Star Trek Online Catch-All

Some information on the dailies.

If I do any of them, its the 'Investigate Officer Reports' user created content daily (not listed above). In the 'Foundry' user created missions list, search for 'Nagus', he's got a set of short combat mission - space and ground. Good for a short fight, and quickly completing the three needed for the daily. 1440 Dilithium ore.

The three missions in the Eta Eridani block are fairly quick. Traelus System - Satellite Repair is the longest of the three, and its still short. Defense Contract at the Althena system has the bonus of the Deuterium Surplus, nice little device. And over near the Zibar system you will find the Sh'mar freighter in trouble. 480 Dilithium ore each.

For the Klingons, you get all of the above, as well as the Path of the Warrior dailies in Pi Canis block. Well worth doing as you level up, the daily that requires you complete all six of the optional objectives is a challenge, but I enjoyed them.

Both sides also have a daily at the Academy, Mission: History 101: Alpha Quadrant from 2380 or The Lore of the Empire.
480 Dilithium ore.

Here's this weeks' Massively review of the third episode in "The 2800" Featured series, "Operation Gamma." As before, it contains spoilers.

I liked this one, especially the cutscenes. Overall, I'm really liking this series and the good mix of diplomacy, space combat, and good DS9 lore. I'm finding myself having to think back to what transpired on the series, which is always a big plus for me.

Are you sure about that? Apparently they reworked how beams and cannons work and they no longer have shared cooldowns. I've run with 7 beams as an experiment and they all fire in sequence. Same with 4 cannons.

Wait, what kinds of dailies? Solo stuff? 'Cause I'm down with that. Fleet stuff is pretty meh - spend 25 minutes fighting the Borg and get nothing? No thanks.

Also - I'll open the Gold Lock Boxes (I've only gotten one, and got a really decent self-leveling console from it) but I just discard the regular ones, they don't even sell for 1 credit apiece.

Yep, it's all solo stuff. Depending on your level and where you're at in the episode content will give or take, but there are 3 missions from the Breen episodes that reward dilithium, plus the officer reports one, and I think the explore three systems one will give you dilithium as well.

Firing in sequence means there is a cooldown, at least a minor one. That's how torpedoes and cannons both work. If there were no cooldown at all, your cannons would all fire simultaneously, like when you fire a torpedo simultaneously with a cannon. I'm not happy that they did that to beams as well because simultaneous fire was great if you could keep your weapon energy up.

So what do you do with do dilithium? I've been getting the Omega team/Borg items and don't seem to have a use for it.

Apparently, dilithium is super-useful in crafting, because all the high end stuff requires materials that you can't get except by purchasing it with dilithium.

I'm trying to make the top end dual heavy cannons, and total I'll need roughly 18,000 worth of dilithium to build them, to get the "uncommon unreplicable materials". I know that you do get some of those as a mission reward, but that seems so sporadic and lame that I'll just rotate DOFF stuff and do some dailies when I have time to get the dilithium I need.

I've got 30k dilithium and use dual heavy cannons. Where/what do I do? I'll jump into the solo vent channel now in case you're on.

I'm starting to wonder if this is a limitation of autofire. There have been a couple instances where I can clearly remember all of my cannon timers ticking down in sync. I'm not sure if it works with beams because I fly an escort and I don't use them much.

Also, how does the weapon energy drain work now that they changed it? They say things like "-12 energy when other weapons are firing". So I assume that means you lose 12 energy the moment that weapon is fired if any other weapons are still active.

What was so great about simultaneous fire? I can remember draining my energy down to zero while running a heavy cruiser and 6 beams during the beta. I once put 7 beams on my escort as an experiment and I never dropped below 75 or so. Except for the worst spikes with Fire at Will active which dropped me down to 50.

Yeah...wow, I totally misread the descriptions. I didn't get that they were additional powers...I just thought that they were additional pieces. It looks like uglying up the ship will be worth it.

Had to dig to find this comment. Last night I found that if you right click on the borg device, it gives you the option to hide visuals just like armor and kits. Just thought you'd like to know if you hadn't seen that option yet.

Refined dilithium can be used to buy some really sweet stuff in the dilithium store. It's common, granted, but if you need an upgrade console, it really helps filling out the build you want.

Click on your inventory and then assets. It gives you an option to refine the dilithium (there's a daily refining limit).

Okay, I went back and explored Memory Alpha and now have a handle on it. Good thing is that I had nearly maxed out the crafting of one of my characters before my hiatus, so I only had to make a couple of items and now I can make any of the Memory Alpha items for anyone in the fleet --just bring me some materials and/or credits to have me do it for you so you don't have to build up your general research skill.

