FF2012: Fantasy Football Pre-Season Catch-All

Starting a new thread since this is 2012 news.

Many new features to come, but with the roll out into NFL 2012 today we have implemented full functionality of the co-owner option. Owners now have the option to appoint up to 4 co-owners to their team (so you can have 5 total owners per team if you wish). All you have to do is go to Team->Team Owner Options->Add Co-Owner and you're all set.

This means I'll be able to open a couple more slots next year as I'll just sign on as a back-seat owner in a league or two so I can still herd the cats without the stress of trying to actually manage five different fantasy teams every week.

Edit: This will also, by default, reduce the opportunities for promotion/relegation anomalies.

Fleaflicker ftw!

Would love to join this year if you have an open slot.

FSeven's getting his bid in early. Smart move.

I always end up waiting until the week before the draft and end up watching from the sidelines.

I hope their mobile app gets a desperately-needed update.

That was the one thing I liked about ESPN, but holy hell was the website part of ESPN bad.

Watch this thread. I'm very likely to link the sign-up thread when it opens in August.

In other news, is there any interest in a Dynasty format? If so, would you still be interested if it required a nominal fee (to ensure commitment)? I'm thinking that if I open a dynasty league we might do a rookie draft in the Spring and so I'm gauging interest now. Feel free to suggest/discuss nuances of such a league (number of teams, roster size) as well if you wish.

Although I've never been a part of one, I am very interested in a Dynasty league and won't mind paying a small fee. I would keep it at 12 teams, but maybe increase the roster size to 22 or 23 to allow room for a few prospects.

Yes. Yes.

I am up for dynasty and fees.

Dynasty +1 over here too.

I'd be interested and don't mind fees. Never done a dynasty team before though so would need to figure out how it works.

How big of a fee are we talking and when would we need to pay it? I'm interested but I'm running low on extra cash.

I am interested in a dynasty league and fees are fine with me.

I'd be willing to join a dynasty league w/ fees too.

I would also be interested in the dynasty league, should it occur!

It definitely won't be more than 12 teams. My initial thought is to keep the active roster size at 20 but perhaps be a bit more liberal with the reserve slots.

This, like everything, is very much open to discussion, though I envision something that is essentially similar to the keeper league but with significantly less punitive inflation, if any at all. Perhaps some sort of salary cap mechanism? It's all pretty up in the air which is why I'm starting the conversation now.

Off the top of my head, I came up with $33 though I'm completely open to suggestions. Payment would presumably be at the time of securing your position in the league.

In case you were wondering what would happen to the monies, I'm not terribly keen on cash prizes as that can cross the line into gambling* for some, so I would most likely just refund monies at the end of the season to everyone who successfully fulfilled their obligations. Hence, the "odd" number of $33. If one person abandoned their post, the other 11 teams would each get their deposit + $3. I also considered $22 and $44 for the same reason (and like I said, everything is open for discussion).

* "Gambling is the wagering of money ... on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods." (Source: Wikipedia; emphasis mine.) Personally, I've played in leagues with cash prizes before and never considered it gambling because winning additional money was not my primary intent -- having fun was. That being said, I know others who saw it differently and for whom it was a problem and I don't want that to be a limiting factor for anyone.

I'm in. Seems like Im one of the few that has been or is in a dynasty league, so if you need or want any suggestions I can help just message me

Although someone obviously has to ultimately make an executive decision, I like to have things be as open and democratic as possible. As such, if you'd be willing to tell us about your league and post your suggestions for all to see and discuss, that would be my preference. If not, drop me a PM with the same info and I'll distill it for the group. Thanks.

I'd also throw out there the possibility of using the cash (or even just part of it) for non-cash rewards. A trophy being an example. Maybe some football related swag, both desirable (hat/jersey/etc of your favorite NFL team) and hilariously undesirable (pick some sh*tty player's discount rack jersey that the last place team "wins").

There's a lot of wiggle room in there in terms of how desirable or undesirable the rewards can be. I think being able to win a pick of jersey would be an awesome 1st prize, but if that's too much of a reward as to invoke concerns of being too close to gambling, there's certainly a ton of room for going lower key.

I really like physical "prizes" because they're infused with a pride that comes from winning them, and that's something you can't just go to the store and buy. Even as a grown-ass man, a Jaguar hat that I got from winning a league would just be much cooler than a hat I bought for myself on nflshop.com.

While I appreciate the sentiment of your suggestion, the (Wikipedia) definition includes "winning additional money and/or material goods." Like I said previously, I don't personally have an issue with it since the winning* is never really my primary intent. (It just happens, what can I say? :D)

In the light of day, I'm thinking that what I'll do is wait until we see who's in, and then see what that group would like to see done. I'll say this up front, though (so that no one has any concerns before signing up), if even one of the owners has an issue with material prizes, I'll stick with the refund solution.

*...of prizes...

Well I for one want someone besides me to have to take pictures in a humiliating jersey.

My vote is for both prizes and anti-prizes.

Just be glad that (because this is Austin, no doubt) the VY Titans jersey never got cheap enough.

I will vote against anything Legion proposes about others wearing humiliating jerseys simply because I believe that is his true legacy at GWJ.

I like the idea of trophies. I wouldn't think it classifies as gambling or else my 9-year-old daughter's softball league would be considered gambling. They get trophies and I have to pay for her to participate. Now that defense might not hold water in a court of law, but it makes sense to me.

TBD. Let's move on from the "What will be done with the fees?" conversation for now. "How much should the fee be (to ensure commitment but not be unreasonable)?" is still a valid discussion.

I'm thinking the range is $20-40.

Agreed.

If it's any more than $40 I'm out. Even if I get that back, it's not something I can afford right now (moving) or at that time of the year due to my non-GWJ being money-based.

I think 25 is a good sweet spot. Also, you know I'm in. I'm a sucker for FF.
