Disgaea 4 Catch-All

Good. Gawd.

Damn. So far I have the one free one.

Maybe if they release a full-pack at a slightly discounted price again... but apparently that won't be until June when everything is out?

I'm once again planning to swap out my 360 for a PS3 in the near future. What are the odds of some kind of GotY version of this with the DLC included?

I'm thinking not very likely. For Disgaea 3 they did a discounted DLC package with all of the DLC included though.

I'm not sure if it's really necessary to get it all either.

DLC for a Disgaea game is not necessary. At all.

Fuka and Desco show sounds awesome though.

I don't know, Stele. That would mean I'd have to hear more of Desco's voice, right? They want $20 for that?

Most of that DLC is overpriced and unnecessary. I've bought the extra classes (except the Deathsaber because come on, seriously?) and the Disgaea 2 characters.

Why doesn't Lobster like Desco? Desco just wants to be a final boss!

To me the D2 characters are still just terrible monster addons to DS-Disgaea. I really wish they would port D2, or I guess I'll have to eventually grab a PSP/Vita.

Whoa. It finally happened.

Of course now that D2 has been announced, I'm not sure how much time I want to spend on 4 anymore. Might want to save up for that instead.

But the extra class packs might be worth a few bucks. Celestial Host, Kunoichi, Prism Ranger. Is that it?

Oh man, how much is all that stuff?

What is D2 (if not Disgaea 2)

Disgaea: D2

A true sequel to the first game, with Laharl, Flonne, Etna, etc. starring.

Also the Death Saber (just a powered-up Cat Saber), Medic and Necromancer. Some of the unique characters are pretty great, too. Adell uses fists but has an ability that extends his attack range by one square, which is way more useful than it sounds. I also like him as a character.

NISA released a $50 pack that contained all of the DLC for D3 but I'm not sure if they're doing that this time around.

As a newbie to Disgaea (I have yet to open the shrink wrap on Disgaea 4), should I worry about any of these add-ons or just play the game out of the box?

The game is fine (and huge) out of the box. You might want to pick up the Necromancer, Medic, Celestial Host and Kunoichi classes, but keep in mind you won't be able to unlock them until the post-game anyway. Pirate Survival Duel and Survival Mode are new game modes and The Flashback Episode and The Fuka & Desco Show are traditional, "more story"-style DLC, but the rest of it is pretty much just for fans of other NISA games.

Yeah doesn't seem like it.

Can't decide if I should splurge now or just wait for D:D2 and its inevitable DLC.

I love NIS games and I haven't bothered with any of the DLC for 4. Then again, I haven't spent that much time with the game overall as D3 on my Vita sacked me back in.

Also I believe the Vita version of D3 is DLC complete? So it might make sense to wait for the inevitable D4 Vita if you roll that way.

A few days ago my wife wasn't feeling well and demanded that I dig out Disgaea 4 and start a new game so that I hold still on the couch long enough for her to cuddle with me. Cut to several days later. The wife is at her parent's for dinner and I'm... on the couch. The old itch is back. Yet it was sort of hilarious. Neither of us could remember clearly what this one was 'about.' We kept remembering story points of D3 and really the only thing we remembered of this one was Sardines. Now that I'm 5 chapters in it's sort of coming back to me, but only as vague deja-vu while the story plays out.

SARDINES

Vita trailer.

Wait what?

D4 is getting a release on Vita.

Oh, it's not a full sequel.

Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited, the Vita release of D4 will launch on August 12th in NA.

Reminder that the Vita release of D4 comes out in a few weeks.

I'm considering just doing a Disgaea Series Catch-all as it's expected that NIS is going to officially announce Disgaea 5 at TGS. D5 is expected to be a PS4 release.

But will it be like the first couple ps3 releases where they used ps2 quality assets? :p

And it is! And I did!
