the Stan signal

Now there's an idea... can we just point an enormous spotlight at the ceiling and lay a Stan cutout on the glass?

Hahaha

For anyone who has special dietary needs during the Easter Weekend (or in general) you should probably fill out this survey they linked off Twitter: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...

Well if you two are going to be doing D&D next... I may have to ruin your day by joining.

On the Stan thoughts where can one find a nice high-res copy of Stan? I am looking at Artscow.com and thinking evil thoughts...

Hey Rabbit, I saw your tweet about the live conference call on Friday. Will there be room for a live audience?

+1

Well I made a 10 pack of these. I will need two and will share the rest at PAX.

If you want to make your own there is a promo right now for 20% off and free shipping use code FEBSALE20.

Edit: I am still looking for a higher res Stan for another project... I was looking at the pillow cases and they might with a little modification make a cheap flag...

Wouldn't that be required for a "live" show?

Putting bets on Ken Levine as a guest, any takers?

Yeah, for those of you who may not have seen on Twitter, GWJCC will be broadcasting live on Friday @ noon from PAX East at the Manticore Theater with special guests to be announced soon.

Apparently this is a somewhat largish venue, so there should be plenty of room. Don't make us lonely and sad, come to the show!

Also, a bunch of us will be at the show all weekend so I hope to get to meet a ton of you while I'm there.

Make sure you come to the board game area, a large contingent will be there all weekend.

Speaking of coming to the show, from what I saw last year we'll have to camp out pretty far in advance to get in. Anybody have some ideas for non-handheld games to play while waiting in line?

Red Rover?

If they're giving out Magic decks again, there's always that. There's supposed to be a pass and play AR game for Vita that Shawn was recommending on twitter.

Werewolf depending on the group size. I'll try to think of some more...

Also my wife and I have for the last couple years tried to get there nice and early so we can wait in line for a nice chunk of time. It made more since the first year to get tickets to the show at night. But we did it last year too just for fun. I think it would be fun if a bunch of goodjers got together to wait in line on Friday.

Schedule is up!

(take a drink Tanglebones :p)

I'm hoping they'll let us bring booze into the hall for a live version of the drinking game

Fuuuuuuck, now I'm trying to see if I can attend.

Hmm... no Rob on the Conf Call panel?

I don't see my favorite panel from the last 2 years. If they got rid of the crowdsourced Top 10 list I'm going to be incredibly sad.

There's a good mix of panels this year, although not as many directly appeal to me as in the past. So more time for the expo and hopefully board games this year pending discussion with Demyx about panels we want to see.

Definitely checking out the Epic Games one though in hopes they show the new engine or talk about a new Unreal game or show that tower defense game

Also scheduling the IGF and Rain-Slick panels opposite each other (and the concert) is cruel.

Here is the straight info on the GWJ panel. Special guests Jeff Green and Ken Levine shaking their canes at "kids these days" and tell them to "get off my lawn."

Gamers With Jobs Presents: Gaming For Grown-ups
Manticore Theatre, Friday 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Who said this was a young man's game? The gaming industry is getting older and so are its players. How have we changed as gamers as we become parents, responsible employees, business owners and *horror* adults? Do we spend more to play less? Do we wax nostalgic for an era that never really existed? Join us as we delve into what gaming means to us in our 30s, 40s and *gasp* 50s as we stumble ever closer to the grim reaper's dark embrace.

Are the enforcers going to be carding people to keep the "twenty-somethings" and younger out?

Rob is way too pretty.

I'm a twenty-something!

No. For one thing, most of them wouldn't be able to be in the room either if we did that.

I'll have to see if I can get away to attend this. My evil minion will be on her own for a while there.

So I just looked at the schedule, and I think I'm going to need a spreadsheet of it, and after that, I'll need to decide on a mere handful of possible panels to see. So far there are three I must do, but honestly, I had a lot of fun just wandering the show floor playing upcoming games last year. I think I'll need to be doing that.

Also: I'm torn between seeing the new Dragon Age animation, the concert, and the Rain Slick panel.

Hold on, I think I can rationalize this.

Dragon Age is being released in America by FUNimation, who is notorious for really sh*tty American voice actors. Pass.

Protomen were awesome last year, but with the exception of one song, their music has a very monotonous feel, like they're basically rearranging the same song over and over. It's a fun show, but not a "MUST SEE!". Passable.

Hearing the discontinuing of Rain Slick was one of the most sad days of my life.

I think I know what I'm doing Friday night.

My experience last year was that panels weren't worth the time invested in them for the most part; I'll hit up the GWJ one, but probably pass on the rest for more gaming with goodjers.

+1 (surprise, surprise)

This is largely how Shop and I felt on the matter.

Wow, they got the whole band together for the show, including our grand poobah!

And here's another one we might all have to go to:

Strategy Games: What's Changing. What Needs To.
Cat Theatre
Sunday 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Is there more to the modern strategy game than yet another round of Civilization and Starcraft? There darn well better be. Join the hosts of the Three Moves Ahead podcast, Rob Zacny, Julian Murdoch and Troy Goodfellow, as they discuss the innovations that are changing the face of the modern strategy game. They'll be joined by special guests representing two poles of strategy games - Chris King (Paradox), a hardcore strategy dev targeting niche PC strategy gamers, and Rob Daviau (Hasbro), a board game designer trying to reignite the masses with daring (even blasphemous) twists on old classics.
Panelists include: Rob Zacny [Columnist, PC Gamer], Julian Murdoch [Contributor, Kill Screen], Troy Goodfellow [Publisher, Flash of Steel], Rob Daviau [Game Designer, Hasbro], Chris King [Designer/Producer, Paradox Interactive]
