Links 2004: I love this game!

Yes, yes, yes, old, but so wonderfully good. Good graphics and game play, stats, and great graphical aspects when you hit the ball well.

I have played all the TW's. (and starting with Mean 18 back in the day). I played TW 11 last year on PS 3 with their motion detector and it was fun (almost needed to practice as much as real golf to get the feeling of club distances etc.) And I'm looking forward to TW 12 on the 360 with complete Kinect implementation. That should just be super (and I'm hoping we can get some tourney's going with just Kinect play and a 'cross your fingers' ! connectivity that works well.)

But I remember having a great time with Links 2k4 tourney's with Mr. Green, Swampy, Dramatic Martin, baggachipz, Demiurge, etc. I sucked (and was a good for some chuckles), but it was loads of fun.

But back to Links 2k4. Great game, period!

Links was probably the most fun I've ever had playing online with goodjers. I wish they would make a new version.

Oh, don't a bunch of us! Unfortunately in 2004 Microsoft closed down their sports division (XSN). They created Top Spin tennis too. But that was taking over by another design group after the first one.

One other thing that made this game great (and has always bugged me about TW), is that is gave individual course top stats. I really like this and it was on older golf games. But for some unknown reason TW never implemented this.

Links 2004 still plays very nicely. I was wondering it's still able to play on-line.

Those were good times. I had forgotten about the stats package. Was it just top stats per course or did it break it down by hole? I seem to recall the latter, but my memory is so foggy these days.

Unfortunately not by hole, but about 8 categories for each course. Longest putt, drive, chip in etc. Still pretty darn cool, seeing how TW doesn't do this at all. (or hasn't thus far). Plus after a run, they run highlight's of the round. I mean this is back in 2k4. This package really does/did rock.

Wow, the graphics hold up pretty well.

Do you have to buy half the courses as DLC? No? Because that would be ludicrous, right? Zing! Take that EA!

Even I really enjoyed Links 2004. Was a great game. And that's coming from somebody who'd never bothered with a golf game before and probably never will again.
