The Playstation Vita Catch-All

Finished Mutant Blob... loved it.... possibly even motivated to go back and get trophies if I had more gaming time.

As long as people buying physical media don't complain that their carts don't work on the Vita Go, or whatever successor device Sony comes up with. Not that there is any particular reason that a future device shouldn't have the same cart slot, much less bulky than a UMD drive, but all digital is usually a safer upgrade path. I've been buying all my PSP games digital for the last few years and it seems like it will pay off now.

OK, what the hell is up with Lumines crashing all the time? It has hard-locked my Vita 3 times now, and just encountered a fatal error when I was about to post my record score. No other game has done this, has anybody else had crashing problems with Lumines?

EDIT: Uh, and now I just hit level 50 simply because I contributed 3,000 blocks to the world block. This game needs a patch, desperately.

Thanks to a sponsorship deal, MotorStorm RC is FREE for all Vita owners. That's pretty badass. Only for a limited time and it's up tomorrow.

This is awesome. For some reason, I was looking forward to this game more than Mass Effect 3 (which I'm going to wait on after dropping so much cash on the Vita). Now that it's free, I'm even more pumped.

If you had told me 2 years ago that I would be more excited about launch games for the successor to the PSP than I would be for Mass Effect 3 (after loving ME1 and ME2), I would have told you you were crazy. Of course this was before I had 2 kids and all my gaming habits changed, but still, this is bizarre.

How are people feeling toward going the digital route? I don't want to buy the 32 as $100 is quite steep. I think the 16 will suit my purposes but I'm not sure. Once you buy a game, it stays on your account right? I'm curious to how big some of these titles really are like uncharted or UMVC3 or even the smaller things like super stardust.

Here are my two cents as someone who has gone all digital so far.

You won't have the full memory card size available to you for games. I have a 32GB card, and only 29GB are available for use according to the Vita. I'm only using about 14GB on the card right now. Here is the breakdown:

5GB = Vita Games (Lumines, BlazBlue, Escape Plan)
4GB = Vita Demos
3GB = PSP Games (Tactics Ogre, LBP, Killzone Liberation)
1GB = Vita Apps & AR Games
1GB = Video (one movie)

As you can see, the demos take up a lot of space, but can be deleted right after you play them if you want to. Many of the demos are as big as the full game. I didn't expect this, but I'd rather have a big file size for demos than no demos at all.

Regarding the games you mentioned, here are the file sizes:

1.5GB = UMVC3
0.2GB = Super Stardust Delta

Hope this helps you pick the right memory card size for you.

Same here on buying PSN. I kind of disagree on Vita cards, though. Given that many games are requiring [strikethrough]PC-like [/strikethrough] Console-like patches I think you should be able to convert your card purchase to a PSN purchase easily. At this point I know I'm keeping Uncharted, which shocks me. So I'm possibly going to sell the card and use the credit to buy a PSN care, take the hit on the difference and re-buy Uncharted. Definitely buying most games I think I'll keep (MLB) at this point.

How cool that Motorstorm RC is gonna be free for a limited time! I'm glad I took the trouble to dig up my US PSN account details and used that account on my EU Vita, since I will now get Motorstorm for free. (EU accounts don't get this deal.)

I'm still on the fence about Super Stardust Delta, it's a shame I can't seem to find a demo in the PSN store. I don't normally play twin stick shooters like this one or Geometry Wars, plus I'm worried it might be too much for this casual gamer. What do you guys think? There's a version with and without the DLC, is it worth it?

The demo is definitely on the store, I have it. When I have a bigger card, I'll be getting the full version, and I am not the biggest twin stick guy. It just hits a sweet spot for me.

We sure are.

Should we set up a thread over in the Sports forum or keep it here?

I call the Athletics.

I'd recommend moving to sports and putting Vita in title somewhere.

I see a future where (God forgive me if I just gave Sony a money grubbing idea) where you can buy a Vita Game on a card that includes a redeemable code for the download for $5-10 more. Tie the code to the card and a PSN account. Would garner a little extra cash, reduce the ability of the end user to trade card if he uses the download card etc.... Better would be where you could just buy these full game codes from Amazon ala a Xbox Live Subscription at a deeply reduced price - I think you can already do this at GameStop for some PSP games.

FYI, I tested my Vita with Ad-hoc party and everything worked swimmingly.

