Thoughts?

I signed up for the thing about four seconds after I was pointed at the site and the email all sounds very nice.

However, if it's meant to be 3025, the Atlas in the middle of the image now revealed on the site is all wrong.

Yes, I'm one of those people.

I signed up too, but I'm wondering, is this MechCommander meets Frozen Synapse?

Signed up.

It looks horrible, I much prefer the true 3025 Atlas anyway. It also looks like a few of the other mechs aren't what I remember, but it has been a bit long for me.

I'm dang excited about this.

Wasn't there something about the new BattleTech being a reboot? Could this be using that universe and not the original? For me, either way is fine. I always wanted a turn-based MW.

It's a pretty horrible rendition of the Atlas. The Awesome isn't much better but the Jenner and Hunchback look about what I expect.

Neat. But all this talk of "collecting" gives me the impression they're going to sell new mechs as figures, Skylanders style. I hope I'm wrong.

To me it sounds like a loot pickup combined with purchasable stuff. I'd think TF2.

Honestly, the more I read the description, the more this sounds like a cheap tie-in game, a la, the Facebook Dragon Age or anything you'd find on the Cartoon Network website.

I so hope you're wrong. Hopefully we'll have some screenshots soon.

So do I...to both counts.

I like the look of the mechs but I don't see a hunchback anywhere among them.

Left to right I see:

little awesome, littler awesome, jenner, jumping jenner, little centurion, centurion, atlas, little awesome, big awesome, slightly bigger than little awesome, little centurion

Oh how I wish this was in the vein of mechcommander's real time combat...

The concept art version is wrong, too. (Note: linked slideshow includes other, better-looking-than-the-Atlas, concept art as well.)

Edit: It's the same set as on Facebook, except you can make them bigger on Facebook.

To the right of the rock formation, in the background. Looking at the other mechs, could be a Dragon, I guess.

I also don't see a Hunchback.

I played the Mechwarrior P&P RPG for a loooooong time and had some pretty intense city battles in a Hunch. I converted it into a 4P with the 8xML too and that was fun.

Mostly, I hope they have my shadowHawk. By the time my MechWarrior was done with it, it was a pile of poorly serviced junk because we had a long stretch where stupid House Marik didn't pay us for stuff, but I loved that thing.

Is this a facebook game?

Ah - the concept art Hunchback looks nothing like the 3025 Hunch.

Clearly these people don't like Mech Hands.

Full banner image. Given that the banner concept art doesn't even match their own slideshow concept art, I'm not even going to bother commenting on the designs.

More interesting is the names in the footer.
IGP we already "know" from MWO.

The other two, though, are Roadhouse Interactive and A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. Games. (For the record, Piranha Games is the dev for MWO.) Considering both of them cite Unity on their respective sites, I think we can guess what engine it will be running on. (Note: Roadhouse and Acronym are working together on Family Guy Online according to the latter's website.)

Edit:

No.

I have a soft spot for shadowhawks for sure. Unfortunately, I don't see one in the concept art =(

And looking at the concept art it is very hit and miss. But the biggest offender is the hunchback. It is a cool design but you can't just throw an AC on the shoulder of a mech and call it a hunchback.

The atlas in the concept looks good but, as is atlas typical, the helmet is so out of place.
My favorite is the grasshopper. The catapult looks good, as does the spider and jenner.
The dragon, and trebuchet are ok.
I am not a fan of the orion, awesome (looked much better in the title page) and stalker.

Oh sweet zombie Jeebus. That would be frakkin' awesome!

Signed up even though the word 'collect' sits like a turd in my bowl of corn flakes.

I think you're collecting the wrong things.

Really shouldn't be eating your breakfast out of the toilet either.

Could be, I do have an irrational love for the Panther Mech.

Important safety tip. I'll write that one down.

As a general rule, I know why some companies do the collectable thing. I just can't kick them all in the crotch. So many crotches, so little time. Perhaps I'm just bitter about the 'booster pack' thing in ME3 and I don't want to see my second most favorite thing tainted with what has always been a point buy system (tonnage or BVs)?

Oh man... In MW4 Mercs I loaded up a Panther with, I want to say, more than a dozen medium lasers and completely p0wned the Solaris light mech circuit. It was specifically medium lasers, not er medium lasers. This lessened heat issues and the er's range boost didn't matter as much with fast closing mechs in a confined arena.

For roughly the same cost in C-Bills, four Panthers can go all wolf pack on an Atlas and PPC yo-yo it to death. it would be interesting to see if the laser boat versions could jump and hide until they could get close and out flank in order to rip its rear armor to shreds.

This is exactly what I thought of, as well.

You know, a lot of the original 3025 designs were just stupid.

And poorly drawn.

And so was a lot of old school D&D, leave the old man to his nostalgia.
