SimCity 5 Disappointment-All

Is it me, or 59.99$ or 79.99$ for the deluxe game.. one year before release, is somewhat a big step to get that game?

I think it's high, but they're trading on the pedigree and Anno 2070 did well enough at $50.

Limited Edition is $60. So does that mean there's a Regular Edition?

Limited Edition is the regular edition + Pre-Order Bonus.

They didn't get my money yet.. (Got the demo on my PC for about 1 month, but didn't installed it yet even..)

Official trailer in the article. Looks phenomenal! I can't wait to get back into SimCity

Online only could mean that you need a constant connection in order to upload your score, some DRM thing, or any number of inane things.

I doubt it means no single player mode.

Well, I hope.

It's SimCity, it's been built specifically for the PC, and it's back with Maxis.

I'm pretty much sold, sight unseen. ;)

This, assuming they don't go the ME3 route and try to force MP on us. I'm not into that crap.

At the end of the trailer, in small font, it says: "Images not representative of actual gameplay."

Can we put a reference to "reticulating splines" in the thread title?

Of course not!

Hmm... so the trailer has both green energy (the water wheel) and futuristic energy (the fusion generator I believe) failing, and having to then resort to nuclear energy in order to power the city. EA is branching out into subliminal messaging for the Republican party?

I'm interested, but guardedly so, since it isn't too late for EA to screw it up.

Same. My computer is starting to show its age, and SC4 was pretty brutal on my PC at the time.

Like Origin...

Ugh, are they really dropping the number from the title? IMAGE(http://rps.net/QS/Images/Smilies/rolleyes.gif)

Seems to be the trend at EA lately with all their franchise reboots.

I know. It annoys me to no end. In that, my annoyance with the MoA name has not ended yet.

That video feels so INSIDER.

Oh I saw the same, and forgot to put that in. Mea Culpa!

Let's hope the Board of Advisors is back, I loved those guys.

I missed the end of that Ars Technica article on my first read through. Now I'm concerned that this will be as much a cultural consequences simulator (e.g. Fate of the World) as a city "simulation".

Haven't really played the series since SimCity 2000. Guess I'll keep an eye on this though, just in case.

Urban Renewal Kit, day one purchase. No SCURK, no buy.

Funny, we were talking about this last night at my RPG group, but about "the new iPad". The one guy was saying that Apple recognized "sequel fatigue" and is trying to drop numbers. I pointed out that it's fine for marketing, but the makers need to have some sort of official designation to differentiate it from previous iterations. He countered that they didn't do it with the Macbooks. At which point, other players griped about what a pain it was to find accessories for their specific Macbook models.

"It's called Star Trek 11" I said at one point.

I thought Apple handles the Macbook models like a car manufacturer. You just say Macbook if you need support or a part/accessory.

I can see where it makes sense with an appliance or a manufacturered object. Creative works is a bit odd.

Anyways, still waiting for EA Marketing to bring this to the logical conclusion and just give us "Madden" in the fall.

Like Origin... :(

Yeah, the only thing I've played on Origin is ME3, and when it took longer than 5 minutes to get all my stuff transfered over from Steam I immediately hated it.

He suggested there'd be this implicit year model too. Like iPad 2012. I was only arguing that it needs to be explicit, like cars do it.

Tannhauser wrote:

I believe there was only one green energy station. It only looked like a fusion generator from the other side. If you look carefully, when it explodes, you can see the water wheel being stationary next to the building.

A new video dropped yesterday that explained some of the rules and mechanics that will make everything tick in the game.

It looks like they're adding a whole other level of complexity to the game with how resources are used and transported. I was especially intrigued by the mention that there will be coal seams under your city and the part that showed how the game engine models construction and moving vans for the development of residential zones.

Looks spectacular, engaging, and like my computer won't run it.

One of the things I found interesting is how the modeling rules posted on Gamasutra echoes some of the prototype code from The Sims

Double-check the Origin pre-order page, they had preliminary specs listed there. The website is clearly trying to hook The Sims players so I doubt it's going to be a hugely system intensive game at the low-end.

I never got into SimCity, but I am getting excited about seeing the new game in action.

Yeah, but my computer doesn't run The Sims all that great either. It runs pretty much everything else just fine, up to Battlefield 3.