Well I've tried a bit of everything to get my PSP saves to work with Vita, but still no luck even though my Vita's able to play saves from other people. As I know one of the most commonly owned games here is Tactics Ogre, I thought I'd try something else. Logically, it won't work, but I'm willing to try. I've uploaded my TO save here, in the hopes that someone with the game can try it out. If it works, please make your own save from my save game, and upload it.

On Windows 7, the save game location is

C:\Users\[your username]\Documents\PS Vita\psavedata\[your vita id]\

Thanks for any help.

No! Bad! You shouldn't tempt me so.

I've seriously put about 10 hours into Lumines and never had a single crash and only one World Block glitch that didn't result in me getting any extra experience. It has had a patch already but it was minor and I never had problems even before it. Do any other games do this?

Picking a vita up later today, trying to decide on a few games to tide me over until Disgaea 3 comes out.

Does Uncharted have any U2-style multiplayer, or it's just the campign?

Nope, not a one. I played Uncharted for days, going in and out of stand-by, quitting and restarting, etc. etc. with no problems. Same with Super Stardust and Hot Shots Golf, no problems. Lumines started acting up after a couple hours of play, and hasn't functioned properly since. Last night I rebuilt the database, then restored my Vita (to get the Gravity Rush demo), then rebuilt the database AGAIN just to be safe, and this morning Lumines was fine. If it's still fine this afternoon, then maybe it was a corrupt database.

BTW, I just learned that if you rebuild your database, it wipes away all DLC you've downloaded, even for games you still have installed. So if you rebuild your database, make sure to re-download your DLC.

So glad I visit this thread regularly, I had forgotten about Motorstorm RC. Sadly it's still not on the store.

The store usually updates later in the day. A shame, but that's the schedule they have.

You can get to the store? I can't currently. That worries me that I might have to "rebuild the database".

Just a campaign mode, unless I'm missing something. Although there is some sort of treasure trading...thing? That I've not really looked at. Probably something to do with their street-pass type thing.

Can anyone that has Escape Plan tell me if it has multiple save slots? My wife tried the demo at Target and really liked it, and it was on my list to pick up at some point. I'm afraid though it would be a pain if I have to transfer the save back and forth whenever the other one wanted to play.

Escape Plan has multiple save slots, as many as you have memory for.

The Uncharted trading thing is really poorly explained. What you do is go into the Black Market, and pick what thing you want. Then when you activate Near, the game automatically looks for people who have posted extras of bounties in that area (arcana, gems, etc.), and if it finds one it downloads it for you. This doesn't happen often though, unless if you're playing nearby someone who has already farmed a TON of bounties, and has extras flowing out their ears. I've managed to get 1 so far, from TrashiDawa.

Finished Rayman Origins! Man, what a good game. I didn't get all of the smilies, but I did get all the skeleton teeth.

Also? I had no idea it was going to be so hard. The last few levels totally took me by surprise, and I'm ashamed to say that I muttered a few nasty words.

Sony launches are so odd. I went to 3 shops today, each of which had a good supply of Vitas, both 3G and wifi, but no-one can get cases or memory cards over 4 gb.

It's like 20th-century communism, where Russian stores had an abundance of trousers but a shortage of trouser buttons.

Thanks, picked up the vita today and wipeout, will probably download one game tonight.

I have a bunch of good psp games on my PSN account (tactics ogre, fft, dissidia) so I'm flush for now.

Now sleep, kids, go to sleeeeeeep....

You better watch out, Grobstein and PX. I'm closing in on your scores in Lumines, just another good day long Voyage and I'll have them beat. The world block seems to go a lot slower during the week, I've managed to contribute blocks two days in a row now. I guess it's just weekends where it disappears in the wee hours of the morning. And once again, contributing 2,000 blocks just earned me 30 levels.

I'm not used to dealing with the PSN Store for cutting edge releases but I'm a little confused why it isn't updated yet. I assume you can go to GameStop and buy The Show right now, right? Why would Sony delay 1 minute to make it available for digital download.

The convenience and reliable nature of Steam has spoiled me.

I was going to complain that Moterstorm isn't available yet either but they are giving it away so I suppose I can wait.

PSN updates are very inconsistent when it comes to the specific time. It'll vary by many hours week to week.

I'm not going to complain about Motorstorm, but it is weird that The Show isn't there. I've tried to buy it 3 separate times today. I guess they want me to buy a physical copy that I can strategically sell before The Show 13 is released.

And to add to how weird it is, they released Mass Effect 3 for download at midnight, but not for their own game. Even Valve still has their default window of noon PST, but publishers are allowed a time choice, it seems.

posting from my vita. finally. my wipeout is delayed still.
