GWJ BCS League, Season II (360): BCS Bowl Week (League Deadline: 4/4/12 @ 11:59pm EST)

Boston College barley gets by West Virgina. It was a game of nothing but defense. Zell took the lead early 7-0 I was lucky to tie it up at the end of the first. Then West Virgina took a 14-7 lead into the fourth quarter. I got into the red zone and my running back fumbles the ball recovered by the defense. I was able to get the ball back and was able to put up a TD pass to my tight end. I gave up a big return and WVU let the clock run down to kick the field goal and it just bounced off the cross bar. In OT WVU took no time in scoring to go up 21-14. I was able to get a TD to bring it to 21-20 and I decided to either win or lose and went for two. MY full back almost missed his block but was able to cut the guy at the last second as I got in for 2. Final Score BC 22- WVU 21. Zell's defense kept me from doing anything coming up with multiple sacks in the same drive to just kill me. My heart was pounding the whole game and still is right now. Best game I have played in a long time. I tip my hat to you good sir.

nevermind.....sorry...sour grapes. Good game. I knew there was no way to stop that combo of your FB and RB on the three...I thought about going for it myself when I scored that last TD and decided against it. Good game man...you got a good team. I hope to play you in the Conference championship or a bowl game or something. Well earned victory.

Again...sorry for exploding like that.

Just...after all that...to walk away in defeat...I really do feel sick....and a little shaky from the surge of adrenalin.

If I woudl have lost this I would have reacted the same way. In fact when I fumbled in the red zone I scared my wif who was slepping on the couch by yelling WTF HOLD ON TO THE BALL!! I thought for sure you would hit that kick with no problem. My kicker is terrible which is why early in the game I punted instead of taking a 47 yard field goal.

If things continue the way they are in the 2* league we may play a third time for the MAC championship.

yesh...I figured as much...Marshall's kicker is the same way, which is why unless i'm inside the 25 i wont even try it. WVU's is better...able to hit from farther out. I thought I had it, but when I called that last time out, it iced him. Then when I saw it go up I started screaming "WTF, HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU MISS THAT!!!!" so loud that my roommate came running in to make sure I wasnt dying. I seriously was in such shock after this game...I wanted to curse you to the depths of Hades for going for it instead of taking the tie...I was so dumbfounded though looking at the score. I just sat there for a minute and shook from head to toe....then I threw my (now empty) plastic cup against the wall so hard it shattered. Feeling kinda childish now that I said that, but eh....I love my football. I really want a rematch sometime though. That was easily the closest/funnest/hardest game I have played in a while. What a win...you earned it.

I figured my luck with the way my team was playing it was somehow going to bounce over the cross bar. I had to go for it because had I gone for the tie something else would have bit me to cause me to lose so figured should either win or lose right there and I hav run that play so many times and its 50/50 if my FB gets that block. I almost called a timeout to go to kick it because I was expecting a goalline defense not something spread out how you were. I figured screw it go big or go home. And that last play before half time I alsmot freaked out my catches it and gets tackled at the goalline I was like you have to be kiding what do I have to do to score?

yeah...I was going to run a goalline, but had just been beat on that same play and didnt have enough time to pick anything other than that D. I was mashing the timeout button but it didnt call one before you snapped the ball.

And yeah....you catching it on the one as time expired kinda sucked for you. I had the same thing happen in the madden league. It was the AFC Championship in season one of the Madden 11 league. I was the Ravens playing against Ihadia who was the Bills.
4 seconds to go in the game, I am on Balitmore's 40 and down by 4 points. I bomb this beautiful pass to Boldin, who catches it at the 15 as time expires and is able to run it to the 2yrd line before being pulled down by the Bills FS. I couldnt believe all the times he kicked out of a tackle, and he couldnt do it the one time he needed to.

Thats how I felt about my running back today in any other game he is able to break one or two tackles a run it seems and get extra yards. Outside of maybe one or two runs anytime he got touched he went down. I think my FB had some better runs then my RB did. The rush I got jut tieing the game was amazing. I figured the game was going to end 14-7. And how your QB got rid of that ball in the end zone after I fumbled it to you I will never know. I thought for sure I had a safety coming.

I thought you might too...I was just mashing the LB button trying to dump it out to the RB. It was luck it didnt end disastrously.

Then there was the play in the third quarter....my receiver had your FS and CB beat like a red headed stepchild....yet my QB threw it just a little to far out of reach.

looking at the Conference standings, unless one of us gets upset once or twice, we will be playing again in the championship game. Add to that, in the two star league, (I cant rule anything out yet) but its looking like the same thing. That would be odd....and epic at the same time...both our meetings have come down to the wire. It will be fun to see what happens.

