Tempted to take up your challenge right now but my workday would vanish.

I know what you mean. My main problem with Lumines right now is that there's no quick-save feature, for leaving your game then coming back to it later. I would play Voyage a lot more if it didn't take close to 2 hours to finish it.

Okay, I've hit a major stumbling block with cross system play. I purchased the PS3 and Vita versions of MLB 12 The Show. The way the system works is simply cloud saves. Once again, I may be dense, but I thought they'd worked out some sort of Apple magical sync system where you could easily walk away from one system and pick it up on another with minimal trouble. Instead you have to go the traditional saves area in the game, upload your current save to the cloud and then download it on the other system.

Additionally you can't pause in the middle of games and upload your current save state. This has led to a strange conclusion for me. Because I can sleep the Vita and I can't sleep the PS3 I largely don't play the PS3 version. It's simply too much of a hassle to start playing a game there, wait to finish the game, upload the save to the cloud and pick it up on the Vita. It's easier just to play it on the Vita. It also doesn't appear you can play online Franchises on the Vita. So the limitations of this functionality are quickly piling up and I'm not so sure how often I'll use it. I once thought that the Vita meant an automatic purchase of a PS3 (borrowing a friend's currently). Now I'm not so sure.

I remember seeing a video that the developer for Ruin/Warriors Lair showed fairly seemless transition between playing on the vita and then picking up right where you left off on the PS3, and it seemed to do it fairly quickly, though it was a staged presentation. But I think it used the same mechanism of cloud saves. I'm at work so I can't look up the video.

I don't think this is a Vita/PS3/PSN issue, I think it's just the developer not doing things the right way. PSN pretty much lets the developer define how they want their online to function, so if The Show is requiring you to manually upload/download your saves, then that's on them. I hope other developers learn from this, and make this sort of thing just happen automagically.

The Show is developed by the platform holder. So I'm worried.

That's the irony of it, Sony has always made the poorest use of their own platform. I recommend not judging what the capabilities are based on what Sony produces, sad as it is to say that.

I've been using the cross play for Road to the Show mode, but those games are much more bite sized, since you're only participating in yor player's moments. I could see how it would be a problem if you've got a season/franchise game on the PS3 that you can't play to completion.

Well crap, I'm already seeing that the 8gig card was not a good idea. Seriously considering going back and getting the 32 as much as I hate paying the price. Also, can I move saves over to the ps3 so that I don't lose progress?

obirano wrote:

I believe so. Well, I moved my Peace Walker save from PSP to PS3 to Vita, so I'm guessing it's a similar deal.

I've been stuck with a 4 gb card so far, si I am having to move games and save data between my vita and pc. Works ok, if annoying.

I'm pretty much a one-game-at-a-time kind of guy (monogameist?), so I have to ask: are you swapping out games and data because you're playing a bunch of different things at once? How many games would you say you're actively playing right now? 2? 3?

I have the 32GB card. I don't need around 20GB of it because those are PSP games I'm largely not playing concurrently. But I am bouncing around between Uncharted, The Show, Katamari, Lumines and others. I'm never going to top the leaderboards in anything, I guess.

How big is a single Vita game? 2 or 3 GB? And space for saves?

I guess what I'm asking is: if I'm just playing one game at a time, what would be the hindrance of a 4 GB card?

Largest current Vita game is 3.3 gigs (Blazblue, IIRC). You should be able to managed 4 gig card, but I wouldn't want to manage anything lower than 8, since I like to have at least 2 or 3 options to pick from.

Yeah. I guess given the prices I would recommend most people just head directly for 32GB if you can afford it. It will give you the most flexibility to take advantage of PSN sales or freebies like Motorstorm. Honestly I think Sony should have just shipped with a 32GB card or some higher level of onboard memory.

It does seem, however, like most games are still under 3GB and many are under 1GB.

Thanks. Although since an 8 GB card is just $30, that seems like a reasonable option.

Not that I'm trying to figure out how to get a Vita or anything.

>_>

Pack rat! My iPad only ever has 2 gb free of it's 64gb. Currently, I have Uncharted on a cart, Mutant Blob, Cliff Diver and Motorstorm RC on the memory card. I have to swap Motorstorm for Wipeout depending on what I want to play.

I wouldn't mind having a couple of PSP games on there, like a JRPG, and a movie, just to see what it looks like.

I generally only play one home console game at a time, but portability is all about having the options available for my mood. At home, I lean towards games that have several ways of playing, and several options within them, like Skyrim, SR3, FFVIII-3, ME3 and so on.

Btw, "monogameist"'gets a from me. Good work!

Dr Who on Vita, this month.

Squee.

Yes, the Vita's Content Manager can Backup and Restore the entire contents to a PS3. Someone did so earlier in the thread...

I don't know how obriano plays games, but I know how I do. I'm not typically playing more than a game or two at a time on any given platform, wouldn't be all-digital with Vita purchases, and don't feel a need to keep my collection on me at all times.

I've been managing well on my 4GB card that came with the system, but I also don't have any digital versions of the bigger retail titles. I've been keeping Mutant Blobs, MS RC, the AR games, two PSP games, demos when they come out, and a handful of podcasts on Vita. I've had to move a PSP game, or a bigger demo, when it gets full, but nothing unreasonable. Course, I'll eventually have to get something bigger as the choices increase, but I hope it's not before a nice memory sale.

My favorite game of the year so far, MotorStorm RC, no doubt.

How do you get a screenshot off the Vita. I know how to take one, but not how to upload it.

I usually do one game at a time as well. I like to have some games on command, especially if I bought digital. Especially items like fighting or puzzle games. Since I'm mostly going digital for convienence, space ran out faster than I thought. I got Blazblue and Hot Shots and that took up a good amount of space.

This is the only part of that whole post which matters. Friend me up, and let's throw down in the virtual battlefield! Who are you playing?

Transfer it to your PS3 or PC via Content Manager. Simple as that!

Edit:

And done. Cyrax, I think you need to update your game. You're not appearing in my leader boards.

There are also Vita apps for Twitter and Flickr; I think both support photo uploads. (Facebook presumably does as well.)
