and started a character, an elvish hunter.

One question, is there any way or mod that will allow me to alter the bars to make the buttons bigger? They get quite small at high, widescreen resolutions.

In the Options there are a lot of controls to adjust the UI. Hotkey size and location are some of them. Location is done inside the game though; it's a key combination (I don't remember what).

The Great River content is enjoyable so far. I appreciate how they've built it off of Lothlorian. After so long in Enedwaith in Dunland, the subtle changes are nice.

Plugins and skins!

Go to Options and click on UI Options on the right panel. Down toward the bottom you can either use a slider to make all the icons larger (or smaller) or choose individual icon sets.

Additionally, you can do a CTRL \ (CTRL + backslash) to toggle most of the UI objects so you can move things around on your screen. Use the same command to turn it off. Very handy for moving the progress bar, quest panel, dismount button, etc.

Enjoy!

Thanks to Tigerbill and you I found those controls and tweaked it up. Via LM's link found some interesting mods (one bag please!). I really wish the main map was in high res, really muddy to me.

Don't forget to open up backpack slots before midnight tonight. Anniversary awards go out tomorrow (the 17th) and will be delivered directly, so if you don't have open slots - up to 9 by my count for 5 year vets - then you'll miss out.

Hmm, time to log on tonight then for my bumper bonus. Love to see how they fit a new nag in my backpacks

When they talk about premium subs, they're talking about former VIPs, correct?

Not sure, as I am still subbing. One box for each year in your pack now, except that the 3-year one is bugged at the mo and will be done by the end of the week. New horse looks quite nice though.

I'll have to check and see later on. I'm not on an active sub since I own all the content, have full bags and have uncapped currency on all my characters.

Don't forget that enemies will drop anniversary tokens during the whole event, which you can exchange for gift boxes that contain unique items. The higher level the enemy, the higher grade the token, the shinier the gift box, and the fancier the items.

Same way they buried a bunch of goats during the treasure hunt!

For the duration of the anniversary celebration there's an ongoing event in Bree that doesn't take too long to do and can net you some very nice rewards.

Talk to the guys next to the boar fountain for a quest that has you tracking down envelopes in the nearby area. You'll see envelopes lying about in the square with the fountain and up by the Prancing Pony, or blowing around all over Bree. When you collect and open one, you'll usually get a "Festival Invitation." Get six and the quest is over (repeatable every 8 hours), with a reward of 2 anniversary tokens. Sometimes you'll also get an "Unwanted Message," which is worth one silver to vendors. But every so often, you'll get a friggin horse. These are the 68%, 250-health steeds, which are as good as the ones you purchase through the store for about $10+ apiece. There's the Lossoth Steed and the Steed of the Dusk Watch, both of which look perfectly respectable and not particularly note-worthy.

Nice. Is it available at any level?

I believe it is.

It is available at least at 9, since I just did it. Thanks for the heads up, Lobster. Just got the Lossoth Steed after 4 days of trying.

No problem, Wembley. I took a look myself and it's a level 10 quest, so you need to be at least level 5 to do it, which isn't a big deal since you also need to be at least level 5 to ride mounts.

I had kind of a weird experience with my Lore-Master. The other day my Lore-Master got a Steed of the Dusk Watch, which was cool. Then yesterday she got two more, in consecutive envelopes. The game isn't even designed to handle that. So now I've got one (bound) steed floating around in the hopes that some day they'll change that from a Bind to Character to a Bind to Account.

Anyway, from today through the 30th they're doubling XP. Not sure if it's only from monster kills or for everything, but it sounds like this is a good week to do some leveling and gather some tokens while you're at it. I'll be heading up to Mistpeak if anyone wants to join me for some bear murder.

Double posting for excitement

Woot. Got the Lossoth horse last night. Is very nice.

Now I need the one that shoots fireworks out its butt as it rides...

You can buy those for 40 Anniversary Tokens and 2 Horse Tokens up at the Bree horse fields.

Gamestop is running a deal on The Mithril Edition for $14.99. Lots of account-wide bennies including a mount, 2000 TP, Path of the Fellowship quest pack and an auto-bump to Premium if applied to a F2P account.

More info here.
