MLB 12: The Show

The Diamond Dynasty mode looks soooo sweet. I wish I knew folks more active in the this game to really get into it. But for those who have PS3 baseball friends, this will be very cool(!)

Sounds great!

I'll be buying this for PS3, Vita, Neo Geo Pocket, Timex Sinclair 1000 and the Viewmaster.

LOL. Obviously Dr. Who *chuckle*

I will likely be picking up for PS3 and Vita.

I was going to skip this year's edition, but I already feel myself weakening. I will be around on PS3 sooner or later

Where is the talk of a season in The Show for Vita/PS3? I'd be up for that.

It was on Twitter between a few of us Vita owners. We plan to have a Leage once we get the game and get familiar with options etc...

So this is just a Vita league? I know you can play PS 3 and continue playing the same game on Vita and vice versa, but that might be a advantage or disadvantage. And from what I've read, not all the options on the PS 3 carry over to the Vita. Is this correct or...?

I guess that remains to be seen. My main interest is in a league that can span both consoles. Who knows if that's even possible with online leagues. It might only be possible in SP games.

Saw some videos with Adrian Gonzalez doing everything with the Move. I.e. it's just not home run derby like last year. This year you do it all: pitch, bat, field, steal etc. It show's him doing all this during a game and what buttons to push etc. This will be allot(!) fun!!

p.s. My local Gamestop is having a Midnight bash for this too. Monday night 10-12 and game in had's just pass the witching hour. Yes!

Had to go find the link from Flip facebook interface:

Wasn't sure about it at first, but pulse pitching is great. Very realistic results.

I also heartily approve of pulse pitching. Straddles the line between "I can influence these results" and "pitching am hard" quite well.

Is the batting better? I didn't care for that last year.

The analog batting you mean? If so, I didn't like it much either. I'm going button this year (after enjoying that old fashioned method on the old PSP these past couple months).

Yeah, analog. I really like the analog batting in the MLB2K series (only played the demos though), but never felt comfortable with what was in The Show. Seems like they went and put in more control to the analog batting this year, which may or may not be what I want or need in order to get comfortable with it.

I just can't do the 'pulse'. Using same function as last year. Batting with buttons this year. Tried analog last year and again, timing bad (gettin' too old for some of these quick reflex stuff I guess). Fielding seem's as good as usual. This game just rocks(!!) with the player animation and ambiance. Just can't beat it.

Tried hitting with the Move. Fun, if alittle quirky. But really didn't give it allot of time, so can't really make a proper judgement.

For those curious about cloud saves and the Vita, something copied from the Vita forums roughly.

Basically cloud saves are a bit clumsy, but pretty amazing. I created a Road To The Show on my Vita, played some games on the PS3 and then played some games on the Vita. No hiccups. Each time you have to distinctly select a menu item that says "upload to the cloud" or something like that. So it's not like it happens automatically. And you can't do it mid-game as the Sony ads imply. But it still works.

Now for the bad news. You can't download cloud saves on 3G. So I have this 3G Vita for which I pay service and I assume at the very least this means I can take advantage of functionality like this on the go. No. It requires WiFi. Ugh.

Haven't gotten to pulse pitching yet as I've just been doing RTTS. Starting to wonder if choosing a position player was the best idea. I'm bad at batting and there are less jobs for a 1st baseman than say a pitcher.

I'm going to try tonight to see if there are online leagues and if they can be cloud saved and played between PS3 and Vita.

Pulse pitching seems a little twitchy on the Vita. I'm all for an effort to make pitching a little more unpredictable to reflect reality but at this point I can barely throw a strike let alone spot my pitches.

Pulse pitching seems a little twitchy on the PS3 as well - at least for me. I've only dabbled with it, but it just seems a little too random so far. An interesting idea, but maybe one that needs a bit more tweaking.

I think the thing with pulse pitching is that it's not a normal sine wave type movement... the snap back 'out' from the circle's tightest point happens a lot faster than when it's constricting, so if you miss that sweet spot it's going to go pretty wild. I have to concentrate on erring early to have success. I love the results though. Giving up realistic walks with it, which is key IMO.

Started a RTTS pitcher. Was drafted by the Mets and got promoted to AAA after just my first evaluation. I've never had a promotion that quickly before... Usually at least half a season.

Really enjoying the game so far. Can't wait for the operation sports full minors roster to come out so I can start a franchise. I haven't given that mode enough attention the past few years. Have ventured online yet... Any improvement?

Is RTTS more fulfilling as a pitcher? I'm finding hitting to be quite difficult and I'm stuck in AA and not sure if I'll ever actually make it to The Show.

I really enjoy it. You tend to develop love/hate relationships with your fielders, which adds and interesting dimension. It's much more forgiving at the earlier levels, that's for sure. Even though your velocity and control are low, you can still have success by mixing your pitches up and knowing how to attack hitters.

My problem with hitting in RTTS if you're only playing your player is that you don't get much of a chance to warm up and get a feel for things, much like a real player. I always found pitching to be more enjoyable because you're in control of your pitching and get many, many more opportunities in a game to show your stuff (barring a quick relief effort).

And hoosierjoe, I believe I read/saw somewhere that they were trying to make it so it's easier/faster to get into the majors in RTTS now. I think.

Huh. I may roll another player then. I'd like to see that progression, but I don't think I'll see it at my current rate. I'm not improving fast enough to hit the goals.

Ack, really? That's sort of disappointing to me, actually.

Won't get a chance to play the Vita version until I get back from vacation. Disneys wireless network sucks.

Actually, you CAN warmup. As a pitcher you get warmup tosses before your start or relief appearance. As a hitter you can get BP before the game.

This is extremely true. I also had a crap time trying to get a cell signal as well while at the resorts.

I'm still really considering picking this up on the vita. I haven't played any of The Show games.

I'm loving Road to the Show as a 2B. You really feel jacked every time you get a hit or even have a good AB. The game now recognizes good plate appearances like line drive outs and working deep into the count and awards you training points.

I think the last time I played RTTS in '09 rewards were purely results-based.

Yes! The last version I was playing was the PSP version, and their judgements were so draconion. I love that now, if you go down 0-2, you can use contact swing to hang in there and at least get a 'good at-bat' rating (and the requisite points).
