NFL 2011-2012 Off-Season Pre-Draft Catch-All

In any event, this looks like a rebuilding year for the Skins. I just don't see them breaking 500 no matter how they draft.

Yeah, they have way too many areas of need to be any good for at least 2-3 years. This is assuming they make good personnel decisions, which has not been the strong point of the organization for at least a decade.

All they need is Tim Tebow.

All they need is Tim Tebow.

OMG, noooooooooo!

Take that back! Take it back, now!

Dam, RGIII ran a 4.41 and 4.38. Well, at least we know he could play WR if the whole QB thing doesn't work.

ESPN reports rumors of Washington looking to trade for Tim Tebow.

You are a bad person Kush.

Pretty well done, but The Kitty Kat Dance is more traditional here at GWJ. Possibly newer users don't know? Alas!

Time to move to new territory.

ESPN reports Daniel Snyder sells Redskins.

I think I've discovered something worse than FOX's NFL coverage: FOX's NASCAR coverage.

The St. Louis Rams have decided to trade the No. 2 pick, league sources said Monday.

According to sources, the Rams already have had trade discussions with the Cleveland Browns (No. 4), Washington Redskins (No. 6) and Miami Dolphins (No. 8), each of whom is scheduled to pick in the top eight in April's draft.

probably best move especially if they can create a bidding frenzy for RG3

Keeping that pick would be the worst move they could make.

Just wait till ESPN takes over. Dale Jarrett makes Troy Aikman look like the second coming of John Madden. And Rusty Wallace makes me want to strangle a kitten.

Back on topic: The buzz now is all about Robert Griffin III. What are his pro prospects? About all I know about him is that (a) he won the Heisman and (b) he's apparently awesome.

The thing is that they have this split screen thing they use during commercials so you don't miss anything and they weren't using for most of the race, including the crash that started that jet fuel fire. And when they did fire it up what were they showing? Drivers standing around their cars.

TNT rolled out the split screen a few years ago for NASCAR, and it's common on the Indy Car races. I agree: The split screen is terrible.

RG III is super athletic and a great passer. If I compared him to Cam Newton, I'd say he's a better passer but not as good as a runner (although his combine 40 time was excellent). He also seems to be of good character, for teams that are allergic to knuckleheads.

Even though he went to the hated Baylor, I would absolutely love to have him on my team. I don't think he's a lock to be a great NFL QB, but I don't see why he couldn't have a long career as a starter. There are some pretty lame starters out there, granted.

Will Snyder give away everything the Skins have for a shot at RGIII?

Much improved.

1) Hell yeah.

2) See, Vector digs it. That's because Vector is old school as F**K. Rock on.

I was going to make the same comment you did but you beat me to it. GWJ vets, we need some chevrons.

And, on the lighter side, a 55 year old grandmother is trying out to become a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.

Click on the thumbnail to "enlarge photo", and you get sent to a page where the exact same thumbnail image is stretched to a larger size.

Seriously, Yahoo?

No need to get worked up. If your into that sort of stuff I'm sure there are some "GILF" websites where you can get full size photos.

Ick.

Oh, and then there's Bountygate.

Rat Boy wrote:

Keep it classy, Saints.

Man, the Saints were living in sin in multiple ways when they won the Super bowl. Everyone remember Pain Killer Gate?

The bounties certainly constitute unsavory and unethical behavior, as well as a violation of NFL rules. But based on the revelations to this point (and contra the apparent popular view in places like the PFT comments) I don't yet consider this a scandal on the order of the Patriots' Spygate, since the game of football already has mechanisms to address excessive roughness on the field: penalties, ejections, fines, and suspensions. So whereas the Spygate stuff had plausibly significant on-the-field consequences for how games played out, the Saints' bounty scandal points more to bad behavior behind the scenes. On the field, the Saints' defense has in recent years garnered some attention for dirty play, but not to the same extent as certain more notorious units, and neither have they received extraordinary fines or other penalties.

It's pretty well known that players exchange money among themselves in the locker room for a variety of reasons; they even levy unofficial cash "fines" on one another. What's particularly bad about this money-ring is (1) that it involved unsportsmanlike malice aforethought, and (2) it seems to have been instigated not by the players, but by Gregg Williams, with the knowledge and implicit approval of Payton and Loomis. As to (1), unsportsmanlike malice aforethought is of course common throughout the league, but far worse for it to be conjoined with a system of cash reward. And as to (2), it shows that poor ethics are sustained and systemic, and not just the result of a few players' bad judgment as to the proper bounds of locker-room shenanigans.

I do expect the Saints to suffer a penalty in the draft (though I hope not as severe as the Patriots' penalty). Sigh, as if our draft position weren't weak enough already this year... what a shame.

It's both worse and not as bad as Spygate. Not as bad in that it's not "cheating", at least not as one typically thinks of that word. Much worse in that it's about trying to seriously hurt other people.
