The Playstation Vita Catch-All

Finished Uncharted : Golden Abyss - REALLY enjoyed it. Suprisingly, probably my favorite of the games since the first one (Not being able to rely on flashy set pieces and a greater balance of puzzles/exploration to combat works in it's favour I think). Definitely going to go back and try to grab some of the (MANY) collectables I missed.

Wow, have no idea what to think. Reactions seem slightly all over the map. Michael Abbott's (brainygamer.com) thoughts dissuaded me, but maybe I'll check it out after all. The 10-ton gorilla known as The Show might prevent me, however.

I'm having a damn good time with it (roughly 1/4 of the way through), but I never played any of the PS3 Uncharted games, so I might not have the full basis of comparison that some other reviewers have.

I like it. I see a good future for 3rd person shooters with motion aiming to add precision.

Alright! Vita Get!

The key thing that sold my wife? I immediately loaded netflix and let her watch some shows.

Here's something I figured out the hard way:

It seems that hitting the power button to put the system into standby mode kills the wifi and any downloads in progress.

If you let it idle and go into standby on it's own, the downloads will continue while it sleeps.

Correct! I forgot to mention that in my tips post.

Why can't every Vita game support custom soundtracks via Vita Music? Seems really ridiculous that this isn't a mandate, or at least an easily implemented feature in the PSV Suite/SDK. Hell, the d/l game Mutant Blobs Attack! has it. What're the other developers excuses?

I would guess a late development addition of the feature. I suspect we'll see more of it in future titles.

So what have you gotten for you Vita Toddland?

Netflix, mostly. Also Wipeout and Mutant Blob. And Twitter.

Just thought I'd share this here with fellow Canadian Vita owners

Best Buy in Canada is offering a 10$ discount on a game over 30$ with this coupon

You just need to have a reward zone card registered in the Gamer's Club (free and can be done in store)

The world block in Lumines was erased in 5 minutes, 42 seconds today (Sunday). Ubisoft needs to increase it to more than 2 million blocks, that's obviously nowhere near enough if it's disappearing in under 6 minutes.

And Twitter.

I didn't expect Vita to get me interested in Twitter, but now I'm constantly checking for updates like I do my RSS and forum tracker. When I signed up for Twitter I initially couldn't get a good grasp on the UI, and the whole system was very obtuse for me, so I never used it. With the Vita's app, I was able to easily understand and come to learn how Twitter is used. A simplified design can do wonders.

I ALMOST signed back up to facebook because of the Vita. Nope. Not gonna do it. I'm not reactivating my account.

I think we are going to try and setup a league for The Show. Not sure how the online component will be, but we sure are going to try.

Sweet. I'm in Vegas this weekend, but I have my local game store holding The Show for both PS3 and Vita whenever they come in.

Is anyone having network issues with their Vita? Mine connects to PSN a fraction of the time. I'm trying to look up a port range I should open on my router, but I'm coming up with nothing.

We sure are.

Should we set up a thread over in the Sports forum or keep it here?

I call the Athletics.

I haven't had too many network problems, but within the last day or so the near app encounters an error getting or transmitting my location.

I had originally disregarded the vita as my pap never got much use, but after all the positive impressions I keep hearing I'm seriously considering it. I need to go mess with a demo unit and once I find out what my bonus is this year on Tuesday, I'll see what happens.

In the era of smartphones and tablets, I am surprised to see so much Netflix and twitter use on the Vita. I thought the web sucked on the PSP. Why is it getting traction on the Vita?

PSP didn't have apps. PSP's browser was terrible, but at the same time, Vita's is only adequate. If I'm gaming, why move over to the computer, or smart phone if you have one, when you can near as easily do it from your system? Of course, non-3G use is another story.

Only problem so far has been horribly slow download speeds from PSN--far slower than on my PS3.

Oddly enough, I'm finding the Vita vastly faster than my PS3 - both on the same WiFi connection.

Seems to be the consensus.

PSN is supposed to be down for maintenance today isn't it?

Just an FYI, I posted in the Monster Hunter Freedom Unite thread to hopefully gather some GWJers for some multiplayer.
