GWJ-ATX 2013: Third Monday Movies

GAH, why didn't I see this thread before? Make sure you do another one so I can go next time

Will likely be there a bit after 530.

Whoa. Got home, flipped on our free hbo trial, and what is on? Back to the future.

Thanks to all who showed. It was a pleasure meeting those of you that I didn't know previously and it was good to see again those that I did. I trust you all had a good enough time to try a gathering again next month. I'll update the original post to make it February-focused tomorrow.

So what's it going to be? I missed the last one and I'd like another shot to do some slapping and/or tickling.

The floor is open.

I don't know what to suggest, but I'll show up.

Hopefully will be closer to the action fairly soon.

One option may be to go with something more conducive to interaction this time...

D&B?
Pinballz?

Admittedly, I've not been to either, yet. And, of course, the floor is still open.

I've heard great things about Pinballz and have friends that have gone a lot. I was pretty underwhelmed by D&B though. It's really only racing and shooting games, plus the usual ticket games.

I recommend Austin's Park if you're looking for a longer event.

I think Pinballz is BYOB as well which is pretty nice.

Well given the lack of input from the masses, I'm going to make the executive decision and go with Pinballz. When?

Edit: Just to be clear, I'm going to continue the "trend" of doing this on Saturdays so the "when" is really about which Saturday, of the two remaining, and at what time?

I vote for the 25th. Can't make it the 18th.

I've been looking for a reason to buy a flask, and this is as good as any.

For the record, I was already thinking that 4 days was too-short notice so I'm leaning that way as well.

I had no idea Pinballz existed. I like that these meetups are going to show me all the fun places in town for dorks.

Ok, making it official. Pinballz, 2/25. Time?

You can put me down as going, I just hope there's at least a few other goodjers willing to go.

Well with all that awesome input...

...I guess I'll just make another executive decision.

I'm aiming to arrive between 6 and 6:30 (just like last month) and burn through some quarters for a while. According to the website, they have a nominal food offering, but I expect to slip out for more robust fare at some point. After dinner, we can head back (they're open until 1), head home, or head elsewhere, depending on the whim of the group.

Of course, at the moment, I'm not even sure that anyone's coming...

Yay!

I understand; I wouldn't want to be stuck alone with me, either.

Well I helped *Legion* move today so he better come.

...and I IM'd with Devmani last week and he said he was probably in as long as it was in the evening.

I already was coming. I'll pretty much come to every one of these things. I must transform myself from a hermit into a slightly rehabilitated hermit.

At least now, it won't be an hour-and-a-half drive back and forth.

Anyway, as far as this specific iteration of GWJ Austin Meetup, there better be at least enough people to fill up the 6-man X-Men game. Never played it with a full roster.

I think we have 4 so far, right?

Me
Grump
Legion
Devmani (maybe?)

IM'd with both Devmani and Souldaddy today. Both are in for sure. I'm going to try to get Slytin to come out as well.

Edit: If you've already posted in this thread, don't be hurt that I didn't PM you directly. I figure you're "subscribed" at this point and can keep up with it without being nagged.

Can't make it this weekend. See yall in March though.

I'll try come on out. Does this place have beer?

They don't sell inside, though.

BYOB works.

aaaaand I'm back home. It was fun, thanks for throwing this together Grump. My lips are still a little numb from that crazy-spicy orange beef, but it was all worth it. Hopefully I can make it up for the March one, but if it's during St. Patty's, I might have plans here in SA.

Sorry I couldn't make it this time, guys (dealing with some medical stuff), but I hope to be there next month.

Thanks to Sinkwater for making the drive up from S.A. It was great meeting you. Thanks to *Legion* and Devmani for coming out as well, of course. Pinballz was fun enough to repeat again eventually (like in the fall), but I think it would be even better with a larger group... and perhaps we can try it on a Wednesday at some point.

-----

February's event is in the books and I'd like to start thinking about March because I noticed that St. Patrick's Day is on a Saturday. Would this be a good day to try to gather? Or a day best avoided because everyone has plans with their real friends?

At some point (e.g. the next time we manage a quorum), I'd like to break out a calendar and try to plan out dates (specific activities optional) at least a couple month's in advance, if not for the rest of the year. Once the weather gets good - but before it gets hot - perhaps we might even do something during daylight hours (like paintball?)... but I digress.

So, who has some thoughts on March? If not 3/17, when?

I have no idea if the place is worth going to or not, but with all the driving into town from 290 that I've done over the past few months, one place always caught my eye as I drove by: BLAZER TAG.

Has anyone been? Is it a pit, or an awesome laser-blasting experience? And if it sucks, is there any other awesome laser-blasting experience in Austin?
