Breaking Bad: "Do it yourself"

Spoiler:

Wow, I guess since they had access to the amazing Walking Dead makeup team (Greg Nicotero himself, if I'm not mistaken) they figured they put them to good use. And boy did they. What a great season-ender. I'd be perfectly happy if they'd just ended the show there, loose ends and all, rather than risk the chance of blowing it in the last season.

Just finished season 4. Wow. Awesome final episode.

Yes, indeed. That scene in the nursing home, when he walked out of the room, and then the camera swings around ... so awesome.

The entire show was extremely well directed. Great camera angles and shots, and fantastic storytelling through judicial use of cuts and edits.

In my opinion, Walt is no 'hero' (in a story sense), and was in fact pretty vile ...

Spoiler:

having Gail murdered, and in the final episode he sends his neighbor in to 'feel out' the house for danger. Then in the final shot, we see the poisonous plant in his backyard, indicating Walt poisoned Brock ... why? Then there's the whole thing with cooking meth and allowing his work to be put out into the market

He truly did 'break bad'

Just got into the show a few weeks ago thanks to Netflix. Just finished season 2. We had to stop watching on weeknights so we would go to bed at a decent hour.

IMHO, Walt went beyond redemption when he

Spoiler:

allowed that girl to choke on her own vomit just to keep Jessie in the country.

Walt is certainly no hero.

Spoiler Question of "Why?"

Walt does awful things, but there's always enough logic behind it that he can justify his actions to himself, when he does actually think about them.

Spoiler:

Walt needed Jessie on his side, because Jessie had access to Gus, but by that point, Jessie was so thoroughly pissed off at him, it would take something drastic. At that point, Walt had nothing to lose--he poisons Brock, and either Jessie straight up kills him, or listens to the very credible scenario Walt has invented. And based on his relief when Jessie said the kid would be OK, this was clearly a huge gamble, but he was thinking that if he didn't do it, Gus would kill him, which was true. Likewise, he can justify letting Jane die, because she's a junkie, and if she'd run off with Jessie they'd either both end up dead, or they'd burn through their cash and come back demanding more. It makes Walt far more frightening, because he's credible.

For my money, Walt's point of no return was when he didn't take the out that Elliot and Gretchen offered him. Everything that he's done and has happened to him since then has been inevitable.

Good points, both of you. It's funny though, because regarding the hero thing (in a story sense), despite all this evil sh*t he does, you still find yourself pulling for him somewhat, at least I did. I should say that I mean I was pulling for Walt when it came down to final moments in the Gus situation.

Another disappointment, character-wise, was Skyler:

Spoiler:

She goes from indignation, to complicity and money-laundering. Thereagain though, she's able to justify it to herself -- (help Hank).

I found myself pulling for Hank, and my deepest sympathy was towards Walt Jr, who was a great character offset to Walt Sr. The kid that played Walt Jr did a wonderful job, btw.

It'll be interesting to see what season 5 brings.

About the last episode:

Spoiler:

Was about to come here and wonder why they didn't title it "faceoff". Then I check and OF COURSE THEY TITLED IT "FACEOFF". Outstanding.

This is amazing.

*MAJOR SPOILERS* if you haven't caught up. Otherwise, enjoy.

Thread title lies! Breaking Bad is not back yet...

Happy Valentine's Day!

My god this show is unreal. We are working our way through it on Netflix on are 4 episodes into Season 3. I can count maybe 2 episodes total that were less than stellar, but even they were light years better than anything else on TV.

This show is already an easy second to The Wire as far as I'm concerned, and if it keeps the pace..

Dammit, I thought this bump was going to be about Season 5 starting. *shakes fist*

DO NOT WATCH if you aren't caught up... heavy spoilers.

Awesome. I can't wait for the final season!!!

Maaaan, I'd convinced myself I was living high on the hog, gorged on Justified, Game of Thrones, and Mad Men, until you had to go remind me I'm not watching a new season of Breaking Bad, too. Thanks for nothing. Just kidding, that was pretty sweet.

Here's a fan-made full credit sequence, which is also pretty sweet:

Yes, but as soon as the Mad Men season kicks off, the new BB season begins!

I instantly regret canceling my cable TV yesterday.

Is this true and confirmed? Set in stone? Don't make me toss mercury fulminate in your lair.

The internet tells me the new season starts in July.

According to this, Bryan Cranston says season is being spilt into two. First part being aired in July and second part will not air until 2013.

...Well, that all makes sense. But there not being official word makes me wary. I'll put down my mercury fulminate for now, but if July comes and goes without Breaking Bad, you all will have a lot of broken glass to sweep up.

Also keep in mind that each half season is getting 8 episodes. Seems like an appropriate way to end the show, on one MEGA-season. I don't mind the wait, Mad Men's filling in that role just fine.

True, I'm hoping it's won't br official. Aaron Paul retweeted this article it also, so I doubt we will see no-break season.

Beginning July 15th. There will be 8 episodes, then a break for a f*cking year god damn it all, and the last 8 will be 2013.

Soooo, what they mean to say is there's a sixth season.

weird set up..but will take what I can get

"In the game of meth, you win or you die!"

Man, can't wait!

I seriously love this show! It's been so great watching the arc of his life. Telltale should make a game based on the show.