Counting out Rutgers, are you? I may be (1-3), but aside from WVU, the tough part of my schedule is over. If I run the table, which I almost did last season, I will represent our half of the Big East.

Of course, you're playing for revenge from last year's Rutgers/Marshall matchup, no doubt you will be looking to put a good hurting on my squad.

Rutgers is done recruiting for the week, that leaves Hoppa as the last man standing for Week 6.

I figured screw it go big or go home.

Yup. This is a good motto in those situations.

I don't remember if it was Leroy or Counselar, but we had several very close games in the last 2* league. Two games in a row I had the same sort of thing happen: scoring a TD in the last seconds of the game or in OT. Both times I went for two and was successful. My thinking in each case was that I didn't think I could stop him in OT and wasn't confident in my ability to score.

So, thumbs up on this philosophy.

P.S. If it was Leroy, I'm not sure I've beaten him since... So, I'm not sure what that says (other than that I suck).

By the way, after beating Minnesota 42-3 last week, I was greeted with a "Coach Feedback" screen on the Xbox this week that said: "Our boys clearly weren't prepared for Minnesota."

Granted, 35 of my points were scored in the second half, but I would have won even if I hadn't scored those points since my defense held MN to 3 fricking points!

All of our close ones came down to field goals as time expired

Well, between beating me last year and seeing how bad I want to rematch BC, you are going to have quite the battle on your hands. BC was the last difficult game wvu had, so I don't see me losing to anyone else but you. We'll see though.

Side note. When I won the toss for ot, I confused myself, thinking of NFL overtime not ncaa. So I kinda screwed myself there.

ND beats Iowa 24-14. It wasn't that close, as they scored their only TD with under 20 sec left in the game.

My QB was a turnover machine, throwing 4 INTs and fumbling on a QB sneak. The INTs were on my first four possessions. The fumble was on my first of the second half. I didn't slore until about 0:17 left in the first half.

Thankfully the defense grabbed 3 INTs of its own, and I scored enough to win. The lone TD for Iowa came as the ball ricocheted off of a defender or two, but was scooped up by the TE for a score.

Shag I can play sat morning 9am Est or sat night anytime. Sun is out.

I was cursing this game in my offline dynasty: I finally ran back a punt for a TD. First time ever. Only it was called back for clipping.

But, it gets stranger. Later in the same game, I had a 50 yard punt return from my 40 to the opponent's 10 yard line. Almost as soon as the ball left the punter's foot, I saw a massive block in the back by my team. They called clipping again. But the CPU declined the penalty, giving me the ball at the 10 instead of my own 25 or something like that. Or a repunt. Whatever the penalty would have been, it couldn't have been worse than my having the ball on the 10.

Strange.

I blocked a punt for the first time ever last night. Joe Brown ftw

SMU comes into the Big House and shocks #1 Michigan. SMU's QB was unstoppable. 30-44, 485 yards, 3 TDs. My defense was swiss cheese.

Ouch. Sorry, man.

Eh, it happens. I can still sneak into the National Title game with some luck.

BC comes out on top over Clemson 34-17. The game started off just like last week with my offense stuggling to do anything. Clemson took a 17-10 lead into the 4th quarter. In the 4th both my offense and defense which had been doing well all game finally came alive. I was able to score 24 points in the 4th with my RB really being my only offense rushed for over 200 yards. And wit Michigan going down today I should be abel to jump into the top 5 maybe top 3.

BC was already in the top 5. When they beat me 22-21 it shot them up to 5th. Just makes it all the sweeter when WVU takes them out in the Championship.

WVU beats NC state 50-34. The game was close until the 4th when NCSU just ran out of steam and the Mountaineers clinched it. I hope this win puts me in the top 25. It should...I was getting votes and I have beat 2 out of 3 top 25 teams this season.

Tennessee was 12th when I beat them
VT was 17th when I beat them
BC was 9th when I lost by one.

I was the underdog against NCSU, so I hope I get in the top 25.

Hoppa and Kush are all we have left. Nice, speedy week so far.

With the Tenn/Georgia game completed, Hoppa and I are the last players remaining for the week. 5 games within 24 hours of rolling, and only Human vs XBox games left. Nice

Nice work there, Commish. Thanks for the update.

Hey guys, looks like only Hoppa and Kush are left. This has been a quick week!

Didn't realize I was already ranked 5th thought I was still ranked 9th