I like what they've done with making the research advancements more disclosed. Before, you had to craft an unknown number of items before it would unlock the next crafting tier, and you had to unlock three different branches (ground equipment, ship components, ship weapons?) separately It's nice to see a research value number next to each item, and knowing which items require certain thresholds to be able to produce. It looks like the actual crafting hasn't changed much, except now you use a schematic instead of bringing a certain piece of equipment to be converted. So it seems like a step in the right direction. Still, I imagine that those of you who have played other MMOs seriously probably want a very customizable crafting system, so I'm still a bit disappointed that there wasn't a change like that over all this time.

I hit 50 this morning, and switched my items over to my Odyssey vessel I had waiting. Maybe it's just that my current ship could turn on a dime, but damn this thing turns slow. I installed 4 booster modules to improve it's turning by around 130%, and it's still freakin' slow. But it sure is nice seeing all those beam arrays firing at once when I broadside something.

That's what I thought. I just think it's a sexxxy looking ship, despite all the junk in her proverbial trunk...er...shuttle bay.

I recently switched back to my Intrepid-class Retrofit, though. Much easier to pilot.

Yeah, I tried my Odyssey, but it wasn't getting the job done. Not sure I'm ready to spend $20 on a pretend space ship, so for now I am back in my previous escort class.

I think the Odyssey is meant to be a beam boat. It turns like a pig, but with a six beam weapon broadside, it can be pretty effective.

Oh, it's very effective. I think of it as trying to pilot a Raptor or the Battlestar Galactica: which one's more fun?

What sets the Odyssey apart is that Lt. Commander universal bridge slot. I've seen some beastly damage builds based around a full beam loadout. Using tactical skills to boost damage and using engineering skills to, among other things, keep weapon and shield energy at a constant 125.

All right, here is something that has been happening that just enrages me.

Occasionally I am totally unable to fire a weapon. It happens on the ground or in space. I can trigger all abilities, but no weapons. It just made me have to bail out on a war zone. Exiting and re-logging in always fixes it, but it really makes me upset.

Has anybody else had this? And yes - I know that some enemy abilities make me unable to fire my weapons. I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the panel just graying out and staying that way.

Obviously the problems with auto-attack not working a few patches ago. But not other than that.

Stele wrote:

I don't even know how to turn auto attack on. I just hit the space bar to fire cannons/turrets. But when this glitch happens, no method of firing will work. Not mousing over the buttons, not space, nothing.

You should be able to right-click on the weapon(s) you want to auto-fire, and then that weapon icon will turn green. If I remember correctly, that is.

But you're right: it's completely unintuitive. I'm not sure what the appropriate solution is, but my auto-fire appears to be working.

This happened to me today, for no reason I could see, and eventually did clear up. I have everything set to autofire, but saw no debuff to explain it, and it eventually seemed to clear up on its own. It has only happened the one time so far though.

I think it's like some weird debuff gone horribly wrong. The last time it happened today, I noticed that my ship's weapon energy was stuck at 34/100 for like, 5 minutes.

Also. I just finished a sort of dry run of a 1/1000th scale TOS Enterprise. I haven't put together an actual model in years and years, so I just wanted to get my feet wet.

For what it was, it came out just fine. But then I looked online at this guy's build of the same kit (keep in mind that this is 1/1000th scale and roughly 11.5 inches long) and I felt like giving up on modeling forever. Something to work towards, I suppose.

I found a good use for bridge officers just sitting around... I've mailed them to my alt. I'm rocking a nice purple science officer at level 10.

Did one of those when I was about 9-10. Enterprise A, I guess right around when ST V released. Only model I ever bought/built. Turned out pretty crappy, since I didn't really have much model paint. But it was still cool enough to keep on my shelf for years.

At least it faired better than the film {zing!}.

Seriously, look at this guy's photos - you can just skip ahead to the 3rd page if you want. It makes me want to weep.

Wow, that's some fine looking date-repellent. Seriously, though, quality work. I, too, wish I had the patience.

The summary for "The 4800" feature series episode, "Facility 4028," is up over at Massively for those that are interested.

I played through it Saturday night. Didn't take all that long and was pretty combat heavy, this time around. Ground combat, that is. Overall, though, I thought it was in keeping with the quality of the rest of the series thus far: good plot/story, good cutscenes, reasonably decent combat. I'm starting to miss space battles, though, as there haven't been many in this series...

Still, worth checking out!

Hey guys, hate to see do so, but I'm leaving the CWJ fleet. Not many folks are on, and when you are, you're almost never on Vent or doing level-50 missions. I've fallen in with a bunch of guys from another (non-gaming site) and will be doing STFs and whatnot with them. But this doesn't mean I've abandoned everyone. If you want any items from memory alpha, just contact me by PM here or by message in game to Keithustus-Mirror@Keithustus or Keithustus@Keithustus. See you around.

I've found that there are generally quite a few folks on, just never talking. As for the vent thing, I generally eschew firing it up because I'm watching something on Netflix or Amazon. GL to ya though
