The Playstation Vita Catch-All

DAMN YOU, HOT SHOTS GOLF. LET YOUR EVIL HOLD OF ME GO. I HAVE COLLEGE ESSAYS TO WRITE.

Just an FYI, I posted in the Monster Hunter Freedom Unite thread to hopefully gather some GWJers for some multiplayer.

So the multiplayer works on Vita? Do you need to be a network engineer to make it work?

I am really struggling to find a decent hard case for this thing. Any suggestions?

I don't think there are any good hard cases for storage.

I'm not to sure on the need for this first one. I had a crystal case for my PSP but that was to protect the screen. It worked very well, because that protector is tore up and my screen still looks brand new.

This one is pretty good, except that fitting it in your pocket seems a little unlikely. You would likely need to have a backpack or cargo pants/shorts.

Really all I want is something that covers the touch surfaces and the analogs with a form factor that doesn't change the profile of the device too much.

This has nothing to do with cases, but these may make playing on the Vita a bit more comfortable. I had something along the same lines for my PSP, but it was poorly made and eventually snapped and I could no longer use it.

I find the case that comes with the FEB is pretty protective.

A couple of random thoughts.

- I'm 1/3rd of the way through Uncharted and I might actually keep it and run through it again. I bought on cart because I thought I'd for sure sell it but I really like it.

- I'm considering selling my other PSP and its 32GB Memory Stick. I'm all in on the Vita. So weird and shocking.

- Tuesday I'm going to buy two copies of MLB The Show. PS3 and Vita.

Just FYI. Saw that you save some cash of you buy both at once from Best Buy.

Well, went and played with a demo unit. It's still dependent on what my bonus turns out to be, but I am leaning heavily towards getting one. I'm debating going all digital though for convince sake. I don't travel much and drive to work so my playtime will be at home mostly. How are people feeling toward going the digital route? I don't want to buy the 32 as $100 is quite steep. I think the 16 will suit my purposes but I'm not sure. Once you buy a game, it stays on your account right? I'm curious to how big some of these titles really are like uncharted or UMVC3 or even the smaller things like super stardust.

I don't have a dog in the physical vs. download debate, but why are so many people all or nothing on the matter? Applies to Vita and other future platforms. I'm going where the best deals hang out, and that isn't delivery-method exclusive.

I'm not planning on going all out, if there is a good deal one way or another I'll go that way. Just wanting to go mainly digital for the convienence factor.

Re: Uncharted - I'm on my 2nd play of it, and you do not have to repeat all the puzzles, they remain solved if you replay the game on your existing save. Just an FYI for those who don't like those aspects. Also, the game is a lot faster when you're skipping cutscenes.

I have that. Feels great. It's like holding a 360 controller with a screen

I long for something like the Logitech Playgear Pocket. My PSP never leaves that thing.

In case anyone is curious, Neogaf have been compiling a list of the PSP games that didn't appear on the compatibility list but will still work if you download on the PS3 and transfer over.

Thanks for the suggestions, Gimpy. I had a look at the Thrustmaster case, but it seems very bulky and I don't like the square corners.

I'm leaning towards this one, for the lack of anything better.

My PSP is still living in an unbranded hard case with plenty if games storage. It was a launch PSP, and both it and the case are entirely undamaged after all those years of being chucked in bags and drawers. I just can't find anything similar.

Thanks to a sponsorship deal, MotorStorm RC is FREE for all Vita owners. That's pretty badass. Only for a limited time and it's up tomorrow.

I wonder how limited the "limited" time is.

No mention of it on the EU blog. I suppose that makes sense, since it is being sponsored by Scion, who have no presence under that brand in the EU, as far as I am aware.

That is very badass. I will have to remember to download that tomorrow.

Wait. Today or tomorrow? I don't want to miss that.

Tomorrow, Tuesday the 6th, according to the article. I just checked the store, and the game isn't even there yet.

Whoa that's so cool

I know that people who bought the PS3 version would be able to download the Vita version for free but

Does that mean if you get the Vita version you'll be able to download the PS3 version for free?

Yes, yes it does.

I go all in. I don't buy a game if it is not on Steam or Battle.net. I don't buy books that are not on the Kindle. When I get a Vita I was planning to go all digital just because of convenience, but the whacked out pricing that has been going on so far shows the deals are so much better at retailers AND you keep the ability to resell the games. I am ok with paying the same for a digital version for convenience but asking me to pay more is just ridiculous. I really have no experience with PSN as I've never really used it with my PS3 so I don't know if they often have sales or keep up to date with pricing like reducing prices on older games but so far what I have seen and heard since launch has made me waiver in my all digital plan.

PSN has the occasional sale, but even then the discounted prices don't keep up with what Amazon or other retailers will be selling the games for a few months after release. PSN is terrible about dropping prices (case in point, see above about P3P still being $40 on PSN, but $28 on Amazon). Also, it is not required that publishers give $5 off PSN purchases, so not all games are getting that discount on PSN (for example, BlazBlue or U. MvC 3).

As always, I go where the price is best. If that's Amazon, then physical it is. If that's PSN, then digital it is. It is *extremely* tempting to just download a bunch of stuff off PSN, it is that easy to do especially right now when the prices are equal.

In other news, the final course in Hot Shots Golf, Legacy of Links (or whatever it's called) is a frustratingly large jump in difficulty compared to the other courses. I regularly score 0 or maybe +1 the first time I play a course, but this one... +13. The best I've been able to pull off so far is +1. It's windy, the fairway is TINY, the entire course is elevated and heavily sloped so if your shot is off by even a bit you might be looking at an O.B., and it's chock full of bunkers and water hazards. Perfect Impact and excellent spin control are a must on this course, and big distance has many times been a hindrance rather than a help. I highly, highly recommend spending points on some higher end gear before moving on to this one in Silver bracket. This course nearly got me to smash my Vita, it is that frustrating.

I've never gone fully digital for any device. I still buy some games on PC as a hard copy, although they tend to now navigate you to a download on Steam or Origin rather than ripping data straight from the disk.

So far with the Vita I have gone completely digital, although I only have 4 games. That is new for me considering I never bought a single digital PSP game and I have never downloaded a PS3 game directly to the console when a physical copy exists.

I've only gone fully digital with books, but I don't read enough that I'd need to go out of the selection provided. The only thing I miss from physical books is the new book smell, and that's a minor quirk of mine that only lasts for the first few days anyway.

MotorStorm RC being sponsered is amazing. Not only do we get a good game for free, but also this ensures a great MP community. I'm loving SSX's asynchronous MP, and I've no doubt I'll be hopelessly addicted to the constant challenges in this game, too.

Anyone seen my resolve laying around? Maybe flailing about somewhere?

I'm pretty sure I saw it in a back alley, surrounded by Lumines, Uncharted, and Hot Shots Golf. The Vita was leaning against a wall, just watching the brutality.

I got my Vita a week ago. Unfortunately, the worst cluster of migraines in my life hit later the same day, before I even hit the on switch. In the last week, I did the basic set up, downloaded Wipeout and Mutants, and that's about it.

Finally, I managed to get an hour in (split into a dozen 5 minute chunks) and wow I love this thing. Uncharted looks and plays amazingly well. I completely forgot that I was on a handheld.

Thanks but MLB had to be there. If SSX:Vita was there, he'd be dead.

Ah, MLB must have been the one in the shadows, holding a tire iron. I couldn't see him clearly, I didn't want to stick around, things looked ugly.
